Camping World Horror Story and calling it quits

Camping World Horror Story and calling it quits

With only 600 miles on his new motorhome (purchased in August 2019), this RV owner’s coach has spent 9 of the last 12 months in the shop. Can you imagine? Nine months of excuses and problems and broken promises. Nine months of being denied the use of his RV. Seeking direction, this frustrated RVer called the Wingman a few months ago and had filed his complaint with his state’s attorney general. The response from the attorney general, Camping World and the manufacturer manifested into the decision for this RVer to call it quits.

Want to contact the Wingman? Send him an email to rvwingman@gmail.com or call 24/7 and leave him a voicemail at 1-330-WINGMAN.

I got me an extended warranty that I have used only two times…$100.00 deductible…the cost of repaired cost $3,000.00.

I would never go there just hearing that story. So sad that someone can take your hard earned money and laugh in your face once they have that money. One upset customer can ruin a business. I guess they think they are the only game in town. But there must be a way to avoid them at all cost especially give all the other comments.

I went to camping world they tried to pressure use into buying a camper . We told them when we first got there that all we were doing is looking to get an idea of what type of camper we wanted.

In my humble opinion, RV ownership would be a much improved with the following attitude: when you buy an RV, you are buying an ongoing maintenance project. The bigger the RV, the bigger the project. My wife and I purchased a 2016 Winnebago mini drop a few years ago, we have been very happy with it because I made the purchase knowing that I was going to do the maintenance myself. We built a shed for it to park in when we are not using it and that makes a world of difference.

Unfortunately with Camping World it’s a case of being too big too fast ! Marcus Lemon promotes himself as a smart business man however he should step it up with his camping world customer service otherwise just like other large companies in the past, that thought they were too big to fail! he too will suffer the consequences of his lack of respect for the customer!!!

CW seems enjoy the game of monopoly like when walmart led to no more mom and pop hardware, sporting goods, etc stores

  10. Mary Wehmeier on January 3, 2023 at 3:56 am

I’d have sued CW and the manufacturer

  11. crazy prepper on January 3, 2023 at 4:00 am

Be careful they’re gonna take a hit out on you lol

  12. Leveraction on January 3, 2023 at 4:00 am

If you really want to see how it’s made go to the manufacturer look at their facilities look at their personnel I mean take a deep look and you’ll see exactly what you’re getting for the most part look at what their materials are made of look where the materials are being made look at it all remember you’re not buying a house but you’re not buying something it’s going to last more than 20 years but it should at least last that 20 years this is not your campers of the 1950s they’re still around cuz they were made out of quality materials back then

  13. Leveraction on January 3, 2023 at 4:02 am

We have to understand they’re just the sales people camping world even though they are not on the up and up it’s the manufacturer if you have water leaks just so you know the people that work in the RV / camper / mobile home industry I know because I grew up in that area in Indiana most of those people are dope heads, quality control exists next to nothing My stepdad looked at me one day and said we can do the work inside these plants cuz we will electricians but you will never work in one of these plants because look at the people that build these things and they company that uses the cheapest material they can you’ll get no quality it’s just push them out the door and sucker beware

  14. crazy prepper on January 3, 2023 at 4:04 am

The bad thing is someone else is gonna get that camper that can’t afford taking a hit like that.

  15. Mudd on January 3, 2023 at 4:04 am

That voicemail is exactly why I’ll never buy one. Ever.

Well built Tiny Homes were becoming popular, so the RV Industry jumped on that and began building expensive, crappy built tiny homes.

  19. Hersh Johnson on January 3, 2023 at 4:07 am

One, of MANY problems is, the Dealer is loyal to the manufacturer NOT the customer. The Dealer deals with the Manufacturer weekly if not daily… and HAS to, where as they deal with the customer once if they are lucky (rig is well built) and if they can stop any other customer contacts "other than out warranty work" they will blow the customer off…..

I will NEVER buy any "Covid" rig and will include 2017 – 2022+ (as long as they keep banging them out with labor shortages).

