First, I love this video and keep referencing it as I’m moving after living with my parents for a year. No roomies to share design ideas with (unless you count my two kids lol) but I have ADHD when it comes to decorating and so many specific elements resonate with me. I also have a hodgepodge of furniture and decor from my old house. I would say my top four design styles are traditional (I love gold/brass accents, ornate and dark wooden pieces, and old-fashioned Persian rugs), French country (I love the neutral/white color palette, distressed pieces, and that old, lived-in feel), and I guess coastal or Boho (I love natural woven rugs and baskets). Maybe I need to pick a style to be my 80 and then another to be my 20…? Or do 80-10-10? Most of what I already have is traditional so that would be my 80. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!!

beautiful.congratulations. I loved this video but I’m still not sure I’m one style.
I’m mostly Scandinavian and I love love IKEA but I also like
Some mid century modern and modern. What to do?

  7. ShemSali on February 16, 2023 at 6:06 am

Thanks for this. I’m really loving Art Deco right now, but also love mint, blush colors. Trying to figure out how to incorporate these has been a challenge.

My thing is I love the rattan pieces but my kitchen table, mantle, and stair case rail is an ebony color… so you think I could still get a rattan tv entryway table??

  10. Beth Hogan on February 16, 2023 at 6:08 am

Ahhh I have commitment issues when it comes to choosing one design style, so 80-20 is perfect for me.

  11. Drew Indy2 on February 16, 2023 at 6:09 am

Great video. What do you think of mostly warm woods in transitional (bedroom), warm woods in farmhouse (X back chairs), and one or two pieces of cool woods in farmhouse and a transitional style? Also, what do you think of transitional furniture in grey, with an accent color throughout the house? (Even different shades of this accent color and also white in the living room b/c there is so much grey.)

I have a boho design style and husband is mid century and we are using black and white around the house. It is new and all the walls were a cool gray which i do not love. Do u have a color palette recommendation?

  16. rachellarisey on February 16, 2023 at 6:19 am

This video is definitely very helpful! My husband is totally a fan of Ikea and modern-style and I love a traditional-style. We are moving soon and we want to buy some new pieces to make our home look great instead of the mismash of furniture that has been handed down to us since we’ve had kids. I know that his home office will be the place where he gets to do what he wants. I’d love to show him this videos so that we can decide where I can have a space and where we can compromise. We already have blue sofas so how can we bring a balance into the living room with a little of traditional and a little modern?

  17. cynthia marin on February 16, 2023 at 6:19 am

Do scandinavian and mid century modern styles fit together ?

  18. Nadiah Abdul Ghani on February 16, 2023 at 6:19 am

Im looking to mix mid century modern (80%) with industrial. Looking at a colour scheme of warm tone wood with black, white. I have difficulty deciding what my feature wall colour behind my warm tone pvc sofa would be. Any suggestions?

  19. Lindsey Sirianni on February 16, 2023 at 6:20 am

This was so helpful! I like modern furniture with boho accepts. I realized I don’t really like boho furniture and I’m glad I don’t have to commit to all one style

  20. Danijela Joksimovic on February 16, 2023 at 6:21 am

Scandinavian and boho in the bedroom 😬 how to do it?

  21. Sandy Makin on February 16, 2023 at 6:23 am

Could you do a video on how to refresh and easily update your existing furniture and decor when you are in retirement and cannot afford to start all over again changing colors and styles. Appreciate it greatly!

Have been bingeing your channel 😆 will you pleeeease create a video on how to make a smallish house (constructed within the last decade) feel like a French castle (elegant yet not too formal chateau)?!? I would love to see how you would do it.

  32. shubdha goyal on February 16, 2023 at 6:37 am

Hi Kristen. I have recently started watching your videos and love them so much. I am moving into my own home in a couple of months and need some advice. I have a big dark brown leather recliner 5 seater sofa and need ideas styling it. The room is all white with white coffee table and white TV unit. Unfortunately at this time I am not in a position to buy new furniture so will have to make do with what I have currently. I will be buying a new dining table, so what you recommend getting that will match the living room style.

Great tips & beautiful pics. I had to keep stopping the video to take in the beauty of the various styles. I think my fav tip was about the color pattern. Definitely needs to be decided on and be sure to stick with it.❤️

Hi Kristen! Was just wondering, if I can combine contemporary with either rustic, or rustic glam? Let me know! Thanks!

  38. Eddie Alva on February 16, 2023 at 6:46 am

Hola, Thank you for your lessons. Love the tip 80/20. I like Old gentleman meets 007 james Bond and Indiana Jones… I have plenty of original museum quality collections of old pottery, silver, bronze, wood carvings, porcelain, crystals, swords, books and yet I want a post pandemic look… For whatever that is.

  44. Suzanne Beam on February 16, 2023 at 6:53 am

Since you offered, here’s my struggle. My boyfriend and I are mixing Art Deco and Gothic Revival. I’ve started by trying to identify common features in both styles and leaning into those, such as rich jeweltone colors, velvet fabric, stained glass, arches, etc. But it’s not going well. Help!

  45. beautyintheskies on February 16, 2023 at 6:54 am

Thanks i was looking for a video that could give me guidance. I am moving to a very old house and we have lots of mismatched pieces but trying to make them work together. I have a cream colored tweed sectional, dark wood tables, and an industrial style, glossy black very modern entertainment center, which doesn’t match at all. There are some family portraits with thick heavy frames on the walls. Im hoping to get a couple industrial style lamps to make the entertainment center blend better with the other pieces. I do like all the pieces but they just don’t match at all. Also I would like to put a bookcase in the corner. Any tips for me? Also a question: any advice for using both a coffee table and ottoman in the same room?

  46. Brooke Vroman on February 16, 2023 at 6:55 am

I am loving your channel and it’s helping me a lot! I am currently modernizing my home by painting oak trim white. I am almost done with the main floor of my home! Challenges I am running into. 1) I appreciate that the homeowner we purchased the house from realized warm tones were out of date and therefore she started incorporating cool tones, however, we have quite the mix of warm and cool tones. It drives me nuts because I am so matchy matchy (yes…we bought the matching bed set lol). 2) I personally like a cozy, warm home, some dark decor elements, scandinavian style as well as industrial….but how do I make that all tie in together?

  47. G D Silveira on February 16, 2023 at 6:55 am

Hello. Do you have suggestions on how to choose the most appropriate mirrors for different rooms according to decor and functionality? I’m renovating my home. From my entryway to my bathrooms, to my powder room to my guest rooms… I’d like to add mirrors. But there’s so much to choose from, styles, materials and so many sizes, I’m not sure what to settle for. And I don’t want an expensive mistake. Can you help?
