I think the conversation pit should come back. Will make everyone sit down and talk to each other more

Oh, how did I miss this video ! Wonderfully done and so enjoyable to look at and listen to. I remember all of these designs from when I was small except for the conversation pit. A ranch with shag carpet and an avacado kitchen was my dream home.

In 66~67 Dad custom built a large southern colonial.šŸ›Has a modern large open kitchen and in family room had a big fireplace with a built in gas grill something I’d never seen before @ that time and yes it did have the formal living room as well for entertaining with a wood paneled rec room in finished basementšŸŽ±šŸ“complete with a bar.šŸø

There are so many beautifully designed homes form the 50s and 60s in southern CA but the neighborhoods got so bad here that the houses are all run down and even if you wanted to fix one up you wouldnā€™t want to live in the neighborhood šŸ˜¢ itā€™s all a good indication that Americaā€™s economy has gone to hell

Very nice to see such wonderful designs. I was married in 1963, and remember the patterns of curtains being rather space-age design. The unconventional shaped end tables for the living room. It was nice to see and took me back to happy times. Thank you!

it’s really more of a phenomenon of the West and South West and South and North West of the USA……Mid America and the Northern Eastern Seaboard wasn’t really hit with new way designs…..you found some unique split level ranches and also some High Level Ranches or ranches but for the most part, the North East USA was still in the traditional Colonial or Cape Cod or traditional ranch style home….you don’t really find these mid Century ultra modern homes on the market in the North East or Mid East of the USA

Your videos are so professionally presented, I find myself paying as much attention to the way you do it as to the material you present. Well done!

Another style endemic to the 60ā€™s was a marriage of Mid Century Modern which initially originated from the creative mind of Frank Lloyd Wright with that of Art Decoā€™s immediate predecessor, Art tNouveau ā€“ otherwise known by where it first became popular i. e. Hollywood Regency. Also, two of the most popular colors for appliances in the early 60ā€™s was metallic dark brown led by medium light aqua blue.

This is great and helps me keep the look genuine and true to how it was done back then. Truly enlightened knowledge

My dad built our house in California in the late 60ā€™s, and it had a family room and dining room and a sunken formal living room which was used for only my parents guests or Xmas, it was a 3 bedroom, full office for my dad and 3 bathrooms. I sold it for 4000,000 in 2016.

Conversation pits were uncomfortable to sit in and created a hazardous hole in the middle of the room. Luckily, they disappeared to be replaced by good furniture that encouraged longer conversations…

Hmm, seriously? The 50s were offering a "generic, one size fits all approach to design?" Well, what the iffen, hell do you call the shit, bull, drone, crap, design concepts of today, then?! Honestly, I think it’s high time to criticize and DRASTICALLY, reevaluate where we’ve gone with interior design over the past 20 plus, years now, as we are able to with the designs of decades past, because I’m convinced that future generations will NOT, AT ALL, be impressed with the tasteless, souless, design, garbage of today. Not by a long shot. Out.

I grew up in an A-Frame in Massachusetts built in the 1960s, we stayed until the mid-1970s, I love that style!
