Love this information! Would love more like it🤗
This video was very motivating. Enjoyed the aspiration and inspiration. Your dark brown sofa behind you looks luxurious but calming. What is the name of that sofa? Thanks
Hi Julie, l like your explanations and ideas. I am yet to paint my house and I like the 2 colours that you used to name the next item to be discussed in this 21 rule video. They are both neutral colours ie very light beige and taupe. What’s your take? What colours of sofa should I buy that go well with this colours?
My beautiful 81-year-old mom taught me years ago to never put the sofa all the way against the wall. If. .! the sofa tends to get pushed back, use good old-fashioned rubber door stops under the back legs (the kind that are wedge shaped.)
thanks for the helpful video
New sub. I know what I’m binge-watching this weekend…😊
I love my mirrored headboard. Good thing I’m not superstitious.
I do love plants…
Your videos are amazing! You teach me so much. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Hi what is the cure for a king size bed that has a split two box springs under it?
This is awesome. I’ve been enjoying all your videos. Do you have any advice for a room with windows on multiple walls, door opens almost diagonally into the room and there is an ensuite bathroom.
Ai love you sweetie 😘❤
My favorite one-liner besides “you can do better” is, “You are better than basic, my friends!” (when you were talking about countertops) Dying laughing here. Love all your many words of wisdom!!!
Just… about the granite… I understand the video is about design but if you are about actually cooking in your kitchen, granite is the only choice to go. Every sinle drop of lemon juice or vinegar will stain your beautiful marble forever.
one of the wall colors was gorgeous, a soft pinky beige
We fell in love with Costa Esmeralda granite when we were designing our kitchen. Dark wood cabinets, a stone/glass tile backsplash w/blue/green/tan tiles, and walls painted Benjamin Moore Beach Glass. (Don’t ask me about the flooring, as I still hate it years later-not my choice.) We still love the kitchen eight years later.
What about for a sectional with chaise? Should it include the front legs of the chaise too?
nice
Another masterpiece! Thank You! I watched your living video tour sometime ago but not able to find now. Can you please link it? Thanks
Julie, what do you think about carpetting ? Good or not ?
I’m building for the first time and I’m getting overwhelember by all the choices. What are your tips for picking flooring? Do you start with flooring and move up from there, or pick things like cabinets and then the flooring?
Glad I found you Julie. Great content.
I live in a rental with horrible popcorn ceilings. Apparently there’s concrete underneath that. What do I do?
Your tips are gold thank you so so much Julie ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Julie. I’m struggling with the layout of a grand high ceiling open concept entrance that looks out to a pool/ hot tub. The conversation area is right in your line of site in front of the sliders and pool. Dining table to the right as you walk in and a baby grand piano to the left. Are their any special tips for choosing a furniture layout for this conversation space which also just happens to have a fireplace on the left wall.
( as you view from the front entrance). I feel like I’m fighting with the view. Hope this makes sense.
You are absolutely terrific .. so informative and helpful ! Thank you !
Thank you again for another great video!🎉 We paint questions for a tray ceiling in our 17’ x 14’ master bedroom, 10 ft ceilings (11 ft tray). Our tray has a large return vent which ended our hopes of wallpapering or adding other design options, etc. So we are considering the darkest tone of the midrange plum-brown color going on the walls (cream to taupe furniture) to paint on the ceiling, camouflaging the vents. Will that create a larger receded room effect? And should we continue that color on the general ceiling, the rise of the tray & the tray ceiling as you mentioned in another video? If we painted the mid-range tone on the moldings in the tray, would that break up the effect? Then should we also paint the doors & moldings the wall color if everything else is medium to dark? TIA, if you have time to answer all these questions!❤
This video was fantastic, it covered so many design aspects and references to your videos that can provide more detail. Like many of your followers I look forward to your videos, they so representative of a true and knowledgeable professional interior designer. I am building my favorites into my decorating library. Thanks again 💯
These rules are ok IF you aren’t trying to sell your home. Realtors want you to make the Decor general & less personal. They also want neutral paint colors. Personally, I can’t stand dark colors on a wall. If you are a person who is Claustrophobic, you want a room to be light & airy in feel. I just say that for what it’s worth. But even if you aren’t selling, you need to always have that in the back of your mind & ask yourself, “ If I were selling, how marketable is my house? “ also scale back on all the stuff you have hanging on the walls. That can still look cluttered. Better to just put things away out of sight or throw them away if you don’t need them. I’m 59 & discovered that as I get older, I downsize more & declutter more. The ceilings in all my rooms are white flat paint. The walls are the only thing we worry about color wise. We refresh the white on the ceilings as needed. Again painting can be exhausting & as you get older you don’t want to do any extra if you can avoid it.
