If Manchins name is on it its corrupt. He is a greedy fossil fuel puppet piece of sh_t. I am sure this bill in small print states that all BLM land can be strip mined or fracked.

When youtubers were banned from filming while in our national parks, I was blown away. As a teacher I would both take students on fieldtrips to our parks and invite representatives from our parks to speak in my classroom. The message was always the same, "Help us get the word out about our wonderful parks. They are here for you to enjoy, but we need you help. Tell your friends about the wonderful times you have when you go camping in our parks. Our marketing budget is extremely small, so you can be our ambassadors." I heard that many times over decades as an educator. Then I saw youtubes of couples traveling in their van, and who stopped to camp in a park and were filming and were issued a fine for hundreds of dollars. What? It makes absolutely no sense. The vast majority of vloggers make little to no money for the videos they create. Those who do have huge subscriber bases are the ones that the park service should be reaching out to. How much would it cost the park service to create a video and market it to 100,000 people? Yet if someone does it for free they get a ticket and have to pay hundreds of dollars in fines. Makes no sense.

This bit us on healthcare. Wife and I were at Yellowstone, she got an infection in a cut on her leg. We had to go to the Mammoth Clinic for assistance. Well, they didn’t take our insurance. If I remember correctly, they only took Cigna and we had United Healthcare. (at the time, circa 2016) So, that meant that we had to pay in full for our visit. Which was to have them look at the wound, provide a new dressing and give an antibiotic perscription. It cost something like $380 all said and done. Then, insult to injury, we used our FSA to pay for it. They declined it; because, the FSA can’t be used for a "tourist visit" to a National Park.

Long story short, they did end up covering the cost of the care; but, it was big hassle. Why couldn’t we use the insurance we carried in the first place? Why was it legal to limit coverage in a place where there are no other options for medical attention without driving another hour to outside the park.

As a counter example, 2 years earlier, while traveling Europe the wife and I both got sinus infections. By the time we got to Ireland we had enough. We went to a doctor’s office and were made aware we’d have to pay cash; because, we weren’t covered under their national health services. Makes sense. Agreed to the terms; because, at this point we just wanted to feel better no matter the cost. Got prescribed anitobiotics and had them filled. So, two doctors visits and prescriptions later. It cost us about $86 total. It was something like 67 euros.

That really put into perspective how predatory our healthcare system is.

They should make it easier for states to install 18 Wheeler pullovers and overnight parking only and full rest stops alongside highways that are traversing through public land. There is a shortage of available overnight parking for travelers.

Close and reclaim all trails roads inside parks . Provide parking outside parks.
Most won’t go they might have to walk.

  9. George Moncure on April 11, 2023 at 11:37 am

    No shooting ranges. How stupid.

  10. Randall Thomas on April 11, 2023 at 11:38 am

After reading a few of the comments, most folks don’t have a very good idea of how Public Lands Management works. Wi-Fi in campgrounds. Folks things are remote, there isn’t cell service or even land line telephone available to much of the public lands, particularly when you get out west. As to opening earlier, and closing later. Most are managed for weather. You don’t want people getting snowed in, and having to rescue them. You don’t want the water system, you don’t have money to repair, damaged by freezing. Most of the Agencies do what they do for very practical reasons of economics, or public and worker safety.

As to filming, the key part is unobtrusively. The land belongs to all of us, and we don’t need some primadonna with a camera, ruining the ambience of the environment, running around with twenty people, reflectors, shades, and lights.

  11. Review-Crunch on April 11, 2023 at 11:38 am

This feels like a catch 22. Unfortunately if you put lots of internet access to parks then there will be more people on the phone and less paying attention. In terms of an emergency and safety it is a plus. Handing the reigns over to a private company will definitely drive cost through the roof. The great thing about these parks is they stay natural. As soon as you put a private company in place you will get the type of clientele that those leisure companies attract. I can only imagine what a Marriot run park would look like smh.

  12. Frontier Living on April 11, 2023 at 11:39 am

I work at campgrounds a lot goes into running a campground guests are very messy and destructive and have endless knocks at the door and questions. If you want to camp for free you can nobody is stopping you from dispersed camping. But my pay check comes from the nightly fees. A TON OF SUPPLIES and maintenance landscaping ECT goes into it you expect people to clean you’re shit off the walls of the bathrooms for free? Not happening buddy you can complain about paying nightly fees but you will also complain when there’s nobody there to clean you’re bathrooms answer you’re questions all hours of the night, provide you firewood, call the sheriff when visitors break the law, I could go on and on who do you think paints the picnic tables and the inside of the bathrooms? Me who do you think makes sure you have good water spigots? Yeah it’s not gonna happen unless I have a job. Don’t take it for granted and be more grateful I have dealt with some very disgusting things thanks to visitors most do not pick up after themselves they think there’s a magical fairy who’s obligated to pick you’re feces off the floor because A LOT of people evidently aren’t competent enough to use the restroom correctly.

