EXTREME KITCHEN MAKEOVER! DIY Remodel | Cramped 90s Kitchen To Beautiful Open Concept! HOUSE TO HOME

#housetohome

We recently sold our little starter home in the neighborhood and moved our family of 5 to our forever home and property. We are so grateful to be here and have fallen in love with so many of its wonderful features, but there’s definitely some fixing up that needs to happen around this place— especially in the kitchen which was accidentally flooded by the previous owners a few weeks before we closed on the purchase of this home.

I know, total bummer… but we are always looking for the silver lining and in this case we are excited to be able to get to work years earlier than we were planning to remodel this late 90s/ early 2000‘s builder-grade kitchen.

Even though a kitchen remodel can get very expensive very fast we still found ways to cut costs by find good deals, doing most of it ourselves and using a little creativity to make our kitchen dreams come true.

This is a two-part episode with part 1 being what we’re sharing today: The big stuff. Stay tuned for part two where we’ll be sharing the smaller details, finishing touches and final tour of the new space.

So join us as we tackle this monster of a project with many unexpected twists and turns and watch us complete another step on the journey of taking this place From House to Home.

Loving how your kitchen looks so far. Absolutely love the cabinets and the colour

  3. Audrey Wiggs on August 21, 2022 at 1:39 am

So fun to watch! I think you did the right thing to removed the sheet rock now rather than wonder about mold being behind it after you got the cabinets in. I’m curious, did there end up being mold behind the sheet rock or not?

I would have been just as excited as you with the tools for removing the wall paper

We are currently remodeling our kitchen so I love watching all your videos. You are a couple months ahead of us so it is soooo helpful to see all your organizing tips etc. I had a question tho, what color are your cabinets? We have Krafmaid cabinets in an off white color called canvas…they look just like yours, shaker style. We have black granite and a dark gray island with butcher block counter. I see so many white kitchen cabinets and my husband refused to have white again as our early 90’s house had them ( yucky vinyl , not wood) and we were tired of them. We are original owners so I understood. It is so nice to see someone now WITHOUT white. I started having second thoughts while watching all the you tube videos, but it was too late by then…. Thanks for the videos. You are new to me but I have subscribed and will keeping up with you, after I watch many of your previous videos.

Our new home has builder grade kitchen cabinets and I can see us upgrading the cabinets, installing backsplash, and new counter tops. I look forward to seeing the finished version. Natalie, you inspire me to get to work on my home.

  25. Catherine Somerville on August 21, 2022 at 2:03 am

We also redid our kitchen. A 1987 euro cabinets to white shaker with 2 double glass front cabinets. I chose bubbled glass and had a professional install the glass. I wallpapered the rear inner wall of all glass cabinets. The wallpaper matches the fabric on the seats of my island and the cornice over the french doors in our adjacent dining room. Our bottom island is navy, as is the top of the only wall. White wainscoting on bottom, navy paint on upper wall with white crown and ceiling. We removed popcorn ceilings too. Navy porcelain tile countertops with white grout. We wanted heat resistant counter and nixed quartz/stone. Our island is a large pentagon shape. I love kitchen remakes. We also added a 8 x8 pantry next to our laundry-room we stole the real estate from the garage.

  27. Sunshine C on August 21, 2022 at 2:05 am

Where did you get the flooring and what’s the name? I love the color!

  28. Christina ge on August 21, 2022 at 2:07 am

For the next time… we here in Germany have nearly always wallpapers.. so to remove them is very usual. At first we make, as you did, little holes in the wallpaper with a kind of brush. Then we take warm water and some drops of dishwaschercleaner.. an brush or spray it on the wall. Then you can remove it easily and it it very cheap also.. ;O)

  29. Elybeth Rodriguez on August 21, 2022 at 2:07 am

Loving the kitchen so far. What flooring is this… loving the color

  30. Katie Shaw on August 21, 2022 at 2:08 am

Beautiful, what is the colors of the cabinets?

  31. Thomas Family on August 21, 2022 at 2:14 am

Did you get a break from the previous owners for the flooding? Seems like they would take off from the price of the house or help pay for fixing it just wondering

  32. Rosemary Fazio on August 21, 2022 at 2:15 am

I love your new kitchen! The flooring looks great too! 🙋‍♀️🇦🇺

  33. Carrie Hagstrom on August 21, 2022 at 2:17 am

Looks amazing!! You guys are a great team!

  34. Judy Ellen on August 21, 2022 at 2:18 am

You guys are doing a real nice job. It is funny how making a small change like taking out the wall by the fridge made it so much better. Good idea! Can’t wait to see it finished.

  35. Gillian Loogman on August 21, 2022 at 2:18 am

What color are the cabinets? And the LVP flooring?do you have a product list? Thanks so much, it looks so beautiful!!

  36. Brandy on August 21, 2022 at 2:18 am

    Excited for countertops!!!

  37. Elzbieta Kachnowski on August 21, 2022 at 2:19 am

Pretty cabinets. I think you should put one more cabinet on the left of garbage cabinet to square off the kitchen, to be in line with island. But anyway very nice project.

  38. Ana Roncon on August 21, 2022 at 2:20 am

I’m SO GLAD you decided to tear down that wall behind the fridge! It was bothering me so much 😆 The kitchen looks STUNNING already!

  39. Anastasia Adams on August 21, 2022 at 2:23 am

  43. Natalie J on August 21, 2022 at 2:28 am

Taking that weird angled wall was SUCH a good decision. It’s such a small thing but it really makes all the difference in your kitchen.

  44. Athina on August 21, 2022 at 2:31 am

New Subscriber….love what you’ve done to the kitchen…I’m excited for you!!! Look forward to seeing what else you and hubby do!!!

I love it all so far!

  47. DLS Dyer on August 21, 2022 at 2:32 am

We wanted feet for our island, instead of a kick plate to achieve a furniture look. The feet were $60 each! We ended up using glass blown paper weights glued onto plywood that then was screwed into the underside of the island cabinet. They were on sale at Old Time Pottery for 99¢ each. We put that $236 saved to use on pot lights.

  48. Cali L on August 21, 2022 at 2:33 am

YAY….I was wondering why you were leaving that angled wall up. So happy you chose to put the fridge flat on the wall. AWESOME What a HUGE difference
I tell folks all the time that bleach does not kill mold. They think because the "color" is bleached out the mold is dead. Tea tree oil is one of the most highly effective ways to kill mold. We just recently had to do a major kitchen remodel for the very same reason. We had water dripping behind cabinets from a faucet. Destroyed all our cabinets, wall board and flooring. We didnt realize it and Ins. Co had to send in water mediation. They said based on the damage that was done, it was "secretly" dripping for many many months. We replaced everything. We reused a few of the cabinets and I removed all the mold by spraying with tea tree oil

    “Pantry phone booth situation” 🤣🤣
Pretty sure I used the same floors on the main floor in our renovation. We’ve had them for over a year now and they’ve held up so well!
