Why didn’t you just use 2 by 6 to hold rather small ones with pocket holes

  2. David Fratzke on November 12, 2022 at 8:36 am

Wow. That’s a lot of hand movement 😅

    Gluing end grain is pointless

I built my faux mantle beam using the advanced method. A good tip in getting the Mitre’d corners to look like a natural solid beam is to use a screw driver to run the rounded shaft on the corner, which rubs the joint together and rounds it at the same time. looks like a solid beam.

Would love to see a weight test on each method!

Good god. Holy hand movements. hard pass.

I really liked at the end when you said "Go for it, learn something, take something, be frustrated and take it to the next project." Rebuilding everything in the house myself has been extremely frustrating because there are so many small oversights and subsequent trips back and forth to the store to make sure it’s done right, it’s overwhelming. I have spent more time in the store trying to find things (with employees who don’t really know where or what things are) wandering aisles than I have actually building or replacing things. It all comes together in the end, but it has been frustration level 9000 after seeing people build the most beautiful intricate things online without smashing/pinching/cutting their hands, 10 trips to the store for one project and more swearing than when I hang out with the military boys with no wives present.

  9. Adrian L on November 12, 2022 at 8:43 am

what would be the estimated weight capacity of these varying shelves?

  10. NewEra on November 12, 2022 at 8:45 am

$37 on wood, thousands of dollars on tools .

  11. Garri R on November 12, 2022 at 8:49 am

There’s a level after the "pro" one which is the mount and skeketon is fully metal.

I’m looking to do this but using 2 planges (1 wall 1 shelf board)and 1 90° elbow. How would you recommend bracing the back part of the shelf? Looking to be used for a dry bar area.

  16. Dustin Stumbo on November 12, 2022 at 8:53 am

    Beginners 0:30
    Intermediate 5:55
    Advanced 10:00

Very nicely done…but you talk waaaay too fast when referring to critical info…at least for beginners. WHAT os the piece of metal called when making the beginner shelf? (Probably easy fot you..bu believe me.. when I go to the home store, I have to know first..which department..is that thing in plumbing?….and then exactly what it’s called.) Maybe you could make some "dummy" cards to flash now and then, when there’s really important info. Thanks, donna

I was thinking, could you leave a 1/16 or 1 veneer of wood on each 45 degree rip, or would it tear?

Personally, my thinking is when you can see the bracket, it’s not a "floating" shelf. I liked the advance shelf idea a lot. Also, tip: when you’re cutting repeated lengths like those 5" pieces, clamp a stop block on the end of your chop saw, then slide up to it and cut and they will all be precisely the same length and it’s super fast! Keep up the good work!

Wow! Your garage workshop is dreamy! It’s so organized and it’s even painted!

  32. Wendy Torkelson on November 12, 2022 at 9:12 am

"learn something, take something, be frustrated…" 😂 Love your videos. Thanks for another good one.

  33. Ahmad T on November 12, 2022 at 9:13 am

What is the thickness of the pro shelf?

  34. Paul McCullough on November 12, 2022 at 9:14 am

the first one isnt really a floating shelf. its not a floating shelf if you can clearly see brackets holding it up. it would have made it more of a beginners "floating" shelf if you drilled the piece of lumber and inserted the metal pipes into the back of it.

Can someone lmk if you can mount melamine cabinets on plywood? I’m installing a section of uppers this weekend and the wall has sheetrock AND plywood. So I’m a bit worried on the layers I need to go through to hit the stud, my backing is 3/4 the sheetrock 5/8 and the plywood 1/2 I think. Anyone have any suggestions? I usually use 3 inch screws when I install uppers to attach them to the stud. Please any help or ideas will definatly be appreciated!! TIA

  36. Brent Montgomery on November 12, 2022 at 9:15 am

Did you pre drill holes for the intermediate shelf when installing on the wall?

  37. Patrick Page on November 12, 2022 at 9:15 am

I get wanting to make money on your videos but 3 double unskippable adds before you even finish the first shelf if not for the excessive adds I would have subscribed

  38. Marty Shore on November 12, 2022 at 9:18 am

If you wanted to have a shelf extend off the wall further, how far would this framing allow me to cantilever from the wall off your ledger board?

  39. El Toro Estetico escareno on November 12, 2022 at 9:19 am

Those are nice but I like the 2 first ones, I would avoid the 3rd one just because it’s time consuming
