Ontario couple living in minivan for 3 years pleads for help

An Ontario couple in its late 50s is pleading for help after spending the last three-and-a-half years living in a minivan.

Jerry Power, 59, and Sandra Graham, 57, said they were evicted from their apartment in Cambridge, Ont. and had no other choice but to move into their grey Nissan Quest minivan.

    All they have is excuses.

  4. Jay on August 12, 2022 at 3:22 am

Can someone tell me if they are still there I may have a way for them to say somewhere

  5. Tom Cain on August 12, 2022 at 3:28 am

We know about her health conditions, but why can’t Jerry get a job? No mention of that.

  6. Ban Trump on August 12, 2022 at 3:28 am

Why do they maintain an SUV? They should have traded it for a real minivan with a much larger trunk.

  7. Coach Rob Wille on August 12, 2022 at 3:30 am

Did they find a place this post is now three years old

  8. All Out Joy on August 12, 2022 at 3:31 am

They should move to Indiana. A studio would be enough room about 450.00. I make 1100 working a month and I get by, but van life is a way of life now, they need to get in touch with Bob on YouTube. They have a whole tribe of van dwellers.

  13. Nicole Mason on August 12, 2022 at 3:36 am

ok so they get 1100 a month and they have not thought about looking for ROOMS FOR RENT??

  14. Parker Howell on August 12, 2022 at 3:37 am

I feel like they’re just bitching. Turn the van into something that can be lived in. Remove the backseats and put in a mattress and insulate the van. For shower go to a gym. 10-50 a month. 1100 a month is possible but you have to live cheap and not go out to eat all the time.

  15. Jean on August 12, 2022 at 3:41 am

bachelor apt & food banks guys……then the mr. CAN work

  16. iloveyouamberappel on August 12, 2022 at 3:41 am

Ok. She is injured and can’t work ok. I get they got evicted but I am guessing they weren’t paying rent or good tenants.
So right now I work. If I was told I was getting removed from my home I would find another one. There is way more to this than they want to say. They were offered a home but turned it down because it "didn’t work". SO they made a choice to live in their van.

  22. Tim Luther on August 12, 2022 at 3:44 am

I’m sorry but when you can work in a fast food place serving coffee for $14.00 an hour, there’s no excuse for these two not doing something to better their own lives without looking for the rest of us to look after them too. They could have temporarily taken the place they were offered (inadequate or not) and at least had a place where they could bath or shower so they can get work and look after themselves. To me they are just one more lazy couple looking for hand outs because work takes a bit of ambition. We already have far too many with that kind of attitude in this country right now.
Maybe from a guy who’s been working for over 50 years, and trying to figure out how to afford to retire that seems cruel. I’m sorry. I don’t like to work either and do have my own severe aches and pains, .. but the upside to this working for what you have thing is I don’t live in my vehicle, and can feel good about the things I do have.
There are job fairs out there all the time. Surely someone would take a chance on these two if they really wanted to better their lives, and were willing to do what it takes to achieve that, … wouldn’t you think?

Crimes against humanity?… Get a job

  24. Steve Harris on August 12, 2022 at 3:46 am

Park yourself in front of the Parliament buildings or Queens Park with a placard naming the sleazy insurance company and what you’ve been forced to do to survive. A wealthy country such as ours that can apparently afford to put up illegal border crossers in hotels, feed, clothe and give them our taxpayer $$$ but can’t look after TRUE Canadians! What a f—ing disgrace.

  25. Brad Strawn on August 12, 2022 at 3:46 am

I’m down here tryin to figure out how to live in a van…

  26. Bru Star on August 12, 2022 at 3:46 am

"We don’t want to be a burden on society" BUT NEXT "this is a crime against humanity" and "as Canadian citizens we should be having a good life, not living in a van." What the heck are they saying? Being a Canadian citizen automatically confers the "good life" to you without you having to take any responsibility for yourselves?

  27. Ricardo roams on August 12, 2022 at 3:49 am

We have many similar stories here in the USA, too. Many people’s wages are simply not keeping up with costs. The ever widening income gap between the haves and have nots is a problem nobody seems to want to address. This will only get worse.

  28. Madam Butterfly on August 12, 2022 at 3:51 am

They’re Canadian citizens, let Canada take care of them – they’re in their late 50’s?? Looks more like 70’s – why didn’t they save their money in younger years & while working?? Unwise choices in life, you end up like this, unfortunately

  29. Andrew on August 12, 2022 at 3:51 am

Stop dissing immigrants, this couple’s story makes no sense. They spend the wife’s money at restaurants, the husband doesn’t work, they turned down a house offer already, and they refuse to give up their van… Sorry but these ppl can’t be helped.

  30. Gregory Hodge on August 12, 2022 at 3:52 am

I think they needed a better lawyer after the accident.

  31. Andy Melo on August 12, 2022 at 3:55 am

Drive into US illegally and get your Food Card, grab a government apartment in a small town and start collecting welfare

  33. Victor James on August 12, 2022 at 3:56 am

  34. Gary Ko on August 12, 2022 at 3:57 am

But immigrants come and are giving the world. Wtf is happening here.

  35. Lulu on August 12, 2022 at 3:57 am

Three years? I would have done something to get two jobs and saved enough for a place. I was very poor in my younger days. Depending on government handout never crossed my mind. I always managed to find job (minimum wage jobs), sometimes working two jobs. I survived.

  36. LOVE LOVE on August 12, 2022 at 3:58 am

why did they get evicted? why aren’t they working? they are able to work they just don’t want to!!

  37. Craig Blake on August 12, 2022 at 3:59 am

Go to Roxam road, crossover, put on some brown makeup and a hijab. Then, cross back over and say you’re Muslim, and you demand halal. Tell them you are related to Icky Khalid and Ahmed Hussen. Make sure you get the police to carry your luggage, and someone sees you ditch your cell phones, you will be Parliamentarians within two years. Oh, and if Trudeau personally welcomes you, tell him you’re Isl**ic terr**ists – he likes that! You will be set for life like winning the lottery.

Caucasian families, where children don’t help their parents.

Take a look at how asians and Indians that have lived in Canada for a long time operate.

  41. Di Fi on August 12, 2022 at 4:04 am

Vote Max Bernier. He’ll take care of real Canadians. Turdeau is a POS letting this happen to our real Canadian citizens. I’ve never despised anyone like I do Turdeau

Why can’t they move in with their children. They said they missed birthdays for the last three years! Are there too ashamed to ask their children for help?

  45. Baller4Life on August 12, 2022 at 4:08 am

Is it reasonable to get them to renounce their Canadian citizenship, sneak back across into Canada, and apply for refugee status?? I would agree to that.

  46. fergal farrelly on August 12, 2022 at 4:09 am

I’ll rent them a room for 200 a month if they can get to Alberta.

  48. Victoria Christian on August 12, 2022 at 4:10 am

Somebody give that guy a job….. you know my aunt lives down $900 a month and made it work. I wouldn’t be donating to them

  49. LordCovens Jurnalist on August 12, 2022 at 4:11 am

they are not in my city or i would offer them a room to share for 650 a month or separate rooms 450 each

  50. Sole Man on August 12, 2022 at 4:11 am

The housing they were offered was inadequate? Why don’t they accept what is offered instead of complaining about having to live in a van? And why don’t they work again? I mean 59 is not really senior citizen age
