East Coast Beach Camping at Assateague Island Camping – Maryland
East Coast Beach Camping at Assateague Island Camping – Maryland
This video is all about RV camping in Assateague Island in Maryland and Virginia.
You can camp on Assateague Island at Assateague State Park, or on the Assateague Island National Seashore Campgrounds.
Assateague State Park is a Maryland State Park that offers more than 2,000 campsites. 120 are full-service and camper cabins, and there are also 100 picnic shelters to guests.
Assateague Island National Seashore has two campgrounds. The ocean side campground has 43 sites and the Bay Side Campground has 45 sites. Most have no hookups.
Assateague is a 37-mile long barrier island on the Atlantic Coast of Maryland and Virginia. The terrain is a mix of sand dunes, maritime forests and salt marshes, and is just a couple miles wide at its broadest section. Two herds of wild horses inhabit the island. The Maryland herd roams freely in part of Assateague Island National Seashore. The Virginia herd roams in large fenced areas in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The horses are descendants of late 17th century horses brought by colonists attempting to avoid livestock taxes. They now thrive among other wildlife including sika deer, ghost crabs and migrating birds like the great blue heron and snowy egret.

Where areas did you stay in? And what did you prefer? any loops you liked or disliked?
Beautiful camping site, though ive never heard of that island though im in maryland
Were you there in February? I’m surprised you didn’t see any horses.
This is my favorite beach and the 1st place I vacationed with my RV. It was super cold in November 2019. Since the Pandemic, i thought they closed the park to visitors 😣
I want to stay there for a weekend I live in md
Just so everyone knows, the wild Ponies are also in the Maryland part of the park, not just Virginia.
I enjoyed the blog. I will be back for more. Just a suggestion, get a mike cover. It will help
Just a just a note the wild ponies also live in the campgrounds. They have a number of family groups that live in the campgrounds. We camp for two weeks in July in the state park every year in the same loop. They same family grouping is always around often showing off their newest baby pony.
a have a few questions, 1 how much is the entrance cost?, 2 do you have to pay to camp or do you just pay the entrance and tell them how long your going to camp?
Do they rents RV in there ?
Its Beautiful but when I saw the horses my heart just melt😍😍Thanks for Sharing

I just heard about this place on the news. YouTube never fails me, lol. Looks interesting. The bridge made me reconsider 😭
This was very informative
Permit required plus a rescue kit. It was 75$ and there are a limited number issued…
I went here in 2019, it was fun. Going again in 2 days.
You need a Mic, Mike

Or just get some food at fast food places like dominos
Luv Assateague NP😉
Great information. So beautiful! I love beach camping. Assateague and Chincoteague have been on my travel list ever since I read Marguerite Henry’s Chincoteague books as a little girl. I’m on the west coast but I hope to get there some day – with luck in a nice RV!
I usually go there every single year
Great video we live nearby but have never camped there but it is our favorite beach…
