Younger workers are not going to waste their time driving two hours a day to sit in a box for 8-12 hours.

With inflation running at a four-decade high, Recession is now the ‘most likely outcome for the economy. People are asking how to grow their portfolio to outpace inflation and maintain a successful long-term strategy? I have been searching of investors making about $250k profit in this current crashing market. This is one more reason why you must save and invest to ensure profit and ensure success.

I’ll tell you how. In broad daylight in front of everyone! It’s shameful! I have to pass this particular building on my way to work. I know of it’s habits so I try to avert my gaze. But this one time I accidentally caught a glimpse. That’s when it said , " you can look but don’t touch. teehee". What was that all about? You are the one flashing everyone and you dare assume I’m some sort of deviant? And what about keeping my wife inside you for 8 hours everyday? This is what I have to deal with every single day. Glad you shed some light on it.

This is called society resting on its laurels. Trying to redesign workplace environment as if it’s going to increase productivity in double-digit figures is madness. This kind of mentality is what makes artificial (fake) productivity possible where company CEOs are able raise billions of dollars for a company that has yet to turn a profit solely by using corporate newspeak and social media to pump their yet-to-be products/services. This trend started in Silicon Valley and it is very scary to see it spreading across the globe. Unemployment in the US is 3.9% while inflation is 9.1% (really 15-20%), housing is unaffordable, debt levels are at all-time highs and at a point of no return. How can this be if so many people are employed? The answer lies in the previous statement. Fake productivity spurred on by helicopter money. All that money is supporting unprofitable companies (40% of S&P companies have negative earnings). Fake fortunes (YT, Instagram, do-nothing celebrities making millions), etc. etc. You can’t sustain an steroid economy forever. Every day the bucket go to the well. One day the bottom will fall out.

The office was already becoming obsolete prior to Covid. Since the start of my career… 15 years ago… I have worked with individuals across the country and the world. We’ve always connected and collaborated online and my in-office work has simply been for me to show my face. Everything I do today is on the cloud. My vendors are in different cities. The tools HQ are in different cities!

At my current role, I have coworkers who are in their late 50s/early 60s who are refusing to adapt and change. They act as if this is a new thing… it is not and has been happening for a couple of decades now. Time to progress or get left behind.

The days I go into the office are my least productive due to interruptions from colleagues who just want to stand in my doorway and gab.

  16. Nabil Grid on October 4, 2022 at 5:28 am

Remote work is half a chance half a challenge.
Concerning postive aspects, the main one is time spent in public transportation. Salaries can allocate this time to other activities, like enjoying moments with family, especially in the morning.
Also, this way of working help to increase productivity. Indeed, studies show that time spending doing ancilliary activities is much more important at the office than at home.
Concerning negative aspects, loneliness is definitely a major feature. It can lead to depression for isolated individuals.
Working at home could be detrimental for effectiveness because workers are subjected to forgetfulness.

It is undeniable that this working style is  included in workers habits nowadays. It is even a prerequisite in job searches.
Some people will give priority to working environment than the salary.

  19. Stefan Baluta on October 4, 2022 at 5:32 am

I’m about two minutes in. Those “office designs” are hideous. I don’t want to share a table with someone else, I want at least a little bit of space. How am I supposed to open a confidential email or have a call with any degree of sensitive honesty in an office like that!

  21. Westcork1916 on October 4, 2022 at 5:33 am

Collaborative office space is basically "boiler room chic". Employees have no ability to personalize their space. There is no privacy and it’s difficult to concentrate. Some employees, the ones that are sociable and extroverted, love this format. But introverts are disappointed and leaving in droves.

  22. Tanya Davies on October 4, 2022 at 5:35 am

The only people who have problem with WFH are office politics people. People whos base skill is office politics (which is not at all productive). Also the bosses who like to sit on top of employees are not beneficial with WFH culture. They are the ones who will tell you how WFH is bad and how it should change which is not at all true.
Other kind of people include having undesirable spouse, undesirable home condition, undesirable neighbors. Basically who personal life is f**ked up has a problem for WFH.
Rest of the people are extremely happy with WFH.

I used to work at Zappos and we had a solution for managers, we got rid of them and we were able to do our work much smoother without interruption and without micromanagement. Not to mention the millions the Company saved in manager salaries. At the end of the day people managers are a massive waste of money.

Remote working means measuring progress better not just head counting.
Offices are a huge business for building owners and for service providers, moving away from the office is going to be opposed by them.
In a post-pandemic, the office just makes sense to socialize and for strategy, office day is way less productive than the rest of days.

  29. May Walker on October 4, 2022 at 5:43 am

If companies heat offices and make them nicer environments, a lot of people who can commute by foot or bicycle may be forced to come into the office this Winter as rising heating costs make staying at home miserably cold.

  30. Richard M Todd on October 4, 2022 at 5:43 am

The best investment strategy I ever implemented was buying index funds every time I got paid despite what was going on in the stock market. People get too caught up in the day to day market movements. Better to just buy & ride out the market waves.

  31. Archangel Deltius on October 4, 2022 at 5:45 am

My only concern really with this is the psychological impact that working from home can have. What I mean is the work-life balance may start blending if people are not careful because they work where they live.

  32. Alexa on October 4, 2022 at 5:46 am

The office environment has always. been designed for extroverts and micromanagers which is the issue. Now with a society moving deeper into tech and computer-based work which is normally dominanted by introverts who deal into detail-oriented tasks, commuting to work seems ridiculous if for any reason other than to socialize with co-workers.

No pretty office with perks or free food is going to make up for the hassles of coming in -employers need to understand and stop even trying -period. Also, all these open social sit close to each other work spaces are awful for those with anxiety or ADHD-stop it and understand people want to stay home.

The company I work for did went hybrid for a month it was too challenging for the company to decide who qualify base of employees performances, attendance etc they decided to go work at home permanently. 100% of us work from home. I started WFH since the day I was hired never seen what our company looks like.

  47. edmund price on October 4, 2022 at 6:01 am

If i had a big office, I would give private offices as a perk to higher ranking people and then have a big conference hall where all the employees can meet, most of the working would be done at home, but those with private offices would be given them on a use them or loose them basis

  48. jesus love on October 4, 2022 at 6:03 am

For remote working to be the next norm, cities need to provide better living places. You can’t be productive in a shared flat’s narrow room which you share with a roommate you barely know.
