Van life is not about having perfect running water system. Van life is about simplicity it’s about freedom it’s about not having to conform to the norms and still thriving.

Van life is also about prioritizing what’s important to the van dweller.
It’s pretty obvious by your video that what you wear is a priority to you because all we can really see of your van is your neatly lined up shirts hanging that really seem to take up too much space in my opinion. But obviously again to each his own on what their priorities are.

Stealth camping in a 25 ft step van, commercial looking fed ex type rig on the west coast. Three yrs part time, one yr full time and still no sink , plumbing or toilet. Version 1.0 consisted of cabinets, bins, air mattress and cooler all from Walmart. I come from the Bob Wells school of no build rigs. I clean everything I use to cook & eat with right away no dumping in a sink for later. I do have a collapsible portable sink from Amazon, but have never used it. For me it’s not worth the money and matenace to have all the electronics and plumbing systems. Safe travels to u. 🙏

bruh, i love clean design. slightly robotic, but simple, and intellectual

  5. Kathy Ho on October 7, 2022 at 6:07 am

Please do more videos like this!! This kind of video is soo important for anyone looking to do van life or to improve their own van life.

    I subbed. Really good video!

  7. zumezoom on October 7, 2022 at 6:08 am

Do you have a full build video for your converted van? And how much did it cost you including price of van? How much are you paying for yearly insurance and gas, maintenance costs and parking?

  8. ytrew on October 7, 2022 at 6:09 am

you have a very materialistic mind (like most westerners and Asians) I thought you loved minimalistic nomadic life. No this guy with his wooden house isn’t minimalist, he is just rich and sedentary (by the way woods sucks as it’s fragile and needs a lot of chemicals to protect itself from the environment)

  9. Guerilla Tactix on October 7, 2022 at 6:10 am

No sure the fascination with a sink. Some of the most popular van lifers don’t have sinks. It all depends on where you live and what you’re looking to get out of van life. Chrome (Vancity Vanlife) has been in his van for years now and has survived without a sink. Plumbing and sinks are convenient, but I’ve seen enough people get by without it that I don’t think its necessarily as big of an issue as you make it seem in the first few van builds.

I love the design inputs you have for each tiny home. It really gives a depth to your critiques and makes your praises and criticisms feel more genuine.

I agree, Bob Wells is so practical

  14. John L on October 7, 2022 at 6:17 am

I think for me if I get into van life, the most most important for me is having a toilet so I can pee at night. I can live without plumbing. I can always shower outside, gym or at my work. Usually people build based on their needs.

As someone who I guess is part of NIMBY culture, its not exactly that I don’t want poor people around me. My issue is that I don’t really want people around me in general. I moved to a small town in the country side with a relatively older community. Developers now want to turn this country side town into a town iwith just under a million people in the next 10 years. Not saying that anything is wrong with that, but also not everywhere needs to be a city. Some people like to live in small towns and unfortunately society doesn’t want that to exist anymore. Society wants us living like cockroaches in like New York city. With bigger towns /cities come high crime rates, more traffic, more political issues and so on. Being in a smaller town is an escape from that and most people who live in these smaller towns do so to escape all that noise.

Affordable housing is bought up by big companies and left vacant to increase the value of the other properties they own.

  22. Michael Robb on October 7, 2022 at 6:23 am

    I like cirques

  23. Barbara Summers on October 7, 2022 at 6:24 am

Real affordable housing isn’t something any Cities or Counties or Contracters want to see, as it doesn’t gain enough taxes or profit for the builder, We need more people who are able to get through to those entities and We need to stop using housing for profit as well, we”ll see if there are any lawmakers willing to do that. It hasn’t really worked so far.

  24. Michael Smith on October 7, 2022 at 6:28 am

Um, you’re a "self-taught" engineer? That’s… not how that works. Source: I’m a licensed mechanical engineer. Misleading clickbait.

Bob is awesome love his channel CheapRvLiving, great shout-out for him. Wonderful content you have btw I really like it and your van is super interesting.

