#3 – Living in a Van for 8 Years with a minimum van build. | Amanda from Tidelinetoalpine

In todays Episode of Vanlife and Chill I talk with Amanda from tidelinealpine about her 8 years of experience living in a van. She shares her story of how she moved out of a place she was renting because she didn’t want to pay for someone elses mortgage and participate in land ownership so she was going to move into a tent in the winter but someone on her facebook gifted her a vintage camper which ended up having some bad engine problems. She went from the camper, to a tent, to a minivan, and for years now she has lived in a GMC cargo van. She finds that the time alone without distractions has helped her work through a lot of mental health issues and allows her time to be in nature, she is also able to work less and focus more time on things she enjoys because her living expenses are so low because of living in a van.

I am 5 minutes into this video and so far there is nothing that she hasn’t said that hasn’t resonated exactly with the same reason why I am living in my car I also have a dog going through the same type of thing mental problems I was hitting a head on collision so my memory is not that great and as far as my job I do delivery for an independent company it’s something that I can have my dog with me at the same time so yeah not even 5 minutes in and there isn’t a word that she hasn’t said that hasn’t resonated except I haven’t been gifted a van

This is America and to the people who say it’s the number one country on earth I say how can that be America ain’t a country it’s a corporation we have been told that all are lives and the reasons is because GDP will back up that statement however that happiest countries on earth are all Scandinavia countries and they have been for a long time and you know what they have that America doesn’t the smallest wealth gap
There’s also a reason America has the lowest percentage of its citizens of all developed nations in the world without passports so we the people don’t catch on

I agree with her, I shouldn’t work most of my life just to pay off the mortgage. But if you have kids, I guess that’s a different situation.

Wish you weren’t in such a hurry to get through the questions! This is an important concept for a podcast but your guests probably don’t feel very heard with you immediately bouncing to the next thing, especially towards the end of the episode! Not trying to hate, just an observation โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ™Œ nobody’s business where your money comes from! Okay oh my gosh that’s 100%. She said I would go outside and get to moving around to get warm yes that’s 100% And it is harder when you already have the heat to go out and be out in the cold wow yep I kind of realized like I’d rather it just be that way I I’d rather it be easier for me to be able to get up and get out in the cold then harder for me to get up and get out in the cold so once I do progress actually into a van I don’t think I’m going to even worry about a heater just insulate my van really well and be all right with that

I don’t understand why she said no options when her parents have a house

  10. Ak Hamp on October 31, 2022 at 7:51 am

I would have to hear how she was able to live in a tent when not having a van again for a while.
How does that work ..living in a tent..no way to get anywhere , probably no job ..no shower…was in winter or warmer whether etc.
Then getting into another van.. how did that happen from living a tent?
Had to be more to it
That’s what I would like to know.
Did her parents help her out?.
Just wonder how that transition worked. Cause I can’t imagine what you would do.
Thank goodness I have never been in that kind of situation.
Just saying. ..guess some kind of opportunity happened that you got back on your feet or you were helped by parents or what?
I have thought of trying vandwelling only cause it seems freeing and sometimes like most paying so much living in a home.
But I am not still convinced I would be the vandwellers type person. I love the idea of traveling but like some have said there are challenges and pros + cons to all things .
But never know ….I may try it one day in the near future.
Probably nothing to lose to try it a month or two first just to see if it is for me. I can live simply…that’s not an issue. But the weather bothers me some ..with it being so in unpredictable more + more
as time goes on. But who knows ….

    Yay..Amanda !!@%
Thank for being so open and honest about your mental health.
I was going to ask you on your chanell about living the way you do with mental health issues… I want to believe that it will do me good because I am starting to believe that living in town and paying rent and trying to live a "normal" life for s9 long ( I am almost 50) is not good for me and even bringing me down more and more …

I wholeheartadly agree with Amandas views on housing should not be a commodity. what is happening in the rental and housing in this country is getting out of control. these videos are inspiring . owning a vehical is a major expence never mind an apt living a simpler life less worrys expences. were being enslaved by housing transportation communication. time to quit this insanity. hats off to all these folks.

  29. Tasha Mitchell on October 31, 2022 at 8:19 am

That’s crazy the way she ended up in the van is kind of the same way I ended up in my car I was homeless and it was winter so I started as well in the winter and now that it’s summer I’m like okay you know it’s summer my friends and family are like oh my gosh this is record breaking Heat and you have no air conditioner and I’m like hey I’m good it’s all good yo it’s all good I was like born and raised for this I’ve spent so much time outside but I never cared for the AC whenever I was in the house I was always cold and wanted to turn off the AC so even though it’s 103 or 106ยฐ outside here in Texas I’m not freaking out about it I’m not having a hard time with it I was constantly outside mowing yards as a child here in Texas and so it’s no big deal for me my family even though they were there and they know that I was always outside they still just don’t get it

Thank you for sharing your life. It’s great that you have a van and could paint it. Some things take time and you will increase more all the time. It’s wonderful that you have a van because many don’t have that. I would encourage you to envision what you desire and keep seeing that, and you will attract it. I’ve created great things in that way. PS. I love your dog and the loving way you are with him. It’s a beautiful thing. Stay strong and you will get where you want to be! I’m sending love.