I had a room painted dark and it drove me totally bonkers, it was so beautiful but not for me. Every tip and information you have was so intelligent and well thought out, thank you!
Design according to where you want to go🤑
This was so helpful!!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you Julie 😊 you inspire me to do better
Julie your Amazing Thank You for the tips❤️
You are so talented… I think you are in So California… how can someone request your services?
Very helpful, thank you.
You are simply the Best!
Your tip about keeping a list of measurements with you as well as a measuring tape is spot on. I found that I had to do this when we lived in Michigan and built a new house in Florida. I was amazed that all of my old and new furniture fit and was proportionally correct when we were finally moved in. I was over a thousand miles away and it all worked out! My husband even said, hmmm. It looks like you knew what you were doing! I have no formal design training but I kind of fell into the measurements mode out of necessity. I couldn’t see the house. It didn’t exist yet. I only had blueprints. Oh, and the area rug measurements worked perfectly. The rugs must be big enough for the room! This is a great summary of design rules! Thanks for your classic advice!
I love that I don’t have to break the bank to design with these tips. I can’t wait to use them through out my new house.
Aloha! Found your channel and using you as initial plunge into understanding the basics of ID. I enjoy the analytical and methodical approach. Thank you so much for the awesome videos. I understand this is a “rules” video but I que in on your “ absolute” statements. Rules are made to be broken and I would challenge you or any other designers to find exceptions to every “always” and “never” statements made. It would be a fun and “next level” ID video. Look forward to next week’s video!
Hi Julie, it’s Stephanie, you know the one with the 51m2 living room in the Netherlands remember lol, I tried putting big plants in pots for poisonous corner arrows because I was always SO cold at work. Immediately the space felt warmer and more ‘in balance’. It works! So nice!
I heard that the head of the bed on the north side on northern half of the earth is bad due to gravity reasons. Is that true? And I don’t really have walls on other sides to put the head end to. Only one wall next to the bathroom. I thought that was not so good either (same wall where you enter the room). Any advice? Thank you so much greetings Stephanie from Leeuwarden NL
Hi Julie, great tips and I love all your videos! The tip about painting the ceiling is great, I just did that in the home office we are updating and I love it. We are about to add some decorative crown moulding to the room and I’m questioning the color I should paint it. Is it best to have it match the painted ceiling? Thanks 🙂
“You could do better.” Tell hubby I love his perspective. 👑
Thanks
for if you cannot change the position of stove and sink, add a plant close by or a movable wooden drawer or something wood in between the space. Water favors wood, and wood favors fire. That’s how you solve the Feng shui problem.
The best on YouTube. INCREDIBLY helpful
Excellent advice!!! Love your videos!
Hello new subscriber. God bless your talent 🙏
Can you share where you purchased the wonderful large concrete or gray plant urns in this video?
I love the idea of painting all the walls dark to make it appear larger. I’ve seen rooms that are painted dark with the baseboards,
woodwork around windows, plus doors painted dark as well. When would you do this or not do this? I love your shows!!
2-3”away from wall = every cat toy will be stuck behind the Sofa on a daily basis
