Home Trends Going Out of Style in 2022 + Interior Design Tips

Home Trends Going Out of Style in 2022 + Interior Design Tips

This video is all about home trends that are going out of style as we head into 2021. And I also discuss some alternative ideas instead! Yes, I’m all about design solutions! Trends can be so fickle… one minute, they’re all the rage! And the next minute, they’re overdone and out of date! It can happen really fast so I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these you might feel like you just started to incorporate into your home! But here we are. Trends come and go… it’s not the end of the world. Just the end of the year! And there’s no better time for that old saying… out with old!

Also… just a word of warning. Some of these alternative solutions that I’m suggesting here are really just a way to get you to move away from the trend that’s going out. They’re not exactly new trends that are coming in… I’ll have a video about that soon… but they’re just options for you to consider to get you to move away from these home trends that are on their way out.

I have to admit the first time I watched your video I was annoyed. I have so many things you said was on the way out. It doesn’t matter to me if designers say so. Then I watched it again. I took into account that it is your job to keep up on the trends. My sister had her home Home Design business. I didn’t always agree to her advice for me. Everyone has to make up their minds what they like. Like me if you don’t like to keep up on all the new trends
and like what you have just don’t watch her videos. Move on. She is there for who cares about trends. No disrespect intended.

  2. survey research on April 20, 2022 at 6:52 pm

It’s a popular trend to hate on gray apparently. Can’t wait for that to pass. Makes me want to double up on gray to be honest.

  3. JenaeMarie on April 20, 2022 at 6:54 pm

And…… the obsession with MCM, gold, copper, macrame. Everyone copies everyone else. Think for yourselves people!

  4. Heidi Miller on April 20, 2022 at 6:54 pm

This dark gray kitchen is awesome. It’s really beautiful. She is inventing lies.

  5. james fournier on April 20, 2022 at 6:55 pm

I used to decorate with lots of color and prints but now I have everything in neutral tones. Whites, grey, black, beiges and some earthy colors. But when I want change or jazz things up, I put color with my cushions, rugs and decorative items. I have a mix of antiques and modern. I like to change things around. I do my own thing and when people come to my house they always like how I put things together. Don’t really follow anyones trends.

  6. Asha Kuldip on April 20, 2022 at 6:57 pm

    Great information! Thanks.

  7. Claudia Hansen on April 20, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Nice examples. But I love shiplap! Will put some version of it on the primary bedroom wall behind the headboard. And only there.

  8. RENU KAUR on April 20, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Thank you for all the wonderful videos. Can you pls talk about sofas. Where do you shop for them , which brands and styles are your favorite. What colors to choose.

  9. starlite556 on April 20, 2022 at 6:58 pm

How about everyone just does what they like and does not worry about what is trending . Home interiors are not like sneakers that you can just buy a new pair when some rich person says this is trending now.

  10. Lauri Snipes on April 20, 2022 at 6:58 pm

If you have an old house that has original shiplap, then keep it. I’m all about keeping home period accurate

  11. Dana on April 20, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Hell I’m so far behind on trends, I figured eventually my house will be a trend again! Lol
I keep a clean home, and take care of what I have.

  12. DaxLogan1 on April 20, 2022 at 6:59 pm

I don’t believe in trends/fads in homes or fashion or music. Styles and designs never really leave. Mostly everything comes back. What’s pasé to one is fresh and new to another. Designing your home in any color or all white is up to the home owner. It’s a home because it’s yours. Make it what makes you feel good and comfortable as long as it’s safe. I get that this time of year a bunch of these type of videos will come out. I bet that all the designers won’t say the same thing. As for me I believe life is short and I will make my home what makes it "home" for me.

  14. Katie on April 20, 2022 at 7:02 pm

Im so happy the "farmhouse style" is losing momentum……finally. I can tell it’s losing popularity because for the first time in 5yrs I can shop at Hobby Lobby and find stuff BESIDES huge cow pictures, milk jugs and metal wash racks 🤢

  15. ChiTown on April 20, 2022 at 7:04 pm

As another interior decorator, there are many different opinions. The wainscoting, paneling, etc is beautiful and a mix of wallpaper and wainscoting is also beautiful but has been around for years so don’t understand how this is a new trend. Pocket doors are fantastic especially as space savers and have been around for years as well as glass pained doors. Both beautiful but nothing new. Something to not do in kitchens / bathrooms are cabinets of “trendy” or “pastel” colors like pink, sky blue, mossy green, mixture of wood finishes.