Lastly, the Manufacturer are screwing everyone INCLUDING Dealers. They do a crappy job building them, and still ship them out to the Dealers. They tell the Dealers to fix THEIR problems, and then pay a crappy price to the Dealer to fix THEIR problems, so Dealers are stuck to fix their crap at crappy prices. So, because we all know crap runs downhill usually… the Customer is at the lower end and gets the crap.

What is sad… other than the parts shortages, there is a way to fix most of these problems very simply, but the Manufacturers continue with what doesn’t work well. Doesn’t work well for the Customers, Dealers, and ultimately for themselves. Hmmm…. maybe it only works for the savvy stockholders that know when to get into the market and when to get out in the nick of time (read… insider info/TERM LIMITS).

As always, THANKS Alan for your efforts!!!

I couldn’t be given an RV after what friends have experienced with their RV.

  21. Don Parsons on January 3, 2023 at 4:07 am

Good call Allan, ain’t no way I was going too drop $40 + G on a truck camper. I bought one for $800, threw on 4 new legs, new fridge and forced air furnace, fix the roof with supports, new extra large door all in for $2800… it ain’t no princess but it’s warm dry and toasty… Everything secure and sound… Its the best frugal camper unit I’ve owned. I like simple… It’s easier that way…

Camiping world is a joke stop buying

  23. Moe Banshee on January 3, 2023 at 4:08 am

This is happening in every industry and I know it’s not an RV but I bought a manufactured home from twin eagles Rivers manufactured homes all I kept getting told is "it’s HUD approved. Leaks everywhere water running down the Walls running on the furnace. I’ve had to have them out to the house multiple times I got electric shocks twice. My husband was dying and I had a bucket in The parlor where water was coming in on a house that was 2 years old. No one takes accountability anymore for their work. Once a camper is off they’re a lot it’s sucker beware. It’s the same with everything now.

How can we trust even your suggestions for smaller rv dealers when they are your “sponsors”

  27. Kitakitz on January 3, 2023 at 4:10 am

I got Terminated For telling potential customers to get an independent INSPECTION. I told them to take the vehicle they were interested in to a good mechanic on their TEST DRIVE. I never had any customers come back after purchase ANGRY. I always told them if there was NO warranty that meant the dealership would NOT fix or refund 1¢, even if the vehicle BLEW UP, 1 Block from the sales lot. The other sales people were frequently dodging complaints and angry customers.

We went through the same thing with CW, but we can’t take the hit and sell it. It just sits end the garage out of the weather. We always heard not to buy from CW, but we didn’t listen to our friends and we are paying the price.

  30. Super Dave on January 3, 2023 at 4:17 am

Buy a used but like new RV, let someone else take the hit and have the headaches.

  31. Lisa Bernardo on January 3, 2023 at 4:18 am

Hello Alan and thank you for doing what you are doing. I hope to retire next June 2023, sell my condo, and purchase an RV. Possibly a Class B, maybe a Class C depending on if I feel comfortable driving one. Can you recommend a reputable dealer in, or near Portland, Oregon? I’m willing to drive south to Salem, even Eugen if need be, or into Vancouver, Washington. I had made an appointment to visit Camping World but am rethinking that decision after listening to some of your advice. Bluedog is another dealer that has discounts through Costco. Just want to be as informed as possible to make the best decision possible. Thank you again! Lisa

I bought my first trailer this year. I went into it knowing I would have to do the repairs myself. Luckily I’m pretty mechanical in nature. Love this channel

  34. Juliette Rogers on January 3, 2023 at 4:20 am

What about the people Richard sold the RV to? The dealerships sell. The manufacturer is the base.

  35. Michael Simon on January 3, 2023 at 4:22 am

My wife and I are considering buying a 30 ft or so travel trailer and taking our two teenagers ( both have autism) and traveling the country full time. We aren’t rich by any means, so when, or if, we buy an RV it’s going to be a lot of money for us. Hearing the state of the RV industry as of late is giving us pause and making us seriously take another look at our decision.
Thank you for your honesty and look forward to your shows every week. Keep up the good work Wingman

I wouldn’t by toilet paper from camping world.

