Macro organizing Hope this work. My mess stresses and depresses me. Deeply.

I’m definitely a butterfly – I love to see some of my things, but I definitely don’t need to see everything all the time – that gets overwhelming. Ladybug tips definitely help for the things I don’t need to always see – – I have buckets and containers in my bathroom cabinets for things like my makeup and hair products – I just take the bucket out when I need it and then toss things back in and put it away. Then I can just enjoy the pretty things I leave out in the bathroom. It also keeps the things I do need to see (medications, etc) from getting lost in the visual clutter. Thanks for all the tips!

    I am a Ladybug.

I’m a LAZYbug I mean ladybug lol. When I took the test I thought it said lazybug. I’m like how did she know I’m really lazy. Lol I struggle with organizing and I procrastinate a lot.

Discovering this series WAY late, but man oh man, I have discovered I am a bee married to a butterfly. I took the test, and assessed him via the literal jar of PB that lives in the toaster station I set up. Glad to know I’m doing the right things for my type! (Although figuring this out before I turned 38 would have been nice…)

I’m a Lady Butterfly! I want my frequently used items at arms reach, but I hate using clear plastic containers. I don’t want that much visual clutter, and I’m not going to label everything I stow away! I’m on to the next thing too!

  7. C S on May 17, 2022 at 7:42 pm

I’m a ladybug but filling cabinets are great for some things!!! With macro categories 😉

  8. Rebecca White on May 17, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Send another video that you were a butterfly

I’m bawling! I have never felt so validated in my entire life. Thank you!!!!!

  10. Lena Roach on May 17, 2022 at 7:47 pm

I have just discovered you! I love Dawn if the minimal mom and now I know why. We are both ladybugs! Haha. I totally get this! I too, don’t put the lid on the PB all the time. Hahahah. I’m 46 an empty nester and struggling and struggling with how I want to organize. I have no issues with sentimental items. My issue is daily tasks. It’s harder now to keep things cleaner than when my kids were home! Ha! I know your season and Dawns may not be empty nesting so don’t forget us that are!! Help! 🙂 🙂

i always leave the butter out of the fridge after ive made my food. cuz im onto the eating part of the making my food and im done with the making. drives my partner loopy

  12. Ashleigh Lillith on May 17, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Yes, I am a ladybug, but I still need to partially see my things in other containers behind closed doors. If the bins are opaque, even labeled matching ones, I will forget which one is which or how my category system was organized. I need a sneak peak, but I can’t handle seeing everything in my face at the same time.

What if I didn’t fully close the peanut butter right after using, but I closed it better before I went to bed and then put it back in the cabinet the next day. I eventually get it done, but im tired, lazy, procrastinate.

  14. Kim Perfect on May 17, 2022 at 7:51 pm

I’m a ladybug. You definitely understand the ADD mind.

  15. Diane O on May 17, 2022 at 7:51 pm

I’m a Ladybug living with a Butterfly. Visual chaos in my house drives me nuts but my husband wants everything out in the open and easy to grab. A constant battle.

I think Ladybugs are always thinking ahead to the next task and can’t be bothered to be too meticulous and take the extra time needed for detailed organization. However, we can’t walk away from a big mess that is untouched! The peanut butter analogy is great, LOL.

  16. yourfriendforever1 on May 17, 2022 at 7:54 pm

I have a jar of Goober. What if I have to put the lid on correctly and put it back in the cabinet in a certain place? But I don’t think I’m just one bug. I haven’t figured out what I am. The test said I was a butterfly. But maybe I didn’t give the right answers. And I had some trouble believing I was a butterfly. I’m trying to do the little class that talks about the different styles. Oh, yeah, I’m editing to tell you I have OCD. But I do not keep my place clean. And it does not bother me too much that I don’t keep it clean. But it does bother me. I have had problems and haven’t felt like cleaning, and don’t have much energy. It’s hard to make myself clean. But lately, I have enjoyed decluttering some paper clutter. That I usually don’t bother with. And I decluttered and organized a little other than that. In the kitchen, I decided to use some old basket things I had. And I’m using a basket, that I finally cleared out, to put the latest mail in. (That basket is in the living room.) That’s what it was for, but it’s been full. I do have a kiddie thing I wanted to use for a filing cabinet, but I don’t like to take the time, to put things in folders, I guess. Cause when I was dealing with paper clutter, I was just sticking some things in there, to deal with later. There are some folders in there. They aren’t upright, cause I don’t think I can do that with this kiddie thing I’m using. I wish I could tell you more about the kitchen baskets, but this is long. P.S. When I use things to file papers, they just get full, and I move on to using something else later, (sooner or later), and never deal with the papers in the old things. And for another thing, I display a lot of things, so it makes me not even want to dust, because I’d have to remove them. Can you tell me what kind of bug you think I am? If a certain one? Or what kinds I am like?

