I grew up in the 80s and I remember one of the best things in our kitchen was the phone on the wall with the long 12′ foot cord so you could stretch it out while talking and doing stuff in the kitchen. lol.

For those that sneer at the "ugly" brass from back then you need to know it can prevent bacteria from spreading, and even completely destroy germs and bacteria.

  4. Dawn Michelle on December 22, 2022 at 1:20 am

We were not even close to being well off, but we had a dishwasher before we had a microwave. And it was much faster than today’s dishwashers because they weren’t so concerned with water usage. Only took about an hour to run compared to the hour and a half to two hours now.

And renting movies was definitely mainstream in the ’80s! You could rent a movie and the VHS player in the grocery store.

You must not have been around.

  5. B Rose on December 22, 2022 at 1:23 am

In the 80s we were stuck in the 70s. We didn’t have a microwave until 1992.

  6. Jon medina on December 22, 2022 at 1:24 am

Vertical blinds are the worst invention ever. My whole house has them. They jam all the time, and the top connection point of them is made out of the exact same material as the spider legs on daddy long leg spiders.

  7. Johngregr on December 22, 2022 at 1:24 am

I’m having your channel stalling on both my phone & TV. Love your channel.

  8. Me&TheLittlePpl ! on December 22, 2022 at 1:24 am

    Awwwwwwwww, memories of my childhood………

  9. Tina Watkins on December 22, 2022 at 1:24 am

You can still buy Ginsu knives, I just bought a new set. Love them

  10. john tracy on December 22, 2022 at 1:24 am

My apartment has a dishwasher but except for when I moved in 18 1/2 years ago, I have never used it. It is faster to just handwash the dishes.

  11. Homesteading Ways & Beyond on December 22, 2022 at 1:25 am

It was a sad day when the drip coffeemaker replaced the percolator. I still think they made the best coffee. Got our first microwave in 1983. That things was a beast! It was HUGE. You could easily fit a 20lb turkey in it. Lol.

  12. NJC DAILO on December 22, 2022 at 1:27 am

Loved those glasses with all my fav characters.

  13. HenryBloggit on December 22, 2022 at 1:27 am

So ugly. It’s hard to believe people once thought any of these kitchens looked nice.

  14. Giuseppe Benvenuto on December 22, 2022 at 1:31 am

Guess I’m still in the 80’s. I still have over half the stuff mentioned here.

  15. bonwatcher on December 22, 2022 at 1:34 am

Mr. Coffee brought back some memories of my parents favorite drink. Of course it replaced the previous modern invention… the stove top percolator coffee pot. 😂

  16. J Chow on December 22, 2022 at 1:34 am

Yes!!! Unforgettable!!!! Appliances were very expensive then (because they were still made here). I am using MR COFFEE coffee maker now & everyone teases me about it.
My mom collected yjr mpvelty glasses ….. i always used that popcorn airfryer.
I hated the 80d heavy oak tables & entertainment center but we all had them becuz that was what they sold then.

  17. compactc9 on December 22, 2022 at 1:35 am

Those old dishwashers only take like an hour, the three hour jobs are a more recent thing.

  18. M L. on December 22, 2022 at 1:36 am

So much brass. That trend continued in fast food places into the 90s.

  19. Sharon Benson on December 22, 2022 at 1:36 am

Kitchens had personality and elegance but nowadays, not so much at all. Kitchens now are open space and everything is just bright white and bright white lights. People don’t cook. Everything they know now is Microwave. There Is no elegance now. Just Plain and Cold.

  20. missssophisicated on December 22, 2022 at 1:39 am

OMGGGG..forgot all about those novelty glasses..loved them

  21. Kathryn Stemler on December 22, 2022 at 1:41 am

Circa 2015 I asked for a food processor for Christmas. My dad researched not just the best new food processor but the best of ALL TIME and bought me that exact one on eBay. And it is a tank! Love it!

  22. Paul Wilson on December 22, 2022 at 1:41 am

    Ah yes Venetian blinds.

  23. Mrs. Tweezers on December 22, 2022 at 1:41 am

My friend and I both grew up (early to mid 80s) with carpeted (very low, compact pile) kitchens!! I can’t imagine that today.

  24. Sue Mullins on December 22, 2022 at 1:42 am

I just bought a brass chandelier at a tag sale and I stripped the wiring out , spray painted it and now hanging out on my deck with candles

  25. Kim14 berly88 on December 22, 2022 at 1:43 am

I would give anything to go back.

