How I Updated My Oak Cabinets Without Paint by Using Briwax! Easy Budget Kitchen Makeover! Only $24
How I Updated My Oak Cabinets Without Paint by Using Briwax! Easy Budget Kitchen Makeover! Only $24
In this video, I show you how to update oak cabinets without paint by using Briwax! This is an easy and inexpensive DIY kitchen cabinet update on a budget!
*PLEASE NOTE*
1. This is my personal experience. You may get different results. I’m not a professional.
2. Briwax has a VERY strong odor!
3. As others have pointed out, it does NOT work on wood that has a polyurethane finish to it. The Briwax will not stick.
4. I suggest trying it on the back of a cabinet door first to see if you get the results you want.
5. If you have specific questions, you can contact Briwax on their website.

What color you used?
What color did you use? I’m interested in doing my cabinets in a very dark brown.
I love that the fact that you kept the integrity of the wood here. I’m currently looking for a home to buy and so many kitchens have their oak cabinets painted over and it drives me nuts lol
Thanks for this video! Looks like something even I could do!
Thanks for this! I’m flipping a house and wondering how to best clean 1980 oak cabinets that probably haven’t been cleaned since 1990s. Ugh
For all of the imbeciles below all … Who are too lazy to film a video, but want to opine and take cheap shots here… Make your own video … Instead of trying to comment and "one up" this host in her kitchen.
Typical online morons all giving warnings or trying to insult the host.
If you dislike the product, make your own video with your product, no need to lecture her on what she said or did.
Just say thank you or say nothing if you have no useful comments.
You can get the better grade luan, cut it to fit the ends of your cabinets, and you can stain it ! This is what we did .
Great job! I always start my "updates" on a budget, then somewhere along the way my plan goes left! 😩 Lol. I love that you found these budget friendly options to update the look.
No idea how this womans video blog came up. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed her explaining her kitchen cabinet makeover.
Great video hostess and her end result came out attractive.
Thank you for this.
How do you maintain them?
Oh wow it really clings on to the pores and line of the cabinets. Looks beautiful
Hi Emily, my cabinets have been stained should I strip them before using Briwax?
Hello! I recently bought this for my oak cabinets. I wanted to know if you double coated the wax or just once? Thanks!
I have old cabinets from the 70’s I wonder if this would work on making my cabinets lighter? Mine have laminate inserts..so old but don’t want to replace them. I think the outside of the cabinets are birch.. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you for not destroying your wood cabinets. If a person has the budget I’d use modern finishes (dark counters, contrasting backsplash and flooring and black stainless steel appliances rather than ruin natural oak cabinets with paint. That really sets golden oak cabinets off and modernizes the look.
Thank you for sharing 💚💕🥰🌻
This is what I was exactly looking for. Can you please also share how many cabinets one briwax covers ?
How many tubs of the briwax did you use?
Hi! I’ve been reading on the Amazon reviews that after time it wears off…just wondering how yours is doing with time?
Can I use on a dining table
does the surface feel oily to the touch once you have applied the briwax and it has dried?
What about applying product w/sponge brush? Just a thought.
Hi Emily! Does the briwax work on cabinets that have some dullness and more wear than others or do the cabinets have to be in really good shape for this to work correctly?
This looks amazing!! So glad you didn’t paint them!!
FINALLY someone not slapping paint on their cabinets. Sorry cant stand painted cabinets
You sold me on this cabinet upgrade. I’ve researched painting, gel stain, etc and this is exactly what I’m going for. Thank you so much for your very useful tutorial.
Thanks Emily! I did it today. I used Dark Brown Briwax as the Tudor was out of stock. Also replaced door handles and drawer pulls. Very pleased with results. (And my clean sink!)
This product, new to me, really brought out the beauty of the grain in this wood, very good looking, rich! Thank you for showing us how
Thank you. I’m a senior citizen renting in senior housing. I’m doing this to the unattractive oak cabinets.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I am updating on a budget to sell my house. The results are amazing , fresh, and more 2022
My experience with Briwax on golden/yellow oak cabinets:
1) Washed with drill brush (green) and dish soap then dried.
2) Scuffed with scuff pad and wiped down with microfiber cloth.
3) De-glossed (Krud Kutter) and dried with microfiber cloth. Let stand for 10 minutes.
4) Applied Briwax (Tudor brown as well) with caulk paint/wax brush. Let stand for 10 minutes.
5) Buffed out with microfiber cloth. This takes a lot of time.
Labor intensive. Wood grain is very dark, the rest more brown/less yellow. 7/10, pretty good. I really appreciate the video.
Can I do that with a walnut brown glaze instead of that Briwax?
Aww I love this! And was so helpful thank you!
Damn. Wish I would have seen this before I disassembled and sanded 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Hello Emily, I love how your cabinets ended looking like. Is this a permanent solution? Do I have to keep adding this product every time I wash clean my cabinets?
Emily, your cabinets turned out great! I love the color!!
Wow amazing results without sanding ❤️
Probably a stupid question, but can you use a lighter stain on a darker wood? Or would it require sanding and removal of stain in order to restain lighter?
Your cupboards turned out awesome! I’m going to try the same thing this summer! Do you think I should lightly sand them first to get an even finish? Also I wonder if sanding the parts of particle board would help them be darker?
thank you thank you for this. I’ve been looking for a solution to my oak cabinets that didn’t require removing and sanding and you have been the answer to my prayers. thank you so much, I can’t wait to try this.
That is beautiful!!! Job well done!! I added polyurethane to a few of my cabinets about a year ago, wondering if anyone would know if I could do it if I sanded them first.
Thank you all for the support on this video! I’m a tiny YouTuber who simply wanted to share a frugal DIY project that worked well for my home. However, there have been a few concerns that aren’t mentioned in the video. Please read the notes below before deciding if this is right for you and your home.

How many can do you use?
How has it held up?
Thanks. I bought and tried a different product that was supposed to do a similar uplift but it did nothing so I ordered Briwax from Amazon but haven’t found the ambition yet to get going on it. Watching this video is giving me a little more drive.
What a clever idea! I love the tinted Briwax!! I have a few different shades in my woodshop. I have a nice bright kitchen and I am going to try to make new doors. I have the same contractor-grade oak cabinets and, a double-edged sword here, I only have 9 cabinet doors plus 1 corner cabinet (which I hate) lol. Not too many to make but I do wish I had more for storage purposes. I want pine doors made from 1/2" by 3" pine boards. I’m trying to replicate a kitchen in a house I rented in Italy. I have yellow walls but the new yellow will be more golden toned. I already have granite countertops, so I don’t need to change them. I’m looking for a way to change the color of the floor tile to avoid ripping them up. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks for sharing this idea!!
I have the same oak cabinets, yes 1990s vintage. Mine aren’t in as good of shape as yours, they have spots where the original stain has rubbed off as well as the finish. Will this stuff work for mine? Or do I need to sand?
Last year, I actually purchased the same color of Briwax for the same type of 90’s era cabinets. I tried it on one cabinet and didn’t really notice a difference, it also had a very strong smell. So I never followed thru. Painting them is really not inspiring to me so I was seeking out other options when I came across your video. Now I’m inspired again! It’s possible I didn’t apply enough, as I was trying to be safe. So I will try it again on a day when I can open all the windows. Thank you for posting and sharing your process! The only caveat would be that mineral spirits or paint thinner is the only way to remove it, if needed.
It really highlighted the grain in the oak,I love my oak cabinets, they are the exact cabinets I have ,love the video !
Can I use this on painted cabinets?