  16. Nancy Cyr on April 20, 2022 at 7:05 pm

    amen! I couldn’t agree more

  17. SharonLismanBaxter12 on April 20, 2022 at 7:06 pm

As my own mother would say, “ if I wanted my home to look like we lived in a barn, we would live in a barn.” 😆😆😆😆 Words of a farmer’s wife. There were several things we did not have in our home ,No fireplaces, shiplap, or when everyone back in the early 60’s were grabbing up all the " ironbed frames". Lol my sweet mother had something to say about all of them and my Dad felt the same way. Good Luck with you channel!!!!

  18. Skimama on April 20, 2022 at 7:06 pm

I can’t imagine constantly changing my home to satisfy whatever the yearly trend is!

  19. Diana Vasile on April 20, 2022 at 7:10 pm

    Love your channel!

  20. Susan Mena on April 20, 2022 at 7:11 pm

So get rid of the cabinets you put in last year. Yea right

  21. Leticia Guerra on April 20, 2022 at 7:11 pm

Im confused. First of all have people really never left their homes since March of 2020? Are people still working from home 2 years since the plandemic? From the pictures i saw if these kitchens if i had either of these kitchens and under covid house arrest I would not complain. They are beautiful!

We redid our kitchen 3 years ago at a cost of $12,000 dollars. Its not a big kitchens, but I don’t have 12k+ to spend every time a bunch of designers that run the industry get a burr up their collective butts and say my kitchen is no longer in style.

These are good ideas if you are planning to remodel, but for those that are slaves to trends, dont let yourself be conned into spending money you don’t have just to keep up with the latest.

  22. Theresa Carmen on April 20, 2022 at 7:13 pm

I hope gray is leaving in all its forms. Color is good for your psyche and all around mood. Can’t live with colors that scream but subtle is nice.

  23. A Smith on April 20, 2022 at 7:13 pm

I dislike the new trend of green kitchen cabinets and gold fixtures. Almost every home renovation show on hgtv or diy is doing this, yuk.

  24. Marie Parks on April 20, 2022 at 7:13 pm

    Don’t follow trends or fads

  25. Blinstrubsgal on April 20, 2022 at 7:15 pm

I held my breath….thought you were going to scratch the blanket ladder (just ordered one) (and risers, too)🤪

  26. Debra Mason on April 20, 2022 at 7:19 pm

I couldn’t agree more! I just discovered your channel, and I love it. I’m always surprised that so many people watch interior design videos, especially ones about trends, if they are going to comment that they don’t follow trends. Trends are not fads… often lasting for 10-20 years (as in ship lap) or longer. After all, Edison bulbs, terrazzo, ship lap, and barn doors were all trends, because you couldn’t readily find those things until they were a trend. Notice you can’t get avocado refrigerators anymore. If you absolutely love an avocado frig, you will have to buy a white one and paint it.
Also, following trends doesn’t mean changing everything out…but as in my case, we are building a new house, and I want to see what trends are. I didn’t embrace any of these trends…I could tell they wouldn’t last long. Luxury vinyl tile is an awesome trend that I think will last the test of time… many people cannot afford to install new hardwood, and LVP looks gorgeous, is waterproof, and no scratches or scrapes. That said, I love hardwoods and would never put it over hardwood.

  27. Genene Cianciulli on April 20, 2022 at 7:19 pm

Thank you, NO MORE barn doors!!!! Love your videos! So much information!

  28. K Kr on April 20, 2022 at 7:22 pm

So let me get this straight, designers push trends, making them popular, which makes them out of style because it is seen everywhere, so they promote something else, which ditto? Reminds me of when clothing designers changed hemlines so everyone had to ditch the old for new. As my mother would say, it makes work for a lot of people. Keep that economy rolling along, courtesy of the designers?

