Feng shui says no storage under the bed and mirror should never reflect your bed either.
*Add a plant. The greenery helps to calm and to nurture. Plus the oxygen and air cleaning properties of most houseplants. Something like a ZZ is bombproof and beautiful
I love my Brooklinen sheets! I converted to all linen a few years ago and haven’t looked back. I love the soft, rumpled feel of linen and it looks so casual and lived in. My first fitted sheet became threadbare and tore after two years of daily use and Brooklinen replaced it with an entire set, no charge. I’m a devoted customer.
My room is an oddly shaped 10×12 with weird window placement and I just cannot figure out how to make it look nice and it’s a real bummer
Should be called How to Decorate the Perfect Bedroom. Misleading.
“Oh sweetie no” sent me. Love these tips 🤍
Any advice for a bed that has to go along the wall in a room? Don’t have the master bedroom, so room is small. I do have a small walk in closet and window across the the door if that helps😅
I’m super struggling to find bedside tables that I like. They just are all so bleh, or super cheap construction with a premium price tag.
No one brings up the reality of cpap machines and still making it chic in the bedroom ~ this is reality
Ooh, the plant at the end of the bed is wonderful!! Great idea for my next bedroom!
Is it okay to put larger furniture in a smaller bedroom
I am going to redo my bedroom and have the new bed with a padded headboard and new white sheets and a duvet. The room faces north and so not a lot of sunlight, but I thought I would put wallpaper behind the bedhead and something with a touch of silver to maybe create more light?? The room is only 12×12 so not a lot of room to play with, but thinking of 2 new bedside tables with glass or mirror on them to again reflect more light. Do you have any videos on wallpaper do"s and don’t"s. Starting this after the new year
"My phones next to my bed, I’m not gonna lie…" Hahaha…. I love your funny "personal-opinion-comments’ after comments" besides the many things I love about your channel. This is one of the best interior design channels for interior design enthusiasts on youtube that I’ve found, in my opinion, so thank you so much for creating this channel! So glad I found you! Thank you for sharing!
I recently added a task light to one side of my bed. Needless to say, it was one of the elements that really pulled the layout together. It’s next to a small nightstand. A table lamp is on the other side on an oversized nightstand. It balances.
Above the bed is a good size textured ball lamp.
I’m not quite done with the reorganization, but you are right with this asymmetrical look.
As a single man, I have four pillows. I’m in the minority 😂
Does anyone know where I could find the bed frame on the right side of the thumbnail in this video?
Nick are you for or against rugs over carpet?
I’ve been looking for a bed for months and finally saw what I was looking for here 😱 timeline 11:01 Have you an idea please where I can get one similar? 😘
Speaking of warm light – the dawn and dust simulator alarm clocks are great. Besides being a good alarm clock, they can simulate a warm, mini-15 minute sunset right before sleeping.
everyone seems to use throw pillows and decorative blankets on their beds, but i can never do it because it just feels impractical to me to have to move things around every day/night (and my family just never did that when i was growing up). accidental minimalism lol.
So, I recently bought a house of my own after the end of my 25 year marriage. My previous house was modern/minimalist, which was “cool and “slick” but lacked warmth and personality (a bit snarky, but the house was my exes idea and he really kept control of the decor). Anyway, I started to purchase things for the new place before I moved in and according to Nick’s aesthetic, I did pretty well in my new bedroom, which is pretty large). I ticked most of the boxes he mentioned (except for extra blankets on the bed). The look is kind of “girly glam” which I am really liking. After the minimal look for the past 10 years I wanted something pretty and cozy (my motto became “screw modernist, I’d rather be cozy 😏). Wish I could upload a couple of pics and get his (and other’s) opinions. ☺️
I literally cheered when I saw the sponsor (first time I’ve ever done that 😒) because I’m snuggled up under my duvet with a Brooklinen cover, on top of my Brooklinen fitted sheet. Its the only one I haven’t torn a hole in. I’m a bedding freak and I do like their products. As far as designing the bed goes, I think its good to have some really great feeling sheets, because its important to look forward to sleeping. Play around with different materials and weaves (I found I love cotton sateen), but avoid polyester and anything "microfiber," which is always polyester. Read the materials carefully, because deception is extremely common; good cotton sheets are not dirt cheap, so if it seems too good, you should read everything carefully to understand exactly what the product is. Thread count is a lie, anything above 400 or so is probably inflated to seem deceptively good quality; its not that they’re bad per se, but certainly overpriced. I think 400 TC is just fine, and if you pick sateen it feels incredibly luxurious. I think Brooklinen is a pretty good example of a bedding brand that is good quality, honestly presented, and not deceptive, if a little expensive. Their percale sheets are 270 TC, and that is just great! It only seems low if you spend a lot of time looking at dishonestly marketed bedding. Target’s higher end cotton sheets are actually a really fabulous affordable option, though their fitted sheet was one I did rip.
It’s so satisfying when you watch a video on the "DOs" of decorating and you’ve already checked off every box.