  37. tennisbum on January 3, 2023 at 4:28 am

Stick to the independent Mom and Pop RV dealerships. Anything corporate is a bunch of BS and regard the public as toilet paper, "caveat emptor",
    buyer beware!

  40. Jo Frazier-Hansen on January 3, 2023 at 4:31 am

I live just down the road from this dealership, since this episode there’s now two other dealerships right next to that place. I know I looked at a class c at this dealership. I got a wierd feeling while I was there and decided not to buy from them. I’m still researching dealerships and their service records before I spend any money. I’m also still researching manufacturers too. Warranties, complaints, cost etc.

  41. Mikael Krukoff on January 3, 2023 at 4:31 am

    All dealerships are scams

  42. Headie Doll on January 3, 2023 at 4:34 am

I’m a first timer/buyer. Aftermath of this new covid world hit me and I had to buy a travel trailer to live FULL-TIME in. Not even an RV. (really, what’s the lifestyle difference). I did not purchase at CW but a local chain in the 2hour radius I call home. As soon as I signed my paperwork I felt like nobody cared. Right off the bat in the dealerships lot, they "tech" rushed thru the process of showing me (I’m super green) how everything worked in my unit and my hitch&/hook up components. Then I’m pulling out super nervous of course, and thank God I stopped to take a pic of it because a man (who worked there but I hadn’t met during my dealings) asked "yall good with the breaking system?" ….I say "What?…no". Turns out thru the whole rush of getting me out of there and on to the next one, they never installed the system. I could of killed someone on the road or my family straight off the lot. Turns out my towing vehicle/truck didn’t work with the new Bluetooth (bullshit unsafe) brake control ($250) they wanted to rush shove on. I had to leave the new rv I just bought there for 3 weeks to get my truck serviced for that. And It turns out what they were trying to put on is ish. Not my trucks fault so to speak. They didn’t have they service time to fit me in a timely manner (for them) to install a normal manual brake system. So I had to schedule thru a brake shop in the town I bought the rv in. The entire time, I live nowhere so there goes about 1,500 to stay in a crappy motel for all this added to time parts labor. Insult to injury when I was finally able to pick my rv up after about three weeks, the dealership didn’t even remember who I was. And wouldn’t refresh me on anything they "taught"/"told" me on original pickup date. On top of all of it too, the 30day warranty they gave me on the unit was basically used up sitting on their lot because as soon as they got the check. No effs were given. The ONLY thing REAL they did for me was let me keep it on their lot the entire time.

Oh and I’m still having brake problems, an electrical awning problem tied with other electrical/fuse issues. Today is August 28, 2022. I bought my travel trailer July 12, 2022.

For all who read this, thank you. It feels good to get it off my chest. And I hope NO-ONE else ever has this problem.

As a person who supplied Thor with OEM parts in the 1990s I can tell you that they are junk.

  44. Pokey K on January 3, 2023 at 4:35 am

Your terrific. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

  45. John Smith on January 3, 2023 at 4:37 am

Now I understand this is 2022 and this call took place back in 2020 and the RV was purchased in 2019 and the owner decided to just sell it due to all the problems with there Thor motor home and took a huge money lose on selling it. (upside down on the RV) Now fast forward to 2022 Thor brand as well as others like Winnebago, Entegra and others are all garbage for maybe if your lucky the 1st year your new 350k RV will be fine with no problems. But here my warning these types of diesel pushers will give you a lot of problems down the road and you will be upside down on your payments So DO NOT BY IT, do your research rent one for a week or two check everything out BEFORE you by. For me i would love to own an RV but the one I want I can not afford it’s a Prevost H43 triple slide made by featherlite coaches. But one day I hope to by and when that day comes I will post a video ok. Well good luck to all in your adventures peace out
