$60K L.A. Backyard Transformation By A Pro Designer | Replace This Space | Architectural Digest

Designer Erick Garcia heads to Los Angeles for a $60,000 dream backyard renovation in the first episode of Replace This Space. Julie Sariñana, known best for her popular fashion and lifestyle account Sincerely Jules, sensed the backyard of her Spanish-style home in Los Angeles had the potential to better suit her aesthetic (and entertain her large family!) That’s when Erick, in partnership with CB2, stepped up to design and deliver a backyard that checked all of her boxes.

kill your lawn. replace with natives that have evolved with the ecosystem and support pollinators. monoculture lawns are passée. also, poor gophers. i hope they have reworked their tunnels so they don’t bump their heads.

The lack of chairs 🪑 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  3. Ka Sia on August 11, 2022 at 4:10 am

    MESS…

  4. Yasmin Quezada on August 11, 2022 at 4:10 am

    Amazing!❤️

I listen to the entire thing to find out if he was ever going to end a sentence either the same pitch or lower than where he started it. Twice it happened. In every other situation, his voice goes up by an interval of at least a fifth. Anyone else notice?

  6. Make Money Online on August 11, 2022 at 4:14 am

    But it’s not worth $60K 😂😂

  7. Jack FnTwist on August 11, 2022 at 4:14 am

His accent is so annoying. Sounds like he’s asking questIONS? But it’s a nice job.

  8. Heather Evans on August 11, 2022 at 4:15 am

Thank you for removing the grass! Everything is beautiful. I hope more are inspired to get rid of their grass.

  9. Monster Universe on August 11, 2022 at 4:15 am

I like the before better, the after looks cheap and too busy that you can’t even appreciate the Spanish architecture of the house as those awnings overwhelm the house. The water feature looks cheap like it was just sloppily placed with not much thought, and that black pipe in it is a prominent eyesore 😖 all that furniture on the dirt? Two thumbs down. The only good thing is that the owner will save money in water usage after having spent $60,000??? For that? It’s very environmentally friendly though, so that’s a big plus 👍

His continuous upwards inflection gives me a headache.

    Clean up those palms, GSUS

  13. Pasha Goldshtein on August 11, 2022 at 4:22 am

    Love Erics work

  14. Lynn Grillo on August 11, 2022 at 4:23 am

The designer has an odd speech pattern where his voice goes up at the end of every sentence so that everything he says sounds like a question. Am I the only one that noticed? The after looks really nice. Not my style, but I can appreciate it all the same.

  15. Cory_aqua on August 11, 2022 at 4:23 am

Nice renovation, hope that backyard table edge is sanded down

  16. Michael Islas on August 11, 2022 at 4:25 am

$60k for the trashest, cheap chairs??? Some pots and plants? Terrible.

  17. Karina P. on August 11, 2022 at 4:28 am

I’d HOPE you’d like things under 3K-4K Kelvin!

  18. Topp Catt on August 11, 2022 at 4:28 am

    I liked it before.

  19. Suskelley Kelley on August 11, 2022 at 4:29 am

Very nice. But wouldn’t it be easier not to have to carry the food so far

  20. James Glickman on August 11, 2022 at 4:30 am

    They were really vibing!

  21. Andy S on August 11, 2022 at 4:30 am

The before was much better, more natural and lovely. The after is like so bland and just like a house, not natural at all!!!

  22. Ernesto Mondragon Romero on August 11, 2022 at 4:31 am

It is pretty nice but it looks like it needs more chairs 🪑

  23. Amnesi Antoinette on August 11, 2022 at 4:34 am

love this..no maintainace yard with clearly defined uses amd thoughtful use of space…

  24. Smart Turf on August 11, 2022 at 4:37 am

  25. Camel Jockey on August 11, 2022 at 4:40 am

the only thing i would change is to have a strip of greenery right in the middle overflown with bushes and grasses and possible a very tiny pond

  26. Paul J. Wells on August 11, 2022 at 4:41 am

    Great video.
Would like to have seen to construction portion, a "how-to".

    Great channel. Thanks

    How is the squirrel???

  28. Justa Youtuber on August 11, 2022 at 4:44 am

    $60K for THAT?

  29. கொரில்லா on August 11, 2022 at 4:45 am

I liked it better with the grass. And if they couldn’t have grass because of the drought they could have some sort of covering with succulents in some parts. When it’s hot that decomposed granite it’s going to heat. So instead of walking barefoot on the fresh grass you end up with a heated surface.

Is it a Hispanic thing to want to pave every bit of grass on a lot? Where I live, people take beautiful lawns and turn them into cement – right to the lot lines. Instead of mowing lawn, they get out the leaf blowers all weekend long….

  32. Jas on August 11, 2022 at 4:49 am

Beautiful work Eric! Now come transform my little apartment porch 😝

  33. Elsie H Martinez on August 11, 2022 at 4:50 am

    No koi pond ☹️

  34. Art & Life on August 11, 2022 at 4:50 am

Am i the only one who loved the first garden?

  35. Vincent Chang on August 11, 2022 at 4:52 am

I love the backyard, but I’m always curious what people should be doing with all the cushions and pillows when not in use.

  36. mike Tackabery on August 11, 2022 at 4:53 am

Disappointed. Not much in the way of plants, and way too many are silver/gray. The lawn was far too big and shapeless, but it helped give freshness to the space and now there’s an overall dustiness. Even desert landscapes can look full and lush, but this never will. The bougainvillea will never cover the wall if it stays in that little pot. He should have suggested a sandy/terra-cotta-y paint for the house to soften the glare and be a little truer to the style…

  37. Z M on August 11, 2022 at 4:53 am

Am I the only one but initially I thought the old garden was the make over ..it was stunning!

  38. Renata Castano on August 11, 2022 at 4:54 am

  42. M Johnson on August 11, 2022 at 5:00 am

    It looks restulf

  43. e z r a on August 11, 2022 at 5:00 am

This is gorgeous, he’s a genius! But why call it a $60,000 transformation, when in the video details it says items were donated? So is this an ad?

  44. Zelda Harris on August 11, 2022 at 5:01 am

Just HIDEOUS – I can’t believe some one would take away and all that nice cool greenery and replace it with paving. It was SO much nicer before. If anyone created this contrived mess in my yard I would sue them. Tacky, tacky and….. tacky.

  45. Gabriella DeSantis on August 11, 2022 at 5:02 am

    killing gophers is not funny

  46. Ninjachickenfingers on August 11, 2022 at 5:03 am
