This week, we visit a 3-room resale HDB flat in Bugis that was built in the 1970s and is over 40 years old at this point. Homeowners Klaire and Douglas were attracted because of the condition of the place, as it was very airy and bright. Being located in Bugis also meant that it was convenient, and they had good framed views of the cityscape as well.
The theme of the home is a mid-century modern style but done up in a minimalist fashion. Hence, despite it being a 3-room HDB of 732 square feet in size, the space does feel bigger than it is on paper. They chose a combination of vinyl and tiles for the floor – with vinyl from Belgium to take up the living and dining areas, and tiles for the kitchen and bathrooms as they wanted something more practical.
From their dining area, the wall was taken down and a sliding door put in place that spans from one end to the beam in the centre. As such, they are able to both compartmentalise and open up the space as needed. One of the interesting features of the home is due to the beam, which might have been an eyesore for some but they’ve turned it into a distinguishing feature instead with the archway.
Special thanks to Klaire and Douglas for showing us around their lovely space.

That’s a beautiful apartment, but it’s not Mid-century Modern, it’s just Modern or Contemporary.
nice but i wonder if it’s easy to sell the house if you hack down a bedroom wall.
Nice space but this isn’t mid century modern at all…
nice sliding door! Can I know how much did it costed for the carpentry work for sliding door? thanks.
place is decently designed but it doesn’t embody the real mid-century designs, so the term is a bit of misuse here.
Love this
i love this house so much…. so well done!!
Hi may I know the laminate used through your the house?
What a beautifully done up house! Love the idea long kitchen top with no top hung cabinets!
Is this in Singapore?
Love the living room sofa. Low and slick. Where is it from?
HDB can have cats?
Is Reuben ever coming back?
LOVE THIS
CATS!!!!!!!!!!
Who knows what is the name of background music?
Very nice but definitely don’t see how any major cooking can be done with something so open. Haha.
May i know the renovation cost of this?
does future property value matters if that’s your "forever home" already?
Could I ask who the Interior Designer is ?
love the vibes
Dang, bugis sia😍
the absence of hanging cabinets in the kitchen makes it so clean and peaceful.
Stacked and Singaporeans vocabs are as follows…minimalist, minimalism, modern, clean lines, mid century, Japanese, tropical, peranakan, removing walls, sliding doors
Regardless i like the house or not, as long as i see happy cats, i press like, if i see caged cat, i press dislike.
please catproof your house. jesus
Love the night views from the bathroom
Don’t know why I seem to like this owner’s taste. The moment you enter the unit when they welcome you in, you can tell how fresh and breezy it is. This will definitely be how my first choice of home concept for my first house and not forgetting the cat abode
Great location which is why it’s value doesn’t drop regardless of its remaining lease. HDB flats in non-prime locations would’ve faced significant depreciation with half balance lease.
Nice Belgium vinyl. It gives it the more natural woody look compared to many others. Great Choice!
Loved that they made cat holes in the cabinetry. And Klare is beautiful 😍.
I can see the two little kitties are so happy!
Same Layout as my house
Is it at Tanjong Pagar area?
Suggest future videos to show both the original and new floor plan. This apartment has been converted into a one-bedroom, and bedroom2 is now the dining area? Showing the new floor plan gives good/factual reference as to how/ how much the space has changed.
I like the minimalist feel without the "coldness" which minimalist style usually exudes. The use of dark wooden colour balances it out. Nice. The kitchen counter top and the table can work doubly hard besides their intended use. Doubly nice.
I agree – the house looks really nice at night with the proudly Singapore view. That’s the kind of home you wanna go to at end of the day.
One of my favourite homes in this channel

I feel like the cat furs really enhance the design of the house itself. Haha
Good idea for the cat hole. Love it! And wht do they called, btw way? Gender? Hehe… the cat melt me down…
even the cats blend with the interiors
They have made a wonderful home. That is the specialty touch I feel in this home.
It’s nice, but it’s neither Mid-Century Modern, nor is it Minimalist. A more fitting title for the style would be just "Modern".
What a lovely couple and home!
