Thank you so much sir for this really easy to understand video ! I’m a Registered Master Plumber for a living. I have a fiberglass tub/shower that I installed a couple years ago, so that’s staying. The floor used to be Terrazza with 4" thick concrete with lead drains encased in the cement. I completely removed that floor, and since the joists were peaked, I sistered new joists next to them. I then put 3/4 wolmanized, then 1/4" luan, then rolled linoleum. My question is, after I remove the linoleum, do I need to remove the 1/4" luan too, or can I floor over it ?? The rest you explained brilliantly ! Thank You !

If you like mold, mildew and rotted subfloors then this is exactly what you should put in your bathroom or kitchen.

A half bath isn’t as big of an issue, but if there’s a tub/shower you’re asking for trouble installing this crap flooring in that bathroom or kitchen. I don’t care what the manufacturer says about it being "waterproof", it’s absolutely not. This type of flooring is big in the box stores because it’s marketed for the DIY home owner, but installing it in kitchens and bathrooms is really not a good idea.

I’ve been doing flooring for a long time and I’ve seen my fair share of rotted floors. Just understand what you’re doing, most diy folks don’t see the long term damage this stuff will cause.

Great introduction. On recommendation, remove doors if possible to speed up.

  10. Manuel Guzman on April 6, 2022 at 7:04 pm

Hello. My wife is worried about me pulling out old vinyl floor in our bathroom to install new Mohawk vinyl flooring and would rather me install the new floor on top of it. Is there any downside other than having to adjust the toilet ring?

P.S. Your videos are some of the easiest and best made for DYI people. Thanks.

I spoke to a contractor today and he suggested to install vinyl plank on my old peel and stick tiling. Any problems if we do that way?

  14. Sam S on April 6, 2022 at 7:06 pm

    professional work

  15. Jim Lewandowski on April 6, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Been replacing our flooring and using your vids for reference. Concise and straight to the points.
Wouldn’t it be easier to install baseboards before the toilet in the way?

  16. Nathaniel Russ on April 6, 2022 at 7:08 pm

Question… Do you need to leave an expansion gap on all four walls? It looks like on one or two sides of the room you didn’t have a gap.

  17. Jorge De Jesus Negron on April 6, 2022 at 7:08 pm

    Good Job 👍❤️👍👍❤️

  18. Kirk Johnson on April 6, 2022 at 7:09 pm

Thank you. I am just about to purchase and install VP flooring. I have been wondering what to do when I get to the toilet. Your video answered my question perfectly.

  19. Maria das Graças Oliveira on April 6, 2022 at 7:10 pm

Do you know about the vinyl plank floor using a glue???

  20. Reighn Drop on April 6, 2022 at 7:11 pm

Tip: Pop out the pins in the hinges and remove your bathroom door. Will prevent accidental damage and will give you more room to work. IMO

  21. Phat-motoXer on April 6, 2022 at 7:12 pm

Be very careful when removing older tile and linoleum because some of the older stuff may be asbestos

  22. AJ Syed Ali on April 6, 2022 at 7:12 pm

why do you need the spacers?

  23. Genelia Smith on April 6, 2022 at 7:14 pm

It’s definitely of a good help! Thanks for sharing! But I would rather hire any residential flooring contractor to do this task for me than doing it myself! Because they can better assist us in everything. There are so many residential flooring contractors these days, one of them is Wayne Maher Hardwood Flooring. His speciality is, he provides free in-home estimates for flooring installation, repair, or restoration.

  24. Philip O'Shields on April 6, 2022 at 7:14 pm

That is a great explanation. Thank you.

  25. Jeff Coleman on April 6, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Hook blades and little heat work the best for cut outs

  26. Koko Loko on April 6, 2022 at 7:21 pm

Thank you, well explained video,I can’t ask for more.

  27. Pjmjd Murdach on April 6, 2022 at 7:22 pm

Man my bath needs all this done very badly! Would you please come and fix it!! You are so good. 😀

  28. edwin rodriguez on April 6, 2022 at 7:23 pm

Great install. Though, I removed the LVP from my bathroom today and confirmed my suspicion; water from bath/unexpected toilet overflow will travel under the lvp and stay there for a looong time. If you install it over subfloor, expect o find mold after a couple of years under the lvp. I’ll be replacing the vinyl plank with tile. Good vid!

  29. Tony Musolino on April 6, 2022 at 7:24 pm

Excellent video. Precise instructions. You made it look simple. But believe me, it’s not as simple as it looks.
    2 rules…1-measure twice, cut once.
2-go slow…do not rush. And it will pay off.

  30. Dayne Hunt on April 6, 2022 at 7:24 pm

Don’t be a cheap a$$.. bathrooms and kitchens should be tilted to prevent water damage… toilet overflows once and your replacing the entire floor

  31. Cdman AHolmes on April 6, 2022 at 7:26 pm

You should have taken the door off at the beginning so you dont mark or scar it

  32. Star Light on April 6, 2022 at 7:26 pm

This is like seeing but you are dealing with electric sew!

  33. Robbie Moreland on April 6, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Wouldn’t it have been easier if you had taken the door off?

  34. JP Barbosa on April 6, 2022 at 7:28 pm

The results are good, but the method take so long,it’s 30 min job,the hall, bathroom and laundry

  35. Roger Negrete on April 6, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Instead of being a rapper were a tapper.
Today.o happy day,o happy day.when I tapped all my ugly floors away.,

  36. Ben M on April 6, 2022 at 7:31 pm

All that work and you installed an ugly “worm” toilet. Those have to go already.

  37. Jeff Coleman on April 6, 2022 at 7:32 pm

Great video! Chaulk lines is all I use

  38. Jessi Lewis on April 6, 2022 at 7:34 pm

I’m sorry, but why the hell would someone put peel-and-stick over actually tile floors? That’s almost as big a sin as carpet over original HW 😱

  39. GGG on April 6, 2022 at 7:35 pm

Did you put expansion gaps on the sides?

  40. Robin Rummel on April 6, 2022 at 7:35 pm

I’ve been watching a lot of videos on how to do this and your’s is the BEST one I’ve seen! Thank you for the details, links to even more detailed vids and for NOT going so fast I would have to replay to catch everything!! You made this look easy. Thanks for explaining everything you were doing.

  42. Justin Hales on April 6, 2022 at 7:37 pm

That is not peel and stick. It is regular sheet vinyl.

  43. Luis Tello on April 6, 2022 at 7:37 pm

    Very nice job and informative.

  48. J P on April 6, 2022 at 7:44 pm

How do you hide the seams where the plank an tub meet?

  49. Ashley Boudreau on April 6, 2022 at 7:46 pm

I actually just came across this video accidentally and I’m so happy I did because my bathroom floor has been left unfinished for way too long now, it drives me insane every single day but your explanation and how you showed everything very clearly and in simple terms has me feeling confident that I can do this myself (at least decently enough to last until I can afford to have someome do a better job 🤣). I’m a single mom with 2 young kids and work full time so I don’t have a ton of time to mess around learning this kinda stuff in depth but this definitely seems doable! Thank you so much for all this great info, I’m super excited to not hate my bathroom!!