  29. Renee Cormier on April 20, 2022 at 7:23 pm

I have been getting into using color and keep it live and vibrant without going out of style. I understand moving things around to have a different shocking combination as you said.🥰

  30. PaulainSC on April 20, 2022 at 7:24 pm

We have “downsized”. That’s been a hard concept for me to grasp 🥴. I ordered furniture in May and here it is January and still no furniture. Just received word our arrival date has been pushed back to March. Crazy!! I’m trying to be patient but come on!!

  31. Bikerbabe1210 on April 20, 2022 at 7:24 pm

Another trend that needs to go are SUBWAY TILES! I am so darned sick and tired of seeing those things in Every. Single. House. Are there absolutely no other affordable tiles except subway? Holy Rectangle, Batman! Enough already! 😉

  32. Miranda Si on April 20, 2022 at 7:25 pm

Best tips, agreed 💯 I just discovered and subscribed. Time to slowly say bye bye to my excessive love for farmhouse themes. I am getting tire of it too because it’s everywhere. ☺️

  33. ramose83 on April 20, 2022 at 7:27 pm

All white kitchen is still my favourate since 30 years … and they will remain … they can be combined much more easily …

  34. Jess Perna Fine Art on April 20, 2022 at 7:29 pm

I think many people enjoy traditional, fine art painting by artist’s that can draw.

  35. s p on April 20, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Trends are for people who have no taste of their own.

  36. Vicky Burton on April 20, 2022 at 7:32 pm

I have a warm, beautiful alder wood cabinets. They are 20 years old and I love them! I updated my kitchen by updating the counter tops, taking the flower wall paper out and repainting with bright colors.

  37. Nana To 5 on April 20, 2022 at 7:33 pm

What is the wallpaper in the first bathroom in your video? Where can I find it?

  38. Melissa Castelly on April 20, 2022 at 7:34 pm

I’m sorry y’all, I still love me some shiplap 😭

  39. Sehar Khawaja on April 20, 2022 at 7:35 pm

  40. Linda Bright on April 20, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Glad to hear grey and shiplap are going away. I’ve been over it for a while. But agree we should surround ourselves with what makes us happy! Thanks for sharing!

  41. murph123able on April 20, 2022 at 7:41 pm

    Yay! Hate the all white!

  42. 993mike on April 20, 2022 at 7:43 pm

Terrazzo is and should remain a hard NO. It’s too style specific and hard to design around, and draws way too much attention. It won’t do you any favors on home resale either.

  43. So Fly on April 20, 2022 at 7:44 pm

Who are they to tell us

  44. designchickee on April 20, 2022 at 7:44 pm

We all decide in some way or another on the latest trends. It’s a collective ‘we’. And you know what else? You decide what works in your home. One day, even you might decide the colour that made you happy a year ago, no longer makes you happy. That’s a trend in your own life that no longer suits you. See how that works? That’s what happens with trends in design, in fashion, in branding, etc. That’s also how styles and design evolves and changes… Otherwise, there’d be one style of everything and it would never change and we’d all be forced to stick to that one style! We are all constantly deciding on what works, what is popular and then, inevitably, what is no longer popular.

  45. Tina Hillsdon on April 20, 2022 at 7:44 pm

Hang on a minute, just saw a video you posted o 11th April 2021, and your exact words were WHITE KITCHENS WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE, and in this video your saying that they are out of style how are we supposed to take you serious, really.

  46. home maker on April 20, 2022 at 7:47 pm

I don’t get it .who are you to tell others how their private spaces should look. How about you just worry about how your house should look and give your clients what they want in their homes

  47. P Desai on April 20, 2022 at 7:47 pm

Hello beautiful compilation! I’ve already been a subscriber to your channel! I love your content!! I am in the process of renovating my powder room and also paint across the house and looking for some suggestions especially for vessel sink vs regular sink, wall mounted faucet vs sink mounted. How do I get qualified for your design consultation! Thank you!!

  48. Kathy H on April 20, 2022 at 7:50 pm

I still will always love my white country kitchen

  49. Jammin Mammy on April 20, 2022 at 7:50 pm

Never liked the all-white kitchen trend. Not for my house, anyway. Regardless, after much research, sampling, and deliberation, I’m going with Benjamin Moore’s "Weimaraner" for my open-space kitchen cabs. Why? It blends the best with with terra-cotta-ish flooring, and fireplace nook. Looks great against the countertop, too. Trends be damned.