  27. Howard Lake on October 7, 2022 at 6:32 am

It takes serious talent to have the inventor of pre populated documents, car park car washing and many others, as a subscriber, but you have inspired a potential business idea and additions to existing ideas for me, with your brilliant van. But I have a potential idea for a tiny bit more space in your van. Somewhere in my apartment, I have a zip up dry cleaning, or suit carrying item. You could potentially put your hanging shirts in one, two or 3 of these. But then turn them 45 degrees. Also, would the cool box not fit in either of the front footwells. It would not be seen in the dark by anyone looking in. Last one. If the curtains were black on the side facing the windshield it would give an extra level of stealth for brighter or longer days….

You have great commentary and practical insight, given that you actually LIVE in your van, not just as an influencer or on vacation. One thing I didn’t see mentioned was the apparent lack of toilets in these van builds (which i noticed you have in yours). Now I’ve never lived in a van, but the #1 issue of van life seems to me the reliance on public toilets. If you don’t have one in your van, you’re still quite tied down.

  30. liv samech on October 7, 2022 at 6:36 am

Keep on keeping on, this was excellent.

  31. Layla Jean on October 7, 2022 at 6:38 am

I really like this video. However I do not agree about the clean aesthetic losing character. As a person who likes little trinkets and is definitely not a minimalist, the clean minimalist thing is THE/THEIR character. Being minimal is a character idk why people don’t consider it as such. If it seems cold and hostile then maybe that’s what thet’re comfortable in? Also hoped u linked the videos being talked about.

You gave us so much value in this video. Thanks for all the great ideas I’ve gotten from your videos

You should do more interviews of other Stealth Van owners and ask their experiences. You already have a great channel name for it.

  41. Beached Bum on October 7, 2022 at 6:49 am

Do you have a video from your van build? Did you build it yourself, or did you pay for the conversion? If so how much $ ? Keep up the good work!😁😁

  42. Erich Bauer on October 7, 2022 at 6:51 am

Really enjoyed this video. I found it especially interesting that you didn’t just go into the pure technical side but also addressed some of the artistic choices and social/political circumstances.

We need more of these VAN reacts please

  44. Roset03 on October 7, 2022 at 6:55 am

Some very good critiques I think. I have the same point of view about your point regarding the ‘ultra clean’ line design in the homes in 9:50 and 11:53. I think the look is cool too, but they never looked ‘lived-in’. To maintain the look, you have to totally change your behavior for the sake of the house design, which seems kinda crazy. Maybe for some this is okay, but I don’t think most people live like this. Where are dirty shoes after it rains? Who knows. Thank you cards from friends on the table? Nope. Souvenirs, pictures on the fridge from nieces and nephews? Nuh-uh. Those things don’t seem to ‘fit-in’ with this kind of design. I think they are more like, fun to look at in a magazine or website. For me I think it’s more, "fun to visit, but not to live."

The ‘NIMBY’ issue with small homes, is also an excellent discussion point. What a real hurdle for people desiring this type of lifestyle, and to be honest, I think this is the only video in which I’ve heard this discussed. Is there any hope for very desirable neighborhoods with non-permanent homes? I’m not sure and it may be a mountain that’s too steep to climb. One of many factors that folks will move into a neighborhood is for the look of the houses around them, and even if you have a rich guy in a small home in the lot next to you, you may not like the look of the wheels on his tiny house! I get their point of view too, it’s totally fair.

I think maybe you’d have to have ‘small home zoned’ neighborhoods in towns, in a ‘special’ subdivision, with/without a homeowner’s association. But then again, there are hairy issues: are you paying for the land? What about city utilities of gas, sewage, electricity? Will this just become like an RV camping site in the middle of a city? I’m not sure about this solution nor about having nice homes with modern amenities when you don’t pay property tax.

Very interesting points that you raised though. Well done.

Good content and selections, but… Your attitude is a bit much to bear. Come down a few notches off the high horse. Take off the "sophisticated, exasperated critique" cap. It actually comes off as kind of nerdy. That would go a long way.