  26. Cancel19 on December 22, 2022 at 1:43 am

That oil less air popped corn was disgusting. First you couldn’t salt it cuz the salt had nothing to adhere to and when you crunched it with your teeth, you got the sensation of sinking your teeth onto a fresh block of Styrofoam!

  27. Dizzy's Doings on December 22, 2022 at 1:43 am

I still use a drip coffee maker, the microwave we got in the 80s and a hot air popcorn popper.

  28. TheShift1313 on December 22, 2022 at 1:44 am

So many memories! I remember my aunts house having a trash compactor….. along with the glasses from fast food places i remember things like jelly jars having reusable glasses for things like tom and jerry

  29. Marymary Millidweeb on December 22, 2022 at 1:47 am

My first generation Cuisinart processor lasted 20 years maybe 23. And my Braun coffee maker lasted 17 years.

  30. Shir W on December 22, 2022 at 1:48 am

Our 80s kitchen was part 70s… sunshine yellow countertops and appliances (with a dishwasher and compactor) and dark cabinets and the drop down ceiling with lights. Such good memories though… stretching the phone cord across the kitchen to fix a snack while chatting with your bff 🙂 I’d love to go back!

  31. eighmie28 on December 22, 2022 at 1:49 am

Our 80’s kitchen had a built-in cutting board that slid out like a drawer. I never see those anymore.

  32. Mark S on December 22, 2022 at 1:51 am

dishwashers were already installed in homes in the 70s. We had a dishwasher in the 80s and it didn’t work because it was old and broken. the house was made in 74, and it came with one.

Vertical blinds are still common in homes. I work in homes as a business and I am often working around them to this day. So not a forgotten item.

  33. fob1xxl on December 22, 2022 at 1:51 am

We bought a new GE SIDE/SIDE like in the video. Faux wood trim w/water /ice on the door. Replaced the ice maker 5, or 6 times , but it lasted until 2006 and we bought it in 1981 !

  34. john tracy on December 22, 2022 at 1:54 am

Those Empire Strikes Back drinking glasses. We had those but they broke over the years. They’re worth money now.

  35. Paul Wilson on December 22, 2022 at 1:55 am

    Snake: oh no! Beta max.

  36. Jeff Zest on December 22, 2022 at 1:56 am

2020’s…people used cars that ran on gas; people used to drive their own cars; people had HD televisions; most people used to go to work.

  37. Julie Nielsen on December 22, 2022 at 1:57 am

Our kitchen was pretty much the same kitchen we had in the 70s. I think our kitchen cupboards were maple. Just new flooring. And a microwave.

  38. Vikker on December 22, 2022 at 1:59 am

Still have an almond fridge and range from early 90’s. So afraid they’ll give out and I’ll get stuck with white black or stainless 😝

  39. KOB on December 22, 2022 at 1:59 am

Born in the 60s and I’ve never seen fluorescent lights in a kitchen in my entire life. The rest of it seems familiar tho’

  40. misplaced80’sguy on December 22, 2022 at 2:00 am

The best part of the 80’s was 1980 – 85

  41. Vince Parziale on December 22, 2022 at 2:00 am

    When things would last .

  42. Brandy Redden on December 22, 2022 at 2:01 am

Dude I still have my grandma knife set, and use them everyday, I’m 50 lol😂

  43. Lillian La Mantia on December 22, 2022 at 2:03 am

“These blinds came in metal, vinyl and PVC”, LOL vinyl and PVC are the same thing – PVC= Poly VINYL Chloride!

  44. Earl Turner on December 22, 2022 at 2:04 am

I don’t know how you got into my house to take those pictures of my kitchen.

  45. Kelly Bell on December 22, 2022 at 2:06 am

  46. Michaelle on December 22, 2022 at 2:08 am

  47. Joby Fluorine on December 22, 2022 at 2:08 am

Is this minute long ad at the beginning going to be an ongoing thing? I just subscribed today and this is enough to change that.

  48. Allexis Berry on December 22, 2022 at 2:09 am

And my kitchen is there. Currently lol

  49. OLD BAY on December 22, 2022 at 2:09 am

I remember my aunt seeing the 80s modern look, where everything was black and white. The whole home would be painted brilliant white, the furniture would be all black, sometimes glossy with gold accent. I lost it when she said it looked like a mental ward, that only a person that did not know how to cordinate decor would live in that. I must say in her defense, she was an expert in victorian and primitive country decor. Her home felt very warm, inviting and homey. I still use her techniques today….

  50. John Dallas on December 22, 2022 at 2:10 am

This is bullshit. I hAve never seen a kitchen like that in the 80s. Just look at movies from the time.
