The Ultimate Van Build Journey:
In Season 1 of the van build, we stripped off the old DPD stickers, rust-proofed the entire van, painted it our favorite matte grey color, redesigned the cab, planned our van’s design / layout, created our epic water tanks, built our custom panorama roof windows, installed new wheels, & installed an insulated floor! PHEW! Building a home is something else! https://bit.ly/LM_SEASON1

Then Season 2 of the van build rolled around, and with our workshop’s renovation behind us, it got TECHNICAL! We built a 47 degree solar tilt (1kW of solar power!), made custom seat bases & installed our custom seats, we took security to the NEXT level, breaking down our 12 incredible layers of security, wired everything our tech-dependent home will need, created the BEST insulation we’ve ever seen in a campervan (check out our video on campervan insulation & cold camping insulation), installed our own custom security cameras, framed the ceiling, AND created our peak-a-boo curtains. WOW!! We are beyond ready to be off grid in this Ducato van home! ❤️ https://bit.ly/LM_SEASON2

🐾 Who are we?
We’re Ladi (from Czechia) & Margaret (from USA) and we love eBikes, campervans, & cats. In 2020 our van life lifestyle flipped upside down, & we needed to stop traveling in our camper to lockdown in eastern Czech Republic due to the pandemic. With no travel plans and some new time on our hands, we decided to sell our old van, start an electric bike business, begin a youtube channel, build our ultimate dream campervan, renovate a junkyard into a tiny house homestead, plan a container & apartment unit, and… well, some other smaller projects in-between 😅.

What we thought would only be 6 months of “stillness” has become 2 years of innovation, progress, and so much fun, and most of that is thanks to YOU. Although we’re excited to be back on the road and traveling the world again soon, we’re so thankful to lay a foundation here in Central Europe & bring you with us on this crazy journey. Thank you for supporting us and being part of this incredible community!

Ikr I am in and out of bed 24 hours a day.By golly my bed is my home office.

  2. Joice on August 3, 2022 at 2:45 am

I really disliked the cooktop right on top of the couch, my mind just go to all the possibilities of mess that can come from that.

I just have to comment on the [subjectively] revolting upholstery. Sorry.

    Love the folding bed %1000

  7. Jan Soors on August 3, 2022 at 2:50 am

Why such a deep sink? Living in a van, you’ll always be frugal with water. With a shallow sink you could put in a bigger frontloaded fridge.

  8. sucesso em vendas on August 3, 2022 at 2:51 am

    Amazing your van

  9. Just Another Internet Dude on August 3, 2022 at 2:51 am

A thing cosmetically for me that I would never put in a van build is matching front and back upholstery/design. For me it makes it feel less like a home and more like an RV and if I am living full time, I would rather have a more "standard" couch style fabric with a pattern to make it feel more like a couch. If I was going temporary trips, then I would just go for an RV, but for Van Life, having that separation between the driving and living for me is important. I would say you made some great points overall but the biggest non cosmetic actual functional thing that I think would not be good after a while is the bed itself. That is a lot of moving parts and extra wear and tear on other parts. Also you are locked into a maximum thickness for a mattress and from what it looks like, to fold like that, you will have to have a really soft mattress/pad to use it and I know I am not the only firm mattress sleeper out there. If I was not going to do a completely fixed bed, I still think a simple pull out futon couch style with wrap around seating is just more functional and convenient and you would have more storage underneath it as well. Especially if you are doing a design that gives up an internal gear-age, you might as well make that compromise worth it.

It’s a nice layout. I see your issues with it. But as a single with a pup it would be less issues. I don’t agree on the fridge unless you have extra solar. The testing of refrigerators and freezers have shown multiple times the top open uses a lot less current then the door open. With the door open I don’t care how fast you are you will lose all the cold air in the fridge every time you open it. Cold air always falls to the bottom. Open a standard fridge door all the cold air hits the floor and you have to chill the whole fridge again. The more food in it the less it’s effected because the food take up space. Top load ones don’t lose the air.

I always wonder the useage of the showers. But for living and driving where there isn’t a planet fitness I understand. If theirs a planet fitness I just use theirs. The slide out cooktop is a mess waiting to happen. Also uses a lot of electric. The water tank I agree should be under and insulated. Maybe a setup for winter so it recircs to a water heater to keep it from freezing. The size is to big as I don’t want anything hanging that low underneath.

I liked how you were talking on your build. Linear actuators for the bed. I was planning linear actuators for a pop top made of carbon with Solar cells sized to fit perfectly into roof recesses, so it doesn’t kill the aerodynamics and fuel usage. When the roof is up you always have a big bed. When it’s down you have a small bed in the back. So the small bed can be the traveling bed and upper bed is used at a campsite. As roof racks can easily cut 4mpg off a vehicle. That’s why I would use stick on solar or recessed only. Carry 2 extra 300 watt panels to tie in with a cord at a campsite. As you can place them perfectly and keep the van out of direct sunlight so it doesn’t get hot. I also have double swivel seats with a table that expands to use for a dinner table or work from a laptop.