  13. Ashley S on April 11, 2023 at 11:41 am

Manchin is corrupt as they come… This will ruin the current park system by allowing commercialization of them…

  14. russell donithan on April 11, 2023 at 11:41 am

Listen to the details and you understand the problems

  15. Beyond PC on April 11, 2023 at 11:42 am

To ban filming on public lands is to concede that the land is not actually public. It’s already been ruled in the supreme court that filming in public – even for profit – is legal.

  16. One Nation Under Duress on April 11, 2023 at 11:43 am

What’s blood boiling is, all this money being spent on Ukraine could have revamped all of our parks across the nation!!! Our government is INSANE!!! Build back better?! More like “slap you in your face harder. And… what are you gonna do about it? Nothing.”

  17. Nicholas Layton on April 11, 2023 at 11:44 am

This sounds like a total money grab that will lead to another permitting system and less free open access to our public lands

  18. Azlorn Magus on April 11, 2023 at 11:44 am

I’m not paying anyone $50 a night or anything to sleep on my own land, outside, using my own stuff. You People are tripping. Good luck collecting. It’ll cost you more just to beach at me than you’ll ever get outta me. I’m gonna film it all too and sell it for cheeseburgers. Go suck on a bag of doorknobs.

  19. VanDoghies on April 11, 2023 at 11:44 am

That 7 people and under rule filming rule is nice but clarifying the rules on filming (Commercial vs. Content Creation vs. Private Use) will be very welcome if they showcase the detailed difference between professional filming projects (Movies/Ads) vs. YouTube Vlogging style content. I think volume of the production should be specified. For example, drone use, camera size, number of cameras, equipment size, etc. Any idea if that is part of the bill or if it will be expanded?

  20. Earth Trips on April 11, 2023 at 11:46 am

I really hope that filming and videography permitting process goes through a big change. It’s really unnerving that I have to be careful about posting the YouTube videos of my family adventures. Great Video! Very informative! ✌️

  21. Nick Steele on April 11, 2023 at 11:48 am

Manchin is a good Democrat……..Make campgrounds with level campsites sites………..Not asking a lot there. Also, why would a National Park not have EV charging available these days.

  22. Don At Zero Days Life on April 11, 2023 at 11:48 am

Not just affordable, but free areas like blm and forests. Many do not want to pay to live.

Get government out of our parks. These greedy crooks need to be in prison.

  26. James Higgins-Thomas on April 11, 2023 at 11:52 am

I would much rather see the Parks’ investing (and funded) to maintain their facilities for the use of all. Our public lands, parks in particular, are a national treasure and they should be treated as such. It is terrible that we keep treating them as cost centers.

  27. Cetok01 on April 11, 2023 at 11:53 am

Let’s see if it actually passes. Maybe, if they give Biden his ice cream first. But as with anything government-connected, the devil is in the details…what else is buried in the bill?

  28. rockjockchick on April 11, 2023 at 11:53 am

    Thank you for this video!

  29. Nunya Bidness on April 11, 2023 at 11:53 am

I’m sorry, but the entities and institutions that even try to actually represent the public interest are few, and they tend to draw a lot of fire from the pretenders.

Our government has tons of land. It also has people running it’s various parts that seem to be bright, somewhat responsible, often careerist, and mostly ignorant of business. The reality is that the best businesses will mostly refuse to bid on government business because they have all learned it’s bad business. This leaves companies that specialize in dealing with the Feds rather than providing services.

  30. jane freeman on April 11, 2023 at 11:53 am

Our national parks are the last great thing about the USA. Privatization / concessionaires ruins the experience. Yosemite is the expensive Disneyland of camping and also made unsafe by allowing fires.

  31. Donna C. on April 11, 2023 at 11:54 am

Government should step and run all our Government properties no matter what entity they are. Private entities ( ie corporations) do not give a sh__ about the land…only the money!!

  32. Jean Roeder on April 11, 2023 at 11:58 am

🚐 🏕 As a dry camper I am opposed to target shoting in any park, totally unnecessary and makes for an unsafe environment. Big rig RV accommodations Will take away from the beauty, the wilderness and the camping enjoy in our national parks. 🚐

  33. Original Mama Grizzly on April 11, 2023 at 11:59 am

I thought the envelopes for money were wonderful, simple and efficient. It gave you a sense of freedom, too!

  34. MAtilda Mortuaryserver on April 11, 2023 at 12:00 pm

Considering millions will be going homeless soon it is a good thing they allow longer camping.

