This process has worked flawlessly for us for 5 years now & we wanted to share it with you. All steps are below for you to copy and paste for your own records. Enjoy the video!
π₯UPDATE: Before completing step 1 below – check the power pedestal for power using only your surge protector indicators or another device that is not connected to your trailer. If the pedestal power is out or there is an issue with the output of the pedestal, you wont have anything to pack up before moving to a new campsite.π₯

#RVTips #SettingUpAnRV #HowToSetUp
I am getting ready to go on my first camping trip without my husband and I need to know if I unhook the power cord from the truck before or after when I plug into the power pole?
Great job β¦ I watch a lot of your vids and always find something new to do or the correct way to do them
Thanks Bob
New to RV’ing since April 2022. Found your channel a couple of months ago. Appreciate your teaching style, no nonsense, just what we need to be better and safer with RV’ing. Love your tip on low point valves also, makes it so easy to drain low point. Thanks
Why do you set up the rear stabilizers first? When I set up, I set up in an X pattern with the stabilizers!. Is this wrong?
I am a newbie, camping less than a year now. I have a small T T 26β overall
Thanks!
What are the locks on your surge protector?
Level
β€οΈ
Get the level mate. Itβs been my best rv purchase. Use it every time and have never needed a level except for the first time setting up.
Have you ever tried to change the closet door handle and/or the window shade so the closet door can open up all the way? This is a lack of attention to detail!
I simply carry a 4 foot level, place it on the rear bumper for side to side. Works every time
Thanks!! great video!!
Awesome videos!! A little late to the party. (Iβm currently binge watching all your content) One tip I learned the hard wayβ¦. Check the ground at the bottom of your steps to ensure the ground is level. Before you put your mat out. I twisted an ankle stepping from the step onto a small hole on the groundβ¦ I bring along a small garden shovel to fill in small holes that one might accidentally step inβ¦
I just got my first RVβ how do I feta check list for setting up
anderson levelers or the ones by beach lane, get rid of blocks you can go from 1/2 " to 4 inches for you side to side works with tandem axles also, saves ton of time, i used both now, prefer beechlane ,…otherwise this video is great for beginners
Thank you just got my first camper . Not as simple as I was imagining
One thing I have found out with our rig that has just one slide, is that once I put the slide out, the trailer leans a little to that side and the stabilizer jacks on the opposite side are a little loose and I need to tighten them up some more. So I would recommend that once you think you are set up completely, to recheck your stabilizer jacks. Also, I recheck them as well as the wheel chocks throughout our stay as the trailer may have settled/shifted some, especially if the site is gravel. This is where I think the x-chicks would be advantageous, since trying to get regular chocks firmly wedges under the wheels on gravel Is difficult.
Hey, I like your video’s, very helpful. I’ve reached out to a couple of YouTube channels to no avail, but here’s another go @ it. I’m a small self employed guy out of Arkansas and recently have had an idea about a RV raffle giveaway. If this is something that interests you, I would like to communicate more about it somehow. Not sure how to get in contact with you but where there’s a will there’s a way… again, thanks for the video’s which are very helpful!
Great video thanks! Curious what everyone uses to ensure you don’t end up on a road with clearances that are too low?
Great video with tons of information and tips. We are stubborn too and do not use any kind of electric monitoring system for leveling.
Thank you for your videos – I’m moving from a pop-up to a 26 foot RV with new procedures. Your content is top notch on every video – VERY valuable.
Iβm unable to copy the check list in my iPhone.
Great setup video. Very helpful. My first step is to plug my surge protector into the power pole to make sure it is good before I start settling up.
Itβs called voltage drop when you extend your power cables too far. This lowers voltage and increases amperage, causing more heat than the conductors are rated for. Causing an electrical fire or damaging equipment.
Ross, starting to dewinterize our Imagine and we just got another dump of snow so will wait until this weekend. We bought a pair of sissor chocks and will be staying at Rio Bend Golf Resort, southern CA, January and February 2024. Will it be ok to have the sissor chocks on for that long of time or should I take them off a couple of times so the tires can rebound back? Thank you.
Where is the checklist?
You have the most informative, easy to understand, well explained, camping videos on the Internet. Thank you!
