9 DECORATING MISTAKES THAT COULD MAKE YOU DEPRESSED OR ANXIOUS

9 DECORATING MISTAKES THAT COULD MAKE YOU DEPRESSED OR ANXIOUS

Hey hello! Maybe it’s a sign of these strange times, but I’ve had many requests for tips on how to alleviate anxiety and depression in the home, and questions about whether it’s possible to improve your mood by doing certain things in your house.

The answer is YES, there are so many things you can do to feel better in your home!! They are all very easy, so don’t worry, you won’t feel overwhelmed.

Make sure you’re not making any of these mistakes in your decor and interior design so that you can feel your absolute best in your home.

I recommend this book: https://amzn.to/3nwCEDA

It’s a gem for all things relating to environmental psychology – a topic I am super interested in – and it’s very easy to understand. I got a lot of value out of it and periodically go back and read it.

There were so many other things that I would have loved to touch on, like using scents and music, but that will have to be a video for another day!

Thanks as always for watching and please remember to leave any of your own decorating tips that you may have that helped you when feeling anxious or depressed.

All this is pretty much what I’ve been doing the last couple years in thinking about what would be less depressing of a space I feel so validated lol

Great ideas! Did not like the negative portrayal of introverted personalities, however. Extrovert was happy, cute and upbeat, whereas introvert appeared to be ashamed, hiding, fearful. As an introvert, I was upset by the inaccurate portrayal — we are not any of those things.

Ok, totally agree, and as an architect I direct people this way when designing so they get the feeling they want.
…but also… your 2nd picture is from a FRANK LOYD WRIGHT house!!!

I disagree — I hate seeing plastic greenery in homes – I love seeing the real thing but you yes you have more upkeep.

I love 💕💕💕🌹💕💕💕 and your design advise ! Depression is a real health scare n issue in the World Post COVID years, so I decided to plant aloe vera plants in pots and their dark green color is so calming every day, try Planting Aloe vera plants they withstand all seasons for sure! I also planted tomatoes! Plants are good friends to us ! Then I use more lime green and blue in the choices of color utensils in our kitchen n carpet. Turquoise blue carpeting is so calming and makes our home happier !I put pictures of my family that we celebrated on our living room walls, that brings good memories daily ! And I use wooden stools and red Masai blanket.

thats not true, the subconscious can tell a difference. it is the INTENTION that changes everything, not the price. if a picture is made with great intention it will help you in a great way.

Love your videos, I watch a lot of your videos and a lot of Interior Design content as i find it so beautiful and interesting. I cant help but leave the videos feeling depressed though as I’m a single Disabled person hat lives alone in public housing as I am on a disability pension and have very little money. So I’m always left wondering after such content, how the hell could I possibly make my tiny home look anywhere even close to as lovely or trendy as the content in these type of videos. Can’t help but feel hopeless that my very obviously low income flat is doomed to always look crappy no matter how much thrifting i do.

Grey in a north facing room can be quite soothing and delightful. Check out the problem with painting north facing rooms.

I agree with all of these except for curves. I absolutely hate curves. For me, anything that has a curve of any sort is an automatic hell no from me. Everything else I agree with though, especially the part about nature, paintings and colours

Yes.. I decided to remove all dark colors in my home and do white/shabby chic… But I do like the Victorian colors and look not too sure what to do but thank you for this

Fantastic video! Wish I had seen this 15 years ago. When I was a kid we moved house and my mother asked me what color I wanted my walls to be. I said blue since that was my favorite color but I’ve come to realize that that was a huge mistake. After several moves in the past 6 years I finally moved into a flat that will be more permanent stay. This time I thought really hard about how I wanted it to look, what kind of colors. I didn’t think about what my favorite colors are but what would help me battle depression and anxiety. What would make me feel happy and at peace. And intuitively I chose to paint one of my walls a fresh, light green (the rest are white), and to have white, wooden and yellow furniture. And omg, what a difference it makes to my mood! I can only recommend it to everyone to be very mindful of how they decorate their space. Now I just need to add some plants and it’ll be perfect. 🙂

I never felt anxiety in my life until I decided to hang a bunch of 17th century gargoyles on my walls and added a ouija board to the coffee table. What a gaffe that was.

That was very very kind of you to ask people to share this tips with other people. because I myself have depression at 74 I have a small YouTube channel and my room is all wood paneling!l my heavens it’s so depressing I have a green and orange painting that I love to look at because you’re right Orange is very cheerful and this was a wonderful video that you put up the way things can help people little things that we need in life to help us snap out of some tiring depression. God bless thank you so much! Xoxo Rose 🌹

You are contradictory. In one hand you talk about artificial plants but then talk about plastic as cause of anxiety. It makes no sense. Plants should be natural

I suffer with schizophrenia and PTSD. I used to have a store container of liquid soap on my kitchen sink. I replaced it with one with a Mason Jar pump and added a dollar store print of a Van Gogh to the wall. Instant cure.

Do not totally clear out all your old furniture to make way for your new trendier pieces but retain some old quality items nicely placed to compliment your new home layout. This can be exciting and retain your connection with valued sentimental pieces.
