ABOUT MAKING CAMPFIRES
Due to years of drought and massive wildfires, lighting campfires during hiking season in the Sierra Nevada is no longer recommended. If you do make a campfire, be sure to check all current burn bans and follow all fire regulations as per the land management and permitting agency for your trip area. In addition to your backcountry permit, you must obtain a separate California fire permit in the Sierra. Fire sites near brush, trees, pine duff and other flammable materials are no longer safe. Choose bare rock if possible. Other fire safety methods for clearing a site include cleaning the fire site down to bare dirt, but this counterindicates Leave No Trace principles of minimal impact, which campers should follow at all times in the backcountry. Don’t cut wood for fires, choose pre-impacted tent sites, take care not to damage vegetation, pack absolutely all trash, consumables and TP out with you. If you have a legal campfire, make absolutely certain no sparks escape to spread the fire, and put out the fire entirely after you are done with it, using the drown-stir-feel method described in the CA Fire Permit safety test. Don’t be the reason for the next giant burn in the Sierra. Take only photos, leave only footprints.

Just beautiful. The hiking, the views, the editing, the music, the silence. Nature as it should be. Pure, simplistic and soul-stirring. Well done! Well done!

Hello Harmen, I congratulate you for your excellent videos on excursions. I like them a lot because you manage to convey the beauty of the (impressive) landscapes, unlike others who record videos where they spend most of their time talking nonsense and making the audience fall asleep bored in front of the screen. Keep it up. Greetings from Caracas. Sigue asi. Saludos desde Caracas.

Hi Harmen, I live up here in the Pacific Northwest so I’m familiar with the great forest trails available for hikers. I love your videos. They’re great places for hiking adventures. One thing I’m curious about though (since I am from Washington State)….have you had any strange encounters in your travels? Heard anything unusual out there in the Sierra’s? 👣👣

  16. Susie Arviso on April 1, 2023 at 10:53 am

Why do these people keep taking chances by hiking alone. Its idiotic. And even after all the hikers that have died, it would make sense to have others with them.

  17. Jim Cooper on April 1, 2023 at 10:55 am

I think you would triple your views if you talked a little more

Is it ever scary to camp alone in the backwoods like that? I’ve got a lot of parks, but that seems desolate. A lot of people go missing their each year. Probably cartels and stuff.

  37. MAVICSHOW on April 1, 2023 at 11:23 am

I drive across the country from costal Oregon to Georgia earlier to run away from myself and an ex. I tried to stop at as many national parks and talk to as many people as I could. You have inspired to me to not only continue my solo travel adventure, but to hone my creativity and document my journey. You are truly living the dream, my man