I saw a French country room that had a round table covered in a long white linen tablecloth and two delicate chairs, and it created just the most romantic, inviting little as-if-nook for two, breaking up what would have just been long flat wall space. Very lovely.
Sad when these speakers product schill 🙁
Haven’t gotten yet but sure hoping my new very expensive bedding wins in my world.
Please lower your clock!!
Add texture to your bedroom in the form of a furry dog. ❤🐈⬛
I’ve been looking for a suitable reading lamp for the bedroom for quite some time. We have a low slant behind the headboard and different bedtimes.
I only use 100% cotton sheets because I like the feel. I used to only do white but I think think they just look cold. Now I use colors (not red) and I think they make they make my bed look cozier. All those extra pillows look immature. I finally have a large bedroom so I got some substantial nightstands. However I’m a clutter-bug so they always have way too much junk on it.
Getting down to basics…. Should the room where people sleep be the same room where people have sex? What if, in an ideal world where you can have as many rooms as you want, there was a room that was calm and comforting and then there was another room that was exciting, stimulating, horny-making. How would these rooms be designed?
At 6:15 the black chair on the right (not the one for the built in desk…. ) Anyone know what it’s called? I love the shape of that chair.
That’s also why I don’t like overhead lighting in bedrooms. Feels like the sun is high in the sky and the day is half over.
Since we’ll be moving to a new home soon I was looking for inspiration and came across your channel. Love all the useful tips and insights! As for the new bedroom, I would LOVE a rug underneath the bed, but our bed has drawers (on tiny wheels) because we need the extra storage space (the only closet I have is a beautiful but tiny antique wardrobe). Do you think a rug and drawers/ wheels work together?
I seriously appreciate how practical you are. I am not going to be able to remodel this place since I’m renting! I want a nice place tho. So many designers seem to cater to rich people with no limitations.
Hi nick 😀
Do you video on a floor plan or sketch up how to create a new bedroom in a cottage with a dog 🐕
I am doing a reno in my bedroom. The room is only 12×12. I have a queen size bed with 2 side tables. I am removing the original huge mirror popular years ago and getting a round one that will be on the wall opposite the bed. But my question is I would like crown mounding just to give a bit of style however Rona and Home Depot don’t even carry it anymore so can I assume it’s out of style? I have waited so long to get a new lovely room and don’t want to send it back in time. What are your thoughts.
Nick – Preach! My parents still have sheets (and blankets and pillows) from before I was born — I’m 42. I recently visited them and the sheets they used to make up the guest bed were for their California king bed and the guest bed is a full size. Also, my dad kept arguing with me that the guest bed is a queen size and not a full. This combination of madness broke me a bit and I insisted that we clean out the linen closet and re-organize it. My parents have been in their house since 1984, and this was the first time they ever went through the linen closet – EVER. Anyway, very proud that I was able to get them to part with some of the old linens. I then bought a brand new set of sheets, pillows, and quilt for the guest bed (it is a full size mattress). My parents now use the guest bedroom to nap in.
Great video Nick! I was happy when you touched on the subject of asymmetry in bedroom decor (and that dark one WAS a gorgeous example). Question for you: I have a queen bed with 2 identical nightstands, i.e. very symmetrical,. I thought this was following feng shui rules and design rules in general. However lately I have been yearning to get rid of one of the nightstands! Not sure why- I’m solo so I don’t use the second nightstand (except as a mini storage unit), and I might actually like some asymmetry.
(Side note: I don’t think you use feng shui but FYI having 2 nightsands was supposed to "make room" for a significant other. No such luck and I’ve had them for 6 years – haha)
Would love your valuable input on this.
For the last couple months I became obsessed with good quality linen bedding, I found a great website and I finally bought them, I always disliked polyester bedsheets so much and I’m not coming back to that ever.
I’m in UK. Your bed is about the size of my bedroom. !! But the overall ideas transcend over the pond , so thank you.
I need a place for my CPAP, lol.
Does someone know where i could find lamp 10:03? ??
Good Evening Nick,
Since I have discovered you via Utube, thank them, you have one more follower!
Caveat to all the viewing of your videos, and I have watch 3 in two days. Love, love,
and completely Adore all your design common sense. We are so on the same wave length!
That is all I wanted to tell you. Please know there are many decorators and I know and have met
some. But for my 2 cents worth You Babe have got it going on! Keep up the good work. I am
enjoying your opinions they jive with mine, and I am a very strong and opinionated individual.
So about design or anything that sort of alignment and agreement — just never happens. Applause, Applause!
I have to be able to see in my room, especially when I’m cleaning. So, warm light for table lamps and cool light for overhead fixture. Cool light with a dimmer is good, too.
Can’t wait to play with asymmetry in the bedroom, like you said 😉
We do not see enough of the pooch…
That one very neutral bedroom with the dark framed window just needs a large neutral colored dog on the bed, re: Wyeth.
Lol sheets and underwear expiration dates!
No mirrors, even though I’m not into fengshui, they say do not put a mirror in your bedroom. If this is your main bedroom of the house, that means you have a main bathroom probably nearby or attached. There’s usually a huge mirror in that bathroom.