  35. toni Etters on April 11, 2023 at 12:02 pm

I am becoming concerned about my right to privacy with the fact that every other person has a YouTube channel. It is becoming impossible to camp with a shred of privacy due to the drone filming as well. people walk around blindly looking at their dam cameras filming oblivious to anyone around them trying to enjoy the same area/view/national park/monuments while Thay loudly give a tour to their audience who are apparently too lazy to come see it themselves, Only so that the youtuber can scrape a few cents off of it here and there by likes, clicks, views and comments such as this one. I’m not knocking making a buck, but I save up most of the year in order to bring my family to see these places the Not everyone’s ego is bolstered by seeing themselves, family or small children on someone’s channel. Maybe we should just stay at home and watch the YouTube video on it. It’s just annoying is all.

  36. jane freeman on April 11, 2023 at 12:05 pm

Yosemite is ridiculously expensive and if hiking thru on a trail they make it obnoxiously difficult ( can hike one way but not the other so have to take a bus and double back then take a bus again )….It was just wierd rules that made no sense and were incredibly rude about it. . ..I totally understand preservation tactics and protecting the indelible beauty but a huge inconsistency is they allow fires which is insane. All of California was burning and nowhere else on the pct were fires allowed along the coastal states…the rest of the NPs and NFs were closed due to fires, but inexperienced campers had bon fires there…it seemed crazy. Wake up in the AM you can’t see the signature rock features bc eyes are burning from over a hundred campfires in the night, and they are in a polluted haze. Plus, there are thousands of year old trees just a few miles away…. It seems entitled campers getting their way bc they’ve spent a fortune to glamp there? IDK. The pct was absolutely wonderful, but Yosemite was like dealing with an HOA in the wilderness. Maybe the problem is largely concessionaires who money there way to making it unsafe… there’s only one road out of there with hundreds of campers some drunk, dry and windy, and hundreds of fires seems like a tragedy for people and flora and fauna waiting to happen.

  37. Robert Evans on April 11, 2023 at 12:05 pm

They are not expanding it , they prohibit it , tax it , forbid it , then they come around and hassle you for doing it . Screw the govt refund police

  38. Ah Jodie on April 11, 2023 at 12:10 pm

Thank you! I had no idea all that was going on with the parks!

  39. RiceCake3000 on April 11, 2023 at 12:10 pm

Internet looks more like a windfall for Musk. Only way you are going to really add internet is using something like Starlink. Can’t imagine the government putting in the infrastructure for Wi-Fi

Also, fingers crossed this passes. But idk, looks like government is dead locked for another 2 years. Not to mention the pending debt ceiling, might have bigger things to worry about. Like when/if those parks close due to the government defaulting on their debt.

  40. mike potter on April 11, 2023 at 12:10 pm

best example I’ve come across is a horse stable adjacent to state land, a $10 a night campsite on state land with a 30 foot tall pile of horse shit it the middle, just because its state land doesn’t mean they own it, its OUR land

  41. s a on April 11, 2023 at 12:16 pm

Don’t want these campgrounds to be run privately that is BS! That mean only the privileged will be running it! NOT>GOOD!

  42. Gail Gebhard on April 11, 2023 at 12:17 pm

Holy cow! That was a lot of information and you did a great job! Your research and great explanations are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  43. rustytr on April 11, 2023 at 12:17 pm

I’ve never listened to the no filming, it’s not constitutional no matter what government overreach says, stand up for your rights or you won’t have them.

  44. Jerry Green on April 11, 2023 at 12:18 pm

Bills like this will destroy our public lands. RVs should be banned from public properties.

  45. K Lor on April 11, 2023 at 12:19 pm

    Good stuff. Thank you.

  46. Rachael B on April 11, 2023 at 12:20 pm

While the government can be inefficient, the private sector usually prices everything in a way that benefits the rich (that don’t pay their fair share of taxes) and hurts the average American.

  47. Jerry Merryfield on April 11, 2023 at 12:23 pm

Shouldn’t need a permit to film on public land. When the land belongs to the people

  48. pReTTy UgLy on April 11, 2023 at 12:23 pm

so basically, putting into legislation a hidden requirement to have or to own a computing device AND have access to internet,
    okay, so don’t be poor…?

  49. David Zeller on April 11, 2023 at 12:26 pm

Regarding all these anti-concessionaire posts, perhaps a solution would be to create a single not-for-profit that runs the sites. Give it a budget partially from the relevant government agencies, support from other non-profits, and a board made up of representatives from key constituencies. "Profits" could be limited to building reserves for future improvements, maintenance, and emergencies. Strict limits on executive pay and bonuses should be a requirement as well. Maybe position the top spot as one taken by established, possibly near-retirement executives who would be willing to forego excessive pay. Some government roles are like this, where someone leaves industry/academia for a number of years and then possibly returns, too.

Can’t keep track of missing people in their Parks but they’re passing bills for what again???
