$30 Charcuterie Board vs $130 Charcuterie Board | But Cheaper

$30 Charcuterie Board vs $130 Charcuterie Board | But Cheaper

Charcuterie boards have a tendency to be overly expensive. I’m talking about dropping between $100-$300 on a single board! And yeah, I understand the quality of food you’re buying is worth it… but we can definitely make some great choices for cheaper that ultimately taste and look the same.

So … It’s only 30 worth of materials, not 30 in total. That’s deceiving. Pp will think you can buy a nice one for 30 or even 130. Not if you want it to last more than 1 year max. Oh … you mean the food…lol.

  20. Y Y on August 24, 2022 at 2:04 am

It might be blasphemous to some, but you could turn the cream cheese into an avocado dip or French onion dip. On our boards we usually mix it up with expensive and cheaper cheeses, quince paste, dried apricots and some dips with crackers that suit (hummus usually features on it). We also throw antipasto veges (eggplants, sun dried tomatoes, marinated artichokes and peppers) on there.

"Mom can we buy charcuterie?" Mom : "No, we already have charcuterie at home" (proceed to serve boiled onions and baloney.)

  33. sista love on August 24, 2022 at 2:19 am

Import cheese in Canada has the highest tariffs a nice triple cream Brie from France about 300 grams will set you back $17. Let’s not talk about the other ones. A good charcuterie heavy on cheese will set you back about $200.

  34. Batje Vier on August 24, 2022 at 2:20 am

I wouldn’t really call this a charcuterie since that normally only consists of meats (although the term is used rather loosely lately) i’d prefer the italian word antipasto to describe these platters.
The most important part of an antipasto is to adjust it to your guests. In my personal experience meats and cheeses should be sparingly used. Luxury fruits (Dried and fresh), veggies, olives, Nuts, bread and toast should be the vast majority of an antipasto.
Aim for artisanal/higher quality meat and cheeses that have a distinctive taste, but still appeal to the vast majority of your guests. You don’t want your guests to cram themselves with fatty meats and cheese, you want a light balanced meal (especially when it’s before or after dinner)

I’m as a European amazed how expensive fruits, cheese and aged meats are in the US!

  38. frugal Mum on August 24, 2022 at 2:25 am

    Cream cheese ideas:

Roll up assorted combinations separately with choice of herbs, spices, etc to increase flavour variety at minimum extra cost.

Buy gourmet sausages (one of each) from a decent butcher, cook, cool, thin slice.

Add wild foraged berries, greens, edible flowers etc

    Make your own watercrackers.

Use fancy stale clearance breads to make tiny toasties.

  39. Gail Valdez on August 24, 2022 at 2:27 am

I hate blue cheese too, it’s so gross 🤢

  40. Phoebus Apollo on August 24, 2022 at 2:27 am

I could never eat from a charcuterie board with friends or guests, I’d need the whole board to be satisfied. And I don’t think it’s good etiquette to munch away while hoarding a board to yourself while your guests are hungry.

  41. Susan Sarver on August 24, 2022 at 2:28 am

  43. Arkylie on August 24, 2022 at 2:28 am

Gives me some ideas for where to go cheap and where to kick it up a notch! Take it easy on the cheeses, try for a nicer apple (Granny Smith? please — try Pink Lady, Rockit, Honeycrisp, or my current favorite, Cosmic Crisp), go good with the nuts (pistachios and cashews for me), and try something cheap but fancy with the cream cheese. I’d try stirring cream cheese into salsa, and I do like your idea about the baguette bites ^_^ I could see adding them alongside some Wheat Thins and Chicken in a Biscuit or even just basic Ritz.

  44. Mike Rose 🌹 on August 24, 2022 at 2:29 am