You should do one about breaking camp. Yeah, I know you’d think it was just the reverse but, sometimes stuff happens. I’ve been RVing since the 70’s and I’m about to tell you something that will let you know anyone, even someone with years of experience, can screw up. As I was pulling out of my campsite, my neighbor was waving his arms frantically at me. I slammed on my brakes, got out of the truck, and he pointed up the side of my fifth wheel trailer. I forgot to bring in the awning. Yup, bone headed move of the day. Our previous RV had a manual style awning so you couldn’t help but see the awning was out due to the arms being low to the ground. These new electric awnings don’t have those arms. So, out of sight, out of mind. And, of course, my wife just looked at me and shook her head. That could have been an expensive lesson. I suggest you keep a checklist like I used to do and have started to do again.
A new camper here. Very helpful! thank you!
Good video, but please keep music to a minimum!
Thanks for the info! What Rachet wrench are you using?
Hi Ross, wondering if you have a video of your trailer? in this video I could see backpacks on command hooks? which may be a great idea for my set up. you also had a broom fastened to a hold in you storage compartment? which may be a great idea for my set up. Such a demo video of the hacks you have picked up might be helpful
Before I level the trailer, or do anything, I check to see if all the utilities work. If they donβt I contact campground personnel to either get it fixed or if I have to move to another site I donβt have to break camp because I didnβt set up yet. To help me level the trailer, I use a level attached to the front of the trailer that I can see from the driver seat and a wedge type leveler like Anderson. Hear are my 10 steps to set up camp. My wife and I can set up in about 15 minutes.
1. Pull up to the site and look it over before pulling in. Look for overhead branches and debris on the ground, anything that would keep from pulling in. I don’t have a slide, but this is where you would check to see if it clears.
2, Pull/back into site, check that the utilities work and will reach. Check that the water flows and the pedestal is wired correctly. Spray water faucet with Lysol. Look at sewer hook up for anything unusual.
Go no Go. If all above checks out proceed, If not contact campground office to correct problem or get new site.
3. Level trailer side to side and see that steps clear.
4. Chock wheels.
5. Unhook trailer from Tow Vehicle.
6. Level front to back.
7. Stabilizer jacks down.
The rest in any order.
8. Connect water, electric, sewer, cable TV, if applicable.
9. Chairs, awning, table.
10. Cold beverage.
I’m old school and use a four foot level also. My helpfull tip is to lift the level up until it shows level. This will show you which side and exactly how much you need to place under the tires to be level.
We just picked up our new Shadow Cruiser travel trailer, with the maiden voyage scheduled for May 7-14. I did a tremendous amount of research prior to purchasing, and there was an awful lot of…well, frankly, quite awful content on YT, but I found a couple (and I mean just a couple) of channels made by people that were personable, were presenting quality information that I used to make some decisions, and whose videos were a professional quality. Your channel is at the top of the list! We binged all of your videos and really enjoy them, finding them very entertaining and informative. I’ve watched them over and over! I really appreciate your checklists…really helps with my OCD!!! hahahaha Thanks for helping making our decision, keep doing what you are doing!!
Like all your Youtubes. We have a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2600RB 29′ so your Youtubes are great to watch and learn from. I noticed you use wooden blocks for your stabilizers and front jack. Any reason? We use the Camco leveling blocks which comes in a stack of ten and easy to carry and load. We do use the Andersen leveling system and I really like it. Plus the ROBLOC solid rubber wheel chocks. Thanks
Very helpful, thank you.
Do you have a link for that ratchet wrench?
great video, how did you fill up the electric water heater with water?
Maybe should have called this "How to Park and Level a Trailor". Wanted to know about fresh water and sewer hookups. Gonna be using one in my yard while repairs are done on my home, wanted to see more on what’s required to hook it up.
Great video. What is that blue ratchet you have to tighten Xchocks and stabilizers? I would love to get Hubby one.
I am like a sponge soaking up your info. THANK YOU!!
your audio is ass… thanks for the tips
You have the best videos! We are picking up our new travel trailer tomorrow and I really appreciate your style of videos. They’re easy to understand and make RVing seem less intimidating and completely doable! Our first trip is at the end of the month. So grateful for your help π
Thanks. Glad I found your channel.
Can you do a video on permanent RV’s in camp grounds? I am a new owner of a permanent RV in a campground resort. Many of your tips can be used on this type of RV I know, but would like to know what is different in maintenance of my type of RV & the travel RV’s you talk about. Thanks!
Thank you so much am getting my first travel trailer.. I needed this information π―
Never used a camper but is it possible to level with the stabilizer jacks?
I have a 1999 Glendale Royal Classic l just put a new battery in it for the generator, when we put it to start it wants to start but doesnβt.Any ideas what to do?Thanks
I am thinking of purchasing a Furrion backup camera. You listed the 7" what do you think are the advantages of the 7" verses the 5" other than a bigger screen?
