Considering gas prices when you did your travels, you would have spent close to $12,000 for the same amount of gas for the trip today! But for a once in a lifetime trip, why not, right?

  4. Ortwein International on February 7, 2023 at 7:08 am

My guess was 12,400 miles. You earned a like. 🙂 well done video.

  5. Banana Patch on February 7, 2023 at 7:09 am

Nope. We’ll just go live in Mexico…

  6. Bob H on February 7, 2023 at 7:09 am

I’m not a "bot" and I was impressed with your video regardless of the accuracy. You kept track of a lot of expenses over a considerable time, sold for more than original cost, etc. Sounds like it was a good investment let alone a lot of fun. Enjoyed watching the two of you, you’re a pleasant couple to watch! Keep up the good work.

  7. THE_KINGDOM on February 7, 2023 at 7:10 am

Great video! Wish you guys still had the Airstream for more content, but vanlife videos would be cool too! Keep it up!

  8. Generic Watcher on February 7, 2023 at 7:11 am

Well, I’m glad you recognized how lucky you got, selling a depreciating asset for MORE. Also interesting that you only did this for one year and sold everything to recoup expenses… I would have thought if you enjoyed it, you would have kept it for future trips. For someone who wants to live full time in a camper and not sell the stuff after one year, do you think it is fair to say that If you didn’t sell the camper and truck and assuming the cost of the truck and RV would be spread across 7 years, that would have added another $10k/year to the cost?

  9. Just Chuck-It on February 7, 2023 at 7:12 am

It’s not that much but, there is a lot that goes into maintenance and repairs. There is also the issue with space availability. There is not enough camp grounds for all the campers.

The people who want to live on the road, travel and see the country combined with the fair weather campers, those who depend on RV life to live have a very difficult time finding available spaces at RV camping lots.

My folks bought an RV in 2000. They lived on the road visiting every state and all National Parks for 2 & 1/2 yrs. At the time, I thought they were crazy, but for yrs now, I realized I was wrong. Filled with beauty and freedom! Would be great to do! Cheers guys 💗

These videos aggravate me. Posting this a month ago with 2 year old prices.

You were very lucky to have stayed under 22k net cost. You bought and sold at the right time and traveled during the peak of the pandemic when gas was cheaper. Plus you were able to perform your own upgrades. Today it would probably cost 50% more. Great use of resources!

Here is a useful tip. If you can’t find a dump station, pull over on the side of the highway and open the black water tank. When you drive by the same area in about a year, the grass and vegetation in the area will be a little greener. Come on now, who hasn’t done this? Doesn’t the bear shit in the woods?

Where do you drop your trailer if you need to go to a doctors appointment?

  24. MrGreatplum on February 7, 2023 at 7:47 am

Really interesting – I don’t think I’d clocked that you sold your caravan for so much more than you bought it – great investment!

12/13mpg!!! Did you have to have your own fuel tanker following you? 😜

How’s the transition from trailer to vanlife?

  29. The Driver on February 7, 2023 at 7:50 am

Very interesting video. You gave some good advice and pointed out a few things to watch out for. But I would warn anyone watching this video that your total costs are irrelevant to anyone today. Even if your trip is only a year ago due to inflation it may as well be a decade ago. With today’s price for trailers, trucks, gas and food the total is basically doubled.
Your timing was incredible. You are very lucky!

  30. David Peterson on February 7, 2023 at 7:51 am

I think your math was off. $5000 a year for camp grounds / 365 days is around $14 a day, not $1.40.

  31. ofontela on February 7, 2023 at 7:54 am

How does a total camping cost of 5000.00 dollars average to 1.40 a day? 1.40*365 = 511.00? Did I miss something?

  32. Yooper on February 7, 2023 at 7:58 am

You missed the Upper peninsula of Michigan lol.