I just took the test – butterfly – which really surprised me and I was sure it wasn’t right. Then i saw the video. I’m such a butterfly :p I had my husband take the test too. I thought he would be a butterfly too. Nope. Ladybug. And again i didn’t believe right away but after watching the video and reading a bit we are both convinced. i guess the fact that we both had a "wrong" idea of who was what type of organiser explained a few things about what have maybe gone wrong in the past. Now we have a language to talk about these things and he is already thinking of better ways of organizing here at home – so thank you so much! 🙂

  18. Chandra Harper on May 17, 2022 at 7:58 pm

This makes so much sense to me. I am definitely a ladybug and I have all my paperwork sorted into micro files and it is NOT working for me. I think I may try to do larger categories and see if that helps me! I am definitely the kind who won’t take the time to put stuff in the right place if it’s too much mental effort to figure out where it goes! Thanks for helping me understand why this system wasn’t working for me. Time for a file drawer overhaul! 🙂

  19. Becky J Andersen on May 17, 2022 at 7:59 pm

What I found for my paper mess was binders. One for finance papers, one for medical papers, one for work papers. And I use duo tang folders for each car putting the DMV insurance paperwork and any repair bills associated with that vehicle.
My bills as they come in go into a double pocket folder. Left side is unpaid, right side is paid which I keep until the bill comes in the next time and I know it credited correctly.

  20. Shannen McDonald on May 17, 2022 at 8:02 pm

Micro-organizing is not efficient for everyone. If it is natural for you, you will be able to do it quickly without a ton of effort. But if it isn’t natural for you to micro-organize , it will take you so much longer to do it that it will not be efficient or effective. It’s not lazy to macro-organize. It’s smart to do what is efficient for you

  21. FAITH. HOPE. LOVE. on May 17, 2022 at 8:04 pm

Thank you SO MUCH for helping me!!!! ❤️

  22. CJP on May 17, 2022 at 8:06 pm

Okay, Cas. I think macro organizers are the way we are because we hate wasting time and energy doing something again and again when we know it isn’t absolutely necessary. We have better or more important things to spend our time on. Why make files for warranties? How much time and energy do we spend picking out the right color or the folder with the right tri-cut so we can label it and stick a warranty in it. I just throw all the warranties in the same drawer. On the rare occasion when I need to get check one, it takes less than 5 minutes to find it in that drawer. All those file folders take up a surprising amount of space too. Just saying. When I was about 10 years old I read Cheaper by the Dozen. I was so impressed by the dad’s dedication to perfecting conservation of movement and eliminating wasted time and energy that I still remember the flash bulb going off in my head. LOL. BTW, I drive my husband nutts too because I give the cap on the milk one turn. "Why do you do that! It’s barely on!" Not true. It’s on just fine. It’s not tight.

  23. Alissa Case on May 17, 2022 at 8:06 pm

I always thought I was being lazy, but then I realized I was just super efficient. I bet most ladybugs are efficient multi-taskers.

  24. KleineMausii17 on May 17, 2022 at 8:06 pm

I would close it properly but it must be simple If i should put it away before i eat

  25. Michele Daly on May 17, 2022 at 8:06 pm

As a Butterfly/wannaBee, I completely agree with the idea that persons who need easy storage solutions are not lazy – we are just super efficient when it comes to how we use our time. We have to be, there are so many things to learn and fun activities to experience! Why would I take the time to put a pot, favorite cup, condiments, you name it – away after every time I’ve used them, when I use them every day – often more than once? Not gonna happen. I’ve got better things to do!!! Thamks so much for keeping it real:)

  26. Felicia Sockol-Guest on May 17, 2022 at 8:06 pm

this is so cool. I definitely am a bee

  27. Janelle Martin on May 17, 2022 at 8:07 pm

I think a good way to explain the difference would be to ask "what would your ideal organizing system look like". I am a ladybug but because I’ve been trying to use a system more fit for a bee, my house actually looks like I’m a butterfly. I have stuff everywhere and it stresses me out. When I look at pictures of very visually simple spaces it brings me peace. Maybe more pictures of what each insects ideal space would look like. For example, what would an organized butterfly’s bedroom look like, verses a bee’s bedroom, verses a ladybugs bedroom, verses a cricket. I really liked how you showed an example of your craft room and then a few pictures of other craft rooms to illustrate the difference.

  28. Kayla on May 17, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Oh my gosh I’m that way with lids (and foil tops) and for sure I won’t leave it out where I can *gasp* see it!

My husband leaves everything out but he closes everything perfectly 🤣. We are you two.

