This is a comprehensive guide on how to start living in a car. It really isn’t as bad as you may think as long as you have a good plan. I lived in a van in San Francisco for almost the entirety of 2019 and I draw a lot of my experience from my time there.

I’d do this but I’m 6’5 and barely any videos address tall people
Nice video
Don’t forget, you’ll get pulled over for that tint in some states. Like NJ.
How much do you spend on gas every month now?
brother how do u dip the pickle
Really watch out with propane heaters – some are not safe for using indoors as they eat all the oxygen and then you get drowsy, fall asleep and die of asphyxiation.
Awesome. One of the best videos on how to live the van life. Very well done.
I love how you Emphasize the importance of community friends familiar faces having a sense that you belong somewhere.A lot of people that do this nomadic van life don’t last very long because it’s incredibly lonely and that’s not healthy
I´ve always wanted to go back to San Francisco. Now with this video, I´m so excited!! I have no doubt I´ll do it.
i have spent some nights by choice to stay in my car, and i remember every night was freezing cold and in a blizzard and it was christmas, i have not since i blew out the abs swerving off the road, its not registered and cannot park somewhere that might attract the police cause they will write a ticket and it will jack up the insurance
Just a tip. Front tint is illegal in every state. Sure you can probably get away with 80% or less but just a heads up.
For the colder nights, I recommend going to a second hand store and finding MERINO wool clothing products. They retain body heat very well!
You only live once. Why the fuck would you want to live like this? Move to a lower cost of living state and live like a normal human.
What if it’s 2 am and you need to use the bathroom and no businesses are open?
It would take about an hour out of my day to drive to Planet Fitness for my daily shower. When Planet Fitness is closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I would not get a daily shower which was kinda of depressing. I also learned to brush my teeth and spit the toothpaste water back into a plastic bottle. Heat become and issue and I bought a buddy type of heater and would run it with the windows cracked in my cargo van until about 4am and then I would go to sleep with the van all warm and toasty. Even buying some candles can provide a little bit of heat. Anyone thinking of doing this lifestyle, I would suggest you buy a portable toilet for about $50 just in case you ever have a 911 dooky problem. Sleeping in the 19 foot cargo van was much better than the car because it was like I had my own little room with some privacy. I learned this lifestyle is not for me, but I wish the best to other people trying it.
What’s the best remote jobs I always find scams online
Keep in mind that its illegal to tint the front driver window and windshield in many states 😳
what camera do you use it?
Very intelligent guy subscribed.
Is it safe to live in a car?
I got a wife and kids. Maybe in another life lol . I want to, so bad, to get a class b snd roll around the USA.
Those propane heaters are for outside use where there is air circulation, such as in a big garage. In a small space like that the fumes would overcome a person quickly. They are not made for use in small, enclosed spaces because there is nowhere to vent the its "exhaust", for the lack of a better term.
Where’d you get your custom window covers? I have a 2017 Ford Escape. Thanks.
SANTA CRUZ!
This is a great video. Very sound, realistic and practical advice.
Sad, just sad this is what we have come to.
8:23 Note that anyone can GoogleMap the CMRA address and see that it is a mini-mall and know that this is not a real residence.
But still your still homeless and its a bad image if your an uncle, aunt, dad, or mother. But you have to do what you must do to survive.
👁👄👁 *me watching this full video knowing very well I will never choose to live in a van*
Amazing thank you! Very inspiring 👏👏❤️
Honestly, this is cool only when you’re in your 20s. Essentially, homeless will be the best word to describe it. However, it’s a compromise. Imagine you can earn a million dollars a year, why do you have to put up with such a terrible living condition? Always alone, no one to hug during sleep, no kids, no family bliss. Well, dude, enjoy this life for a couple of years and then get back to a normal decent lifestyle.
Er, toilet?
such a great informative video… I took one small step and put in the reflectors over the windows in my car. Living in Nevada that has really helped in the summer. I’ll be driving across country soon in the car and I’m going to put temporary tint on my windows using tint sheets from Walmart…and some velcro…baby steps…for taking naps at rest stops and truck stops….more "real" travel planned next year when I look for a conversion van…
What a sweet video! The part about community was so touching. Makes me want to go out and get a van to live in but I don’t even drive 😂
An entire generation has been priced out of the housing and apartment market…
I could listen to your voice all day
This may be acceptable in CA or various states out west, however this would never work in North Jersey especially Within the fluent areas or most residential neighborhoods. For example I have cups crawling all over my town on a regular basis if anybody looks slightly suspicious people will call the cops on you.
This guy is so professional. Love his voice and the way he talks and explained things. Congratulations 👏💐
The limit is 70% tint and you have to consider what the existing tint is when adding to it. The police have meters that they use to measure the percentage of tint on site and any vehicle that is obviously darkly tinted will be a potential target.
Interesting lifestyle!👍
I hope your car doesn’t get stolen mate
I don’t get why anyone would do this. Get a room share for $500 and live in a house like a person. You can even get cheaper shares. If you make $50 k you can save 60% of your income ez. 100k you can save 80%.
Tinted that low is illegal in most states
So you showered but used your gym clothes?
This is so sad 🙁
Good video. I need 7000sqt house
Humbling…
The fact this is becoming more of a thing shows you the state of everything. This is ridiculous.
A VERY DANGEROUS lifestyle, EXPENSIVE, no bathroom, breakdowns, gas, Insurance, repairs, robberies, hurricanes, snow, rain AND IF reposessed You homeless.
for many people it is the only option…
A down payment on a van can be as low as one or two months rent and lower payback installments.
The key is being inconspicuous… Buy a tradesman’s van….
