You have the best video I’ve seen and I’ve been looking for this for ages!!!! I’ll follow ya for ever! 😂
Very useful information 😊
😂😂😂😂
I think the ‘Gap Above the Cabinets’ "design mistake" is a personal choice the same as open shelving (which I personally think is a design mistake) is for some. I like to display my teapot collection where they can be seen but are out of the way. "But, they’re going to collect dust up there!" So what? Don’t climb up onto my counters and you won’t swoon from the shock of it all.
Will definitely look into roborock.
Very useful tips , thx
just to add: a single brush robot cleaner is a BIG mistake!
Sliding selves in cabinets fixes #2.
Try raising your range hood higher if possible
Following your tips, we ordered pendant lights for my mum’s kitchen. Thanks!
I have a kitchen with only drawers on the lower side and I HATE it! I have no place to store my pots and pans; even the huge drawers on the bottom don’t have room for more than 2 pots and I would always recommend to have at least one low cabinetry for pots. Of course, if you have room for an extra cupboard or another place to store your pots, you’re fine, but I only have the kitchen cabinetry, no extra space for storage. I have use for ONE set of drawers on the lower side, but I’m completely clueless what to store in the others. In former kitchens, I had low cabinetry instead of drawers and LOVED it! Not a design mistake at all, but pure matter of taste 🙂
Also, I’ve seen several people loving their red kitchen for many years! But it’s a matte darker red nuance, not bright shiny red.
Thank you 😊. There was definitely a couple of things I hadn’t thought about in this video especially the fridge sticking out
Be careful of counter depth fridges – you DO lose a good amount of interior space…can you defrost a turkey or store large trays for entertaining? ; weird new trend for fridges is thin and TALL…watch out on the height of your space…and rollers on the bottom add inches to the overall height of the fridge; if you can afford them – invest in after-market roll-out shelves for lower cabinets…
Hello Actually nice content really much appreciated, i have open kitchen I would like to close it but with nice design to keep the cabinet visible
GET A LIFE!
I was wondering why you’re making this video and not in the kitchen cooking, where you belong.
You missed the biggest kitchen sin: a sink in the corner. With cupboards above! Every time I walk in my kitchen it annoys me to think it was designed by someone who never spent any time in one
I have a small u shaped kitchen. How would you fix that?
Plus I don’t have a pantry, low cabinets that suck.
Love the effect on holy trinity kitchen – lol
The most important point to keep in mind is the toe kick under the sink or any work place in the kitchen
counter depth fridge is the worst.
I really like the lamp behind you. 😍
Where is it from?
Counter depth fridges are useless unless you live alone
Rollout trays. I mean, come on, self-called "designer." This is basics.
I bought a rug this morning, for my dining table area. I actually found it 3 weeks ago and it was on a 48 hour clearance sale. When I checked again this morning the sale still had 22 hours to go. Whew, that was close.

I have lower cabinets and just put them on glides. There is no lost of usable space.
After scrolling through the comments a bit, I didn’t see anyone commenting on one of the tips you gave about the fridge, so I will. The guy building my mom’s kitchen suggested taking a few inches away from the laundry room to recess the fridge. It was a great idea.
On the fridge sticking out, we;re going to have someone recess the fridge by cutting out/moving the wall behind the fridge (3-car garage on other side of the wall).
Practical and insightful advice.
I agree with your thoughts on the range hood.
My last kitchen remodel was built in the 60s. There was only one electrical outlet.
Excellent technique on that bananna
About the triangle, a brand new home we purchased was designed with a long island down the middle of what was a very large galley kitchen. The stove, fridge, and sink were perfectly placed for ease of use, however the island cut into the triangle pattern and we had to walk in a U pattern around the island constantly. I wanted to saw off the last 24 inches to fix that problem all the time. It was frustrating. We eventually moved to a fixer and I had the chance to design my own kitchen. The center island is out of the triangle and I am thrilled.
Just a thought about drawers. They are the best and I was fortunate enough to decide on IKEA cabinetry as I was doing the reno work. I planned the layout and installed the shells of the bottom cabinets and purchased drawers or doors depending on cabinet use over time. As we lived in it, we moved the drawers around, bought thinner ones, added some where we didn’t have them, etc. Couldn’t be happier. I have one more door to switch out for two drawers. That will happen soon. I am so glad I didn’t have to plan everything first and just live with it. HIGHLY recommend IKEA kitchens. PLUS, you can switch out the fronts of cabinets to another style if you want. Solves the bold color problem.
Doesn’t feel like you were close to “homeless” if you had the means to buy a house. Please get some perspective.
Well get a fridge to fit in althou it just seems first world problem. Those bendy drawer fronts look like a pain in the a*se.
Lot of people in this wprld would be happy just to have a kitchen.😒
The biggest kitchen mistakes are islands and that fugly gray color
We got a roborock over black Friday and we love it!!!
The counter depth fridge thing is only for those who can afford to build their house around their fridge. Sorry but I’m not compromising fridge space to allow for aesthetics.
get a rangehood that folds in and you pull it out when you want it out and then push in when you dont use it. rangehoods are not very good looking in my eyes.
My refrigerator sticks out, I have a space above my cabenets. But I did go with the taller cabenets when I built my house. I have electrical out lets up there and rope lighting up there. I have lots of lighting in my kitchen. recessed lights, pendant lights over the island, light over the sink, under cabinet lighting and above cabinet lighting. I have the microwave over the stove which is also a mistake they say. I just didn’t want it on the counter. I couldn’t afford the wall cabinet one at the time.
great video! I’m working on my 2nd kitchen remodel in 20 years. BTW, need that banana recipe 😋
Thank you SO much for these insights! We’ve literally watched dozens of kitchen design videos and none of them mention many of these extremely important details. Typically I measure height and depth but often forget the depth! I can just imagine forgetting to visualize how a protruding fridge would look. This is huge! Thank you again!
Love your video. I’m a designer from Singapore and have practice and implement many of the things you mentioned for years. Glad to have found someone with many similar design philosophy as me and I look forward to learning more from you .
I’ve been designing and building for 14 years and loving all the aspects.
Wow
Builders and “designers” are at fault for ALL of these errors, namely the stick out fridge! Don’t these bozos own a tape measure?
Before I moved into my rental home, I realized with dismay that there was NO range hood or fan or any other method of ventilating smoke & cooking/washing steam from the kitchen. Uh-oh! I asked my landlord-to-be about this issue and he agreed to put an exhaust fan up in the apex of the Cathedral ceiling about the stove. What a nightmare cooking in an open-plan kitchen would be without it.
Out of all the kitchen videos I’ve been watching, this one is the best! You stressed so many important design errors. We are going to reno, this year and we need a new fridge anyway. I neverr knew about counter depth refrigerators. Thank you so much! Subscribing!
This video was very informative! Loved it.
Unless you were part of kitchen build, you will not get counter in line with refrigerator as you want to have the larger refrigerator. So, it sticks out. No problem. I have functionally and storage required which is more important.
I considered the counter depth refrigerator as I bought non-custom cabinets. However, after weighing the pros and cons of expense and lack of fridge space, I opted for the standard size refrigerator knowing full well it would not be as aesthetically pleasing as a counter depth. The only pro to my decision is that the sides of my refrigerator is gray; almost the same gray as my cabinets which allows the oversized fridge to be less noticeable.