This episode would be great for premarital counseling.

  31. FreeasaButterfly on May 17, 2022 at 8:12 pm

I’m a butterfly before my stroke I was a bee. I’m thankful I’ve learned by my faith in Jesus Christ to let go and adjust to my new normal. He has brought good out of it helping me to let go and let God

  32. Martha Coraggio on May 17, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Lol that peanut butter test cracked me up… yup, i just lightly close it 😂

  33. Katie C on May 17, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Omg I am going back and watching this. Joe totally solved it. I will half way screw the lid on and leave that pb jar on the counter. I hate putting crap away I just want to eat my sandwich

  34. Kimberly Coronado on May 17, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Thank you and your husband for the peanut butter test!!! Love it! I had taken the test three times and gotten three different results, the answers did not quite fit me. So the peanut butter idea makes sense, and if there was still any doubt, I am a cricket. LOL

  35. J. Rebekah on May 17, 2022 at 8:13 pm

I do like my file cabinet, but not everything is filed, stuffed into other boxes of paperwork, and the files are titled with very broad subjects. History. Taxes. I have to work to get it down to more specifics. I love that it’s out of sight but accessible. Too much stuff out makes me anxious, esp small organized stuff that you can see. That’s the bee? Yikes. It takes up too much mental space. When I shop to get organized it’s wooden boxes or tasteful bins. I’d rather a few beautiful things be out. I know some woman who have no hobbies but organizing their homes, and that’s just not me. I do need to learn to be more tidy though because a well organized home creates more time for living. This approach with the different styles makes a lot of sense, thank you.

  36. PugMama on May 17, 2022 at 8:14 pm

I’m officially a ladybug. I love seeing super organized spaces, but in the long run less is more. Now I’m excited and hopeful to try this myself. Plus love the peanut butter test. So true!

  37. Carrie Pinchuk on May 17, 2022 at 8:14 pm

I know it’s three years old, but thank you for this video. I’m a ladybug. Do you have any videos about a ladybug parent with bee or butterfly kid(s)? My one kid is definitely visual and I think her stuff just looks cluttered. I don’t know how to help her organize.

  38. FoodShowFan on May 17, 2022 at 8:16 pm

    I love you. Thank you!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

  39. Abby Edwards on May 17, 2022 at 8:17 pm

Oh my word, this is 100% me! I’m nodding throughout the entire video. This really helps me feel more confident and not feel sloppy, or lazy.

  40. PAUL RAMOS on May 17, 2022 at 8:21 pm

I think i am more a Cricket style and my husband is more the Ladybug. I will spend hours redoing and organizing an area and the next day he is throwing stuff somewhere to get it out of the way never to be seen again.

  41. Shalom on May 17, 2022 at 8:23 pm

Oh my, that peanut butter test is fabulous! I think the hardest thing is be real with who we really are versus our fantasy self.

  42. Karla Labath on May 17, 2022 at 8:23 pm

I’ve been vacillating between Ladybug and Cricket. The Peanut Butter Test was my break through! My husband will only half way screw on lids to everything which makes me crazy! He does put the jar away. So, I think I am the Cricket to his Ladybug! Thanks for the PB test Joe!

  43. Thina Gcayi on May 17, 2022 at 8:24 pm

I’m a 🐞. What you described is literally me. Paper one of my biggest nightmares. I have a filing system I can’t maintain. So I just throw on my documents in filing sleeves until they are required. The tidiest spot that I gives me the least anxiety is my bathroom cos I have thrown things into categorised bins. My kitchen is so bare. I got so anxious looking at the appliances that I packed them away. It’s stunning.

  44. Trisha Whitehead on May 17, 2022 at 8:26 pm

This makes so much sense. I am definitely a ladybug! Thank you

  45. Demelza Poldark on May 17, 2022 at 8:26 pm

This made me chuckle bc This describes me to a T. Now to have my husband take th quiz….

  48. Someday Chronicles on May 17, 2022 at 8:29 pm

What if I would put the lid properly on the peanut butter jar, but would leave the jar on the counter???

  49. Tracy on May 17, 2022 at 8:30 pm

Coolirpa mentioned your quiz on her video about reorganizing her sewing space. The quiz said I was a ladybug and after watching this I’m convinced it’s spot on. Knowing this about myself just – changed – everything. Thank you!

Listening to your mix. I am a ladybug married to a bee. He is a neat bee but keeps everything OMG. The trash bag needs to be black for sure! He was taking off the trash and found a few things that he could use later and took them out. I went along and a few days later put them in the black bag with other stuff! So just saying they may even want to SAVE YOUR STUFF! Lol Been married 47 years so it will take a little while to re-train him.
