Julie…. This video was superb! Jam packed with practical details about space planning, as well as finishes. One of the most useful kitchen design videos I have seen.
I have now subscribed to your channel. 🙂
I love this series, I would love to see a video on the garage.
Great tips. I have a tiny 50s eat in kitchen with doors and windows on literally every wall. Trying to create a nice space for a table has been a challenge.
I thought this video was wonderful, such thoughtful points. I designed a new kitchen a few years ago and didn’t do many mistakes, luckily. Now I’m about to move and design a new kitchen in that home. I listened very closely as this one is a lot smaller so need every square inch.
Very informative video. After seeing all those fancy kitchens, it just confirms I prefer simple and not so intricate. Too much to clean and take care of. Some of those kitchens are just too much to look at. Complicated ceiling designs, flooring, and cabinet trim. Thanks for showing the variety. Some I did like.
I love your handle problem. I had the same issues after we did out kitchen. Never ever again. Stupid handles…..
Really – like your channel.
impressive you covered almost everything in kitchen design.
This is incredible content. That you!
great and informative
Bathroom’s
One newer feature that I’ve found surprising is the way small appliance have cord that are barely over a foot long, so that if you want to use several they all have to be clustered together for the cords to reach the outlets.
ashe leandro black kitchen, i found it before. What is the brand of the brass faucet?
Great advise ! 💞
Great eye opening video😳😁
Thank you for your inspiration ❤️
When designing our kitchen I asked our contractor to include 3 outlets on the long countertop surface for my 3 most used appliances I leave out. Coffee pot, blender and mixer. He only put in two.
So, writing things down or marking where you need them is a good idea.
This is very good! I have a couple questions..
I have a window that will be at least 36 inches from the island, but still very close… the window will be LOWER than the island. I think that will look odd. What do you or others think? I really want an island! 😬
Thanks!
Dear Julie, Absolutely Wonderful video!!
Loving your videos! How about connecting outside kitchens with your inside kitchen!
We forgot to allocate space for the bin.
Hi, I just love your videos! ❤️
When your kitchen /dining room is all in one is it okay to have two different light fixtures in the same room?
You are a breath of fresh air dear. Well done
Basically this boils down to: "don’t be poor" & be sensible.
Most issues have to do with lacking space. Makes one wonder how do people manage in tight apartments like NY, Paris, Tokyo etc.
Julie, this video is extraordinarily helpful and comprehensive, I so appreciate all the valuable information. I wonder if you have a video that addresses compost station in the kitchen? How best to handle food scraps near the sink and fridge? We use a lidded pottery bowl adjacent to the sink, which we then empty into a freestanding 5 gallon compost bin which is picked up once a week. Home composting is now the law in VT and of course food waste is a major issue. How to do it neatly? I love your suggestion of the drawers for trash and recycling; would you just add a third one for compost?
I am an interior designer and have over the years spoken your design suggestions. My main complaint is that now OPEN shelving is popular but not functional. Grease and dust will begin to coat the pieces on the open shelving most definitely. Common sense is paramount in all interior projects and taking your time to really think about the use of space and get budget pricing, as well as, samples in the space considering the colors and lighting of the area makes all the difference with the end product!
Why do Americans call it a backsplash? They put the adjective, splash, at the end of the word. The noun part of the word is “back”. So logically it should named be a “splashback”; this the name we use in Australia. One fixes a stainless steel sheet , or tiles, on the wall behind a stove top to provide an easily cleaned surface.
Thank you so much for a well explained video, you’re the best!! Love your video !
The most helpful video I watched regarding kitchen mistakes, I’m renovating my kitchen soon and this helped me very much, thanks !
It’s pretty difficult to keep up with the video, when I only see kitchens, which are bigger than my living room.
Thank you
You have been help
This is such great info. I learned a lot. So much to think about when designing a kitchen
Can you do one for outdoor living space
Binging on your videos budgeting $60k for a kitchen in a small house.
Love your methodical pragmatic organized communication.
Quick personal question since I am seeing a lot of you. What does your tattoo say on your left arm?
15 inches above refrigerator? I see them inside cabinets I am not sure what you mean.
Thanks for the tips. Really helpful
Looking for the functional kitchen. Good info here. On YT too much interior decorating and little cooking.
Thank you so much ! I was just about to buy open ended handles for my Kabinetts! You saved me !
This is by far my favorite video. You broke it down to the T, even mentioned the lighting! Thank you so much for your insight.
i had opened handled door pulls in one house and my son who was 9 at the time climbed to the counter to to get some cookies from the above cabinet and then jumped down, impaling his knee on a open end of a door pull. After having to lift him up to pull him off we went to the emergency room for stitches. Just a note open pull handles can be dangerous around young children.
So in love with your channel! This video has helped us with ideas
11:04 is that backsplash made out of the flooring? How well does it hold up
I am in a mobile home and I rent so I have no choice about spaces.
Make over for Bathrooms
Lol who remodels their kitchen every 7-10 years??
What a wealth of information. I have a friend who wants to remodel her kitchen and has to go on a stricter budget due to having to replace her A/C. I will talk to her again. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great video !
Love your designs and advice. My husband and I are planning on downsizing in 2 years. I’d love to see designs for empty nesters. Thank you!
WOW – SUBSCRIBED- you are amazing!! Thank you for this VERY helpful video XOX
