DIY Rustic Wood Wall Under $40

REPIN THIS TO YOUR PINTEREST: http://pin.it/HTxuAIN

Hey y’all! We are so excited to get started with DIY’s in our new house! This is just the first of many! So, we decided to go room to room and we started with Darryl’s music studio! I decided to go with a rustic industrial gentleman feel to it! I chose to go with symmetrical planks versus staggered planks because I wanted a cabin like feel. Staggered planks could look really nice as well. I am so excited for you to see the rest of it!!!

Very nice. Looks great. You could always use a sponge for the hard to get places for future reference!!

I like foam brushes for staining

If you want to build it yourself, just google Woodglut. I know you will find good solutions for all your ideas.

Proper installation involves cutting the boards into different lengths to stagger them on the wall So you don’t end up with one straight vertical seam where all the boards end.

Great video, would you staunch them before you put them in the wall,

  6. Stacy Kimbler on May 4, 2022 at 8:59 pm

Stagger the joints. Stain before install. Otherwise good job.

I like this idea and it’s cheaper then buying decent floor wood to put on the wall

but my question is what type of nails did u use?
We’re u marking so they went into the the wood behind the sheet rock?

I have held off on it since I don’t want the wall to fall I. The middle of the night. Maybe the rung and groove helps.

Is it still up with no problems? Looks cool. I was thinking of trying wider wood. I seen it on this old house and it looked really cool. My luck all the wood would warp on the wall. Lol

Thanks for the video. Projects are always cool to do when the fam is involved.

I love what you did with your wall, it looks amazing! I have a couple of questions. What kind of tool did your husband use to make the precision cuts in the panels to fit them around the trim and electrical wall plugs? Please know that I’m a 60-year-old lady and I have no tools, but I can rent them. I also have very little experience in the DIY arena, but I’m learning and I learned a lot from your video. Also, do you think I could stagger the panels on the wall in the same way that wood or laminate flooring is laid (if you know what I mean)? Thanks.

Thank you so much ❤️🤩 I have been wanting to do this with my TV wall and this looks perfect. I loved the energy and the work 🥰

Start at the bottom and work your way up , mark out studs so you know your nailing into stud. Much easier to stain first.

  12. G M on May 4, 2022 at 9:06 pm

    stain them before installing them

  14. alhakisan on May 4, 2022 at 9:08 pm

Nice job! It really looks awesome!!!
Seriously though, how the heck did you stain all that on carpet without a drop cloth??? And not get a single stray drop anywhere? You folks have some maaad "no mess" juju going on! Girl please, I get stain splatters just opening the damn can! 😫😆

Thanks again for sharing! You’ve definitely inspired me! 🙏

Thank you you saved me some money what shade is that blue wall ?

  22. James Pyle on May 4, 2022 at 9:14 pm

Dang I just sanded 15 fence boards for a day because I couldn’t find any planks that were inexpensive..these would have worked lol.

I think you should have stained the boards first – but it looks great. I would have offset the boards but that’s just a personal taste =D Also stain in the breaks would be nice, some was missed and it looks a little off.

  23. Sharon Johnson on May 4, 2022 at 9:15 pm

I love it! Yup! Going to do that to a few walls in our house! I almost did the fake painted on wall! Thanks for stopping me! Shoo!

  24. greg randol on May 4, 2022 at 9:17 pm

I’ve heard good feedback about the Woodglut plans.

  25. DTOM420 on May 4, 2022 at 9:18 pm

    Couple suggestions:
    1. The joints where one piece butts to another (end to end, horizontally) board should be randomly spread out. For example, between the door and the closet door, there should have been some joints created. Every board being solid between the doors makes it look fake. Just like on a big, open wood floor there should have been some staggered joints.

    2. For a remodel job you would have been better staining all the boards BEFORE you cut them or hung them. This makes for far less danger of messing up the carpet or the trim or even the paint on the remaining painted walls. Also, by pre-staining the boards, you can see what you’re hanging and where; providing you the ability to design the coloration of the wall. Finally, pre-staining means the ONLY things you need to stain, once the wall is finished, are the ends of the pieces you cut and some minor touch-ups.

Wall did look great; but a few little changes like these would make it THAT much better! Hope this helps.

Cool, but for the love why didn’t you put an old blanket or pad down while you were mixing the stain? You could ruin the carpet.

  27. Oladriver on May 4, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Beautiful wall! Thank you for sharing!

How many things of wood did u but I’m doing my living room like this?

  33. Wil Ferch on May 4, 2022 at 9:28 pm

Minor improvement suggestion…..you cut around the light switch and receptacle COVER PLATES, which give the result a novice look ( the rest looks like real pro). Better….IMO….to cut an opening to match the switch and receptacle opening; the smaller size WITHOUT the cover plate….THEN bring the boxes "out" more and flush….and THEN add the cover plates……would look a LOT more pro….otherwise…looked like you took your time and cut very accurately for the other stuff…nice job. Also…staining first before install is a lot less gut wrenching for spills and such..and doesn’t require you to be sao careful as you near the white trim.
