Hei, if you do a wood burner vs diesel heater video can you pls include out door temps you have experienced? Ppl normally just say really cold or in the snow and well, you can have snow at -1 and i’ve slept in my van with no heat at that temp… Living somewhere that gets down to -15 sometimes it would be good to know if your experience is useful to compare.
    Great video again and thankyou!

hey mel ive come across videos on youtube where people are refilling smaller gas bottles with bigger bottles infact you made a video showing how to do this .
so my question is i have a 47kilo (propane) bottle not getting used can you fill a 13 kilo patio gas bottle (this is propane also ) obviously at your own risk or do you think this is a little bit dodgy any feed back welcome and hey keep up they great vids love the waffle lol i must admit i prefer them with ice cream lol take care buddy — also i came across a vid on youtube an american guy was using used engine oil and diesel mix in his diesel heater and i was like wtf (by his readings it was pumping out more heat ) lol what do you think of this also love to hear the feedback

Mel, here’s an idea for a video. I may have mentioned this before. Instead of buying a jackery or bluetti battery bank that costs quite a few hundred pounds how about building a DIY version? Maybe a lead acid or gel battery with added 12v/usb sockets ? You get the idea!

  8. RD Music Demos on February 21, 2023 at 7:49 am

Love the content mate. Just a quick question. With the likes of a bluetti or jackery etc. is it possible to fit a permanent solar panel to the roof but wire the connection to a 12v plug attachment or something to be able to plug into the portable power station instead of using a leisure battery setup?

I’m Looking to charge the station when driving by the car 12v cig lighter and then when parked up just simply plug in the station to the solar panel up top.

    Hi 👋

  11. smokinrider on February 21, 2023 at 7:53 am

Regarding jump starting vehicles. The manual will state positive to positive. Negative to chassis/engine.
Your sprinter will also have a positive hook up in the engine bay, so you would never jump to the battery. Modern cars all seem to have this, especially when battery is hidden spaces like boots or under seats.

Never jump car to carb+~+ and -~- This will increase your risk of frying electrics, especially if battery is really low. As the lower the volts the more amps the starter and other systems draw. watts/volts = amps. Eg. 1350w(starter motor)/13.5v (charged battery)= 100A. 1350w/6.75v(flat battery) = 200A
However bear in mind your starter on start up will probably double its standing rate figure so you could be drawing up to 400A. This is what can fry your jumping cars alternator.

Hi Mell..i notice on many van builds most people use wood tongue and groove but wonder is there a benefit over UPVC Plastic Ceiling Cladding apart from cost?

Hi Mel, when I was a panel beater in a approved BMW garage around 2005 we use to jump start using battery packs, but always put the head lights on before connect the terminals. This come about after we cooked an ecu on a brand new M3, four figure repair ££££, Since then I have always started cars that are flat with the lights on, and have faced comments from others saying ”switch the lights off” like I am stupid, I guess my 20+ years in vehicle workshops trumps their knowledge so I normally justify my reasons, yet still people think I am daft. Glad you have bought this subject of power surging vehicles to people’s attention. I can proudly say I have not damaged a car by jump starting batteries since 2005. Ere I also messaged you on Instagram few weeks back asking about your van security, probably in your message request.

Waffle on Wednesday hi Mel I have recently got myself a mwb vw crafter 2015. Any ideas why my diff is making a slight wine at slow speeds? Or at least I think it’s the diff. I have checked it has oil in the diff and it’s full. Hope to here your thoughts and love your Chanel I alway look forward to your videos every week 👍 Matt.

  21. Michael Rees on February 21, 2023 at 8:04 am

Talking of heating your van, I seem to remember that last winter you ran out of gas for your cooker, couldn’t get a full gas bottle, borrowed Becky’s refillable gas bottle which you couldn’t fill as the garage LPG pump failed to work because the temperature was too low. No diesel for your heater and to top it off you couldn’t use the wood burner due to smoke blow back causes by too high a wind. The perfect storm as they say. Hope you don’t line up all the holes in the Swiss cheese this year😉👍

Hi Mel, maybe a question to answer next week. I’m planning on converting a van to become a summer weekend warrior. Do you NEED windows in camper? Or could you get away with a single fan. I’m concerned about the condensation in the winter and the green house effect in the summer, and I saw a previous video you made saying that condensation was attracted to the glass of the windows. Please let me know your thoughts. Keep up the great work.

Hi Mel, it was great to meet you at the overland show thanks for the sticker
I would like to ask if you use a generator,
I have one but I am thinking of buying a Eco Flow Delta pro or should I buy a smaller Eco Flow with a extra battery as we prefer a CL or farmers field with our caravan and an induction hob as the gas can be a problem sometimes
also is there a way of using the solar panel on our van to top it up

Mel, I’ve just watched The Expawers vlog and they’re stuck in Kent with a borked rear axle. I know you’re from that part of the country so wondered if you have any contacts who could help?

  50. Mike Wright on February 21, 2023 at 8:40 am

Mel, The Expawers are stuck in Dover with a bust rear diff and axle. Do you know any Kentish axle wizards that can help or good breakers/reconditioned etc?