  15. Helen H8TS FauxNews on August 3, 2022 at 3:01 am

I love the burrito bed but they need to make it go length wise for that tall guy.

  16. New Ideas on August 3, 2022 at 3:03 am

    Great

  17. ArnaudShanghai on August 3, 2022 at 3:04 am

Although the ideas are great on this van, the fit and finish looks very bad, and the leather on the seats must have been nice in the 90s but looks too old fashioned now. I would replace it by a uni color strong textile or alcantara.

  18. T Hyslop on August 3, 2022 at 3:05 am

  22. Antidote on August 3, 2022 at 3:11 am

    Live it out !

Van is a joke to live in
    Efficiency ?

Making van for only; single purpose to live in it , having permanent furniture in is no efficient.
Luxury ? That amount of space can’t be luxury
Leave van empty and just have bed mattress – preferably inflatable ready to be used when needed as well as bucket for toilet and large bucket to use for showering .
This way van can be used for whatever purpose , cargo transportation, transporting 8 passengers or as a camper.

Van looks pretty cool…the couple…not so much!

Without windows ? Unbelievable…how you can leave in this ?

  28. Lulu Plumb on August 3, 2022 at 3:16 am

I wouldn’t like the stove pulling out over the leather couch. That would really be messy, in my opinion.

    Thanks

I would for sure break that bed from fu@king

  33. SUBTT67 on August 3, 2022 at 3:21 am

Watertank outside? Not in my country 🇫🇮. Three months of year all water would be one huge icecube. All water containers must be inside if you want to use your van year around.

  34. Alyce Johnson on August 3, 2022 at 3:23 am

Great Review – your thoughts on burn out being linked to micro desgin issues was excellent too. Thanks so much for your honesty. Just one thing – I hate to tell you this – but your Gorgeous Bunny? She is actually….a Cat! hehehe And a very Beautiful pussycat she is, too!

  35. Jessica Kosorinec on August 3, 2022 at 3:25 am

Hi there. From your accent I was guessing either Slovak or Czech. Are you planning to sell or do you already sell those vans that you build. I am in Slovakia. Was looking for something to travel comfortably in.

  36. Rory Chivers on August 3, 2022 at 3:25 am

10:00 You can try as hard as you like, you won’t sell me on the smoothies, every time I have ever tried to make a smoothie, it has come out the back end a lot sooner than I would have liked.

  37. Teresa José on August 3, 2022 at 3:26 am

You stick to it on really sweaty days because that’s someone’s skin you’re sitting on. Quite literally. Horrible. #NotYourSkin

  38. Martin Harris on August 3, 2022 at 3:26 am

waterless toilet the way forward… Separett is a good brand

  39. Aquarian Sun22 on August 3, 2022 at 3:26 am

That’s amazing; I kept asking where is the stove and then it appeared; I love it !!!

  40. simonrichards150 on August 3, 2022 at 3:27 am

Top opening fridges are more efficient than bar style fridges, as the cold settles to the bottom as heat rises. Efficiency in a van build should be a priority so I’m happy to see the builder made a good decision here.

  41. T Hyslop on August 3, 2022 at 3:28 am

Bed looks like a real hassle.

  42. HERMITBOY 7 on August 3, 2022 at 3:29 am

Have Quick removable cotton seat covers (tying type) over these leather to be used in those very Hot summer days

  45. Rhonda Pelletier on August 3, 2022 at 3:30 am

I know you said the desktop holds 500 pounds to support the bed but is there any danger of your laptops being damaged from the constant compression of body weight??

  46. Fitra on August 3, 2022 at 3:31 am

    Want to have it too

  47. Ahmet Memiş on August 3, 2022 at 3:31 am

Bravo. It was a very useful post. Greetings from Turkiye.

  48. Renee Morris on August 3, 2022 at 3:33 am

Never have seen a burrito bed!

  49. Ladi & Margaret on August 3, 2022 at 3:33 am

What was your favorite feature of this van, and would you modify it at all for your own build?? Thanks for joining us for this final video of our USA Vanlife Trip! It was so important to us to get on the road again in the midst of our van build, visit family, travel a bit, to now return to the workshop with fresh heads & ideas! This winter is going to be unbelievable! It’s van build season, baby!!

  50. Papa Coach on August 3, 2022 at 3:35 am

Move the sink to the right side of the counter. Storage underneath. Standing fridge on left side. Induction stove pops out to the left by the door/ easy exhaust. Additional panel over the bench that folds down would extend the counter space all the way to the back of the van. The kitchen counter should be like 8 inches less wide, no one’s using the back 8 inches when working.. would allow for more room in alleyway.
