Hello! My name is Evan and this is my guide to off-grid electrical systems for any camper van or RV. I designed and built this van with the help of my dad. This van is completely off-grid with a fully self-sustaining electrical system. I also design and built the Mercedes Sprinter van that you see in the video too. It has a 3000W inverter and 480W worth solar panels. It can run an air conditioner while off-grid because of the big lithium battery bank. I lived out of my Nissan NV200 for a whole year in San Francisco and currently live in Santa Cruz.

Really good run through. First of all seeing the thumbnail I thought this was going to be an overcomplicated video but you explained everything step by step and went in to detail so thank you for that.

Great video here. Very informative. Love how you explain things and easy to understand. Could you please make a video on how much it costs to build this set up. Thanks and stay positive.

  10. Gloria Jackson on August 15, 2022 at 3:36 am

Evan..you explain things so well and I’m not considering living in a van however your chanel and explanation πŸ€” will help so many people. Thank you.

You mentioned about the DC-DC charger between lead-acid and lithium power banks. So why there exists the Automatic Charging Relay in your system? Is it compatible still? If not, it should be removed, right?

Awesome job! Off the subject, but can you tell us what you used to create your waterproof shower boards we saw in one of your short video’s please? It would be useful to add it to your build Inventory list too! Thanks!

Lithium exploits the earth way too much and it’s not disposable.

  18. Billy Tan on August 15, 2022 at 3:47 am

    Hi Sirs,

All those components to build the system, where did you purchases from?

  19. Love4Life on August 15, 2022 at 3:47 am

The only AC DC I know is a rock band in the 80’s!

  20. edthelazyboy on August 15, 2022 at 3:48 am

For many newer laptops with USB-C PD support, you could get a 12 volt DC to USB-C PD charger and skip the inverter all together. The conversion from DC to AC and back to DC would surely have more losses along the way. Also, I think it would be a good idea to carry a power bank so you can charge it while in a coffee shop and bring it back with you to the van.

Very talented electrical expert, thankyou for sharing your electrical knowledge with us.

  31. Michael Smith on August 15, 2022 at 4:01 am

QUESTION: Did you consider carrying back & forth a small battery and charging at work or at Starbucks?–Some of the devices have built in solar panel connection, MPPT, and AC & usb plugs. (I’m specifically thinking of a Goal Zero Yeti 1000w ~$1500). Would you consider the battery portability a good feature?

  32. The Mystical Experiencer on August 15, 2022 at 4:02 am

I use a Jackery. I’m going to be buying a 1500 Watt soon.

  33. Michael Self on August 15, 2022 at 4:02 am

You’re very good in front of a camera, Evan. You have a great voice for this. Your voice is soothing to listen to.

Wouldn’t a second alternator for a house battery provide all the electricity you need?
