You don’t want to hear my opinion of the AIA’s standardised, box ‘design’.

Ya know, I think it’s cool that you didn’t try to put the negotiation screws to the lady you bought the house from.
But you paid $445,000 for that thing, that seems a little steep especially for Texas.
I’m up here in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State and that’s what we would probably buy that house for the market up here is insane house costs and rent through the roof here.
I’m not trying to get all up in your business or anything like that but why did you pay so much for that.. in the condition that it is in ?
Anyway cool start of the series I’m looking forward to seeing all the episodes.

3 minutes in.. this was never going to be cheap. I know everyone wanted budget build. And he said it would be. But really this house needed loads of help

19:40 begins the answer to the comment section. As well as the usual flow of such projects, as he gives examples he’s encountered.

Edit: 12:50 he’s mentioned hiring an architect and interior designer. Read the comments. Video isn’t worth finishing.

Videos like these is why the dislike count needs to be shown. The title I’m interested in. But I’m not sure I should be investing the time to actually watch it.

BTW, this home is very similar to mine. Was really looking forward to a realistic and thorough educational series.

OMG you went from a MiddleClass remodel to a 1% remodel!

What did you finally end up doing on this house?

  11. Storm wulf on June 21, 2022 at 11:00 pm

Why did you have to take a mid-century house and turn it into yet another McMansion piece of shit??

  16. Yuliya Bryant on June 21, 2022 at 11:08 pm

Middle Americans will not by house for 400k. Too much talk and bragging.

  17. Neil Sullivan on June 21, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Yeah, real remodel on a real middleclass budget, HAHAHAHAHA! Then he tells us he plans to spend between $70,000 and $100,000, SO not real middleclass budget. Oh and he paid almost half a million to buy it. Oh yeah, every middle class person I know has that kind of money just laying around. I wish just one show somewhere would start with a house that was bought for less then $100,000 and has maybe half that at most for a remodel budget. Closer to $30,000 would be more realistic

  18. R S on June 21, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Why do people pronounce foyer as foi-yur? Makes me chuckle.

  19. ArmandoVideos on June 21, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Those HGTV shows have around the same budget. with time frames up to 7 weeks.

  20. Joshua Phillips on June 21, 2022 at 11:10 pm

Watching this after seeing it almost done there is no way this was a $100k reModel lol. I’m good with it though. Dude, hells yeah 10x it. I do the same on my house. “Ohhh we can just paint the room. Buy a can of paint….or….starts the tractor and adds 1200 sqft. Used the paint 2 years later for accent walls.”

  21. The DeCampers on June 21, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Taking an interesting house and making it look real boxy and plain.

    445 in texas? I can’t believe it.

This architect is adding a 100k for no reason other than aesthetics

  24. Natural Healing on June 21, 2022 at 11:14 pm

House if full of mold. HVAC bring it through the house.

  25. computerkid1416 on June 21, 2022 at 11:15 pm

I’m the guy that would keep the interior mostly intact, it looks like most of the work that needs to be done is on the outside.

These are my favorite types of houses

  27. alex on June 21, 2022 at 11:18 pm

Says he remodels 2-5 million dollar renovations.

Says he’s going to do it on middle class budget.

Spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on it!!!!

  28. Carlos Acosta on June 21, 2022 at 11:19 pm

Hey Matt I am a big fan of your videos. I live in Venezuela and I am also a certified architect. I woul do this project for u for free if you thown me once in a while some work. Another ButtMunch Changing historical homes don’t buy a decade Home to destroy it

  30. compactc9 on June 21, 2022 at 11:24 pm

Its interesting, one of my customers bought a house out in the country expecting to do an extensive remodel. Just like Matt, once they tore into it, between all the problems and the extreme amount of pest excrement, they tore the thing down and started over!

  31. Ace hamka on June 21, 2022 at 11:26 pm

I like the way you started the video, Alot of people could actually relate but don’t pretend like you care about the middle class. Most people pull loans to renovate their home and are stuck paying it off for years

  32. Audra Hoertz on June 21, 2022 at 11:28 pm

Mold poisoning is real.. I feel so so sorry for the previous family who lived in the mold and rat feces. When I saw the son’s room w the holes in the wall, I totally understand. CIRS, PANS, mold toxicity is no joke. I hope they recovered from that.

  33. Cross on June 21, 2022 at 11:28 pm

anytime u see trees near a crappy old house, u know it’s gonna be bad.

  34. Maria Dryna on June 21, 2022 at 11:29 pm

Did you say $45,000 or $445,000?

  35. Megiddo Eubanks on June 21, 2022 at 11:31 pm

Bigger and better than what I’ve ever lived in. Wow. Okay, then.

  36. Hello! on June 21, 2022 at 11:31 pm

Matt is showing ignorance about mold. Why is he replacing drywall that got wet without correcting cause on it getting wet

  37. namAehT on June 21, 2022 at 11:32 pm

One year later he’s torn the house down to the slab, rebuilt from the ground up for probably 3x the price of the original sale value, and has decided to move into it.

So much for a "real remodel"

  38. Chris Demeur on June 21, 2022 at 11:33 pm

I may have missed what you paid for this house. I hope it got it for a song because the renovations you propose are pretty pricey for a middle-class budget. I just completely redid my 1st floor (including the kitchen) for under $30k by doing a lot of the work myself. I did hire out some of the electrical and plumbing but mostly my doing. Estimates from contractors were over $100k.

  39. Peter Walsh on June 21, 2022 at 11:33 pm

What happened to cause a demolition of the whole house ? A $ 100k Reno to a new house costing $ 600k . Peter W

  48. Veevslav1 on June 21, 2022 at 11:43 pm

    $75000 – $100,000 budget… Yet talks about the expense of moving a wall…

  49. ScienceBitch on June 21, 2022 at 11:44 pm

With the mold, redoing all floors, siding, fixtures, drywall everywhere, roof, windows, bathrooms and kitchen, HVAC, hiring architect and interior designer, structural engineer, relocating interior walls, this would be WELL over 100k in the northeast even if you did a lot of work yourself. Wouldn’t touch this house.

  50. Sawyer Helming on June 21, 2022 at 11:44 pm

I like my 70s house because of things like preheat t12 fluorescent fixtures, outdated bathrooms (yes I like the outdated design lol), the old growth wood and the separate garage so no needing to lock the door between the house and the garage
