I’ve Lived in a Vehicle for Three Years. I Now Have $150K

How much can you save by living in a vehicle instead of paying rent? In this video, I breakdown my expenses of living in my van vs living in my SUV vs living in my old apartment. Hopefully this financial overview will give you an idea of what costs to expect, and how much you might save by living on the road.

Your rent is unbelievable. Rents here in the Netherlands are around 1200,- euro p/m and that is in the commercial sector.
If your house is subsidised it is between 400,- and 700,- euro’s. And if you are rich enough to buy a house morgage is between 500,- en 1200,- euro (average)
Are the salaries that high in Canada? The average wage here is about 36.000 euro

Although I love the fact that you can save now and van life feels free, it is kind of sad that rent has become so high that we cannot obtain a full, free "western" lifestyle while living in a house. In the Netherlands to be able get a mortgage you have to bring atleast 40.000 (villages) to 200.000 euro (Amsterdam and big cities) of your own saved money to get a mortgage of 450.000 and above.
    Our financial system is failing.

Interesting! Thank you for your honesty. We have similar lifestyles but I spend double what you do on food … hmmm?

  14. BagznBirdz on March 29, 2022 at 6:34 pm

Didn’t you have home insurance? That would make the insurance bill for living in an apartment bigger. I pay over 200€ a year for home insurance. Been thinking about moving into a caravan for a while. A friend did the move a couple of years ago and she’s been happier than ever.

You are really doing great and keep the good work and good bless you

  16. Ascension 669 on March 29, 2022 at 6:35 pm

heck for that apartment a month you could of bought a house. or move somewhere else where apartments are cheaper and probably have more space.

How do you handle getting mail? Do you have a p.o. box?

  18. T C on March 29, 2022 at 6:36 pm

How do you manage medical checkups/doc visits? Do you keep Pacific Northwest home base physicians? Or just do doc in a box? A non smoker, eat very well, and look to be in great shape.

  19. Dillon Garcia on March 29, 2022 at 6:38 pm

Great video! I’m considering when I move back to SoCal to live out of my ‘16 4runner with my rooftop tent because buying a house is so insane with prices right now.

Do you ever have nights where you feel like you have no where to go back to or call home? That’s something I’ve been thinking about. Or do you eventually accept and embrace the van(vehicle) life and you’re a camper full time? 🤠

If i lived in a van my problem would be ventilation as I’m lactose intolerant and fart non stop. A spark could cost me my van depending on what i had for dinner.

I really want a storage unit but it seems liek even the small ones are expensive. I live in CT, maybe I need to look around. Less than 30$ is a really good deal if you really need a place for your things that you really cant part with.

I would never broadcast to the world I drive around with $150K unless I’m armed to the teeth ready to protect the loot. I don’t mean to judge, but I’d be amazed if this woman carries a can of bear spray at the most.

This person isn’t sincere. These are not her experiences. She’s nothing more than a POS influencer, actress reading off of a cue card.

I just sold my business and I am about to hit the road for awhile. I used to live in Alaska and I am going to travel the west and maybe back to Alaska for the summer. I have no desire to be a suburbanite. I need open space. I love your channel and your attitude. Happy travels.

  43. bikesbeersnbeats! on March 29, 2022 at 7:07 pm

What was the cost of your fully built out van? The promaster you’re currently in has a really nice setup and its cost should be included in your calculations. You have to have that capital upfront and then account for the depreciation of the vehicle as you use it. With renting you have initial deposit but you should receive that back when moving out and there is no need to have over $80k+ up front capital.

I’m 63 and a lot of young people are doing this these days.
I can’t say I blame them. Especially these days with the price of rent.
