Safety precautions I took on my first solo camping trip #carcamping #shorts #solofemaletraveler

“How do you stay safe?!”

Staying safe on my first solo camping trip was my top priority. 👏🏼

In addition to staying at a campsite that I was familiar with and bringing several forms of protection, I am confident in using my voice and body to protect myself. 😤

Sure, camping alone was kinda scary but I did everything I could to prepare for what I was scared of and I ended up having a great time. I don’t want to let my fears hold me back from doing things I love and I shouldn’t have to wait for someone else to be free so I can go on an adventure!

Here’s what I brought to stay safe:

🐻 Bear spray
🚨 @shes_birdie personal alarm
🔪 Pocket knife
😤 Whistle
🔒 Carabiners to use as “locks” for my tent
🪑 An extra chair to make it look like I wasn’t alone

🚘 I parked the car facing the road so I wouldn’t have to back out if I needed to make a quick escape.

And the most important thing I did on my solo camping trip was 👏🏼trust my gut👏🏼

I’m glad you’re taking precautions. Because nowadays, things are really scary.. I would still not recommend going camping alone.

I’ve been backpacking and camping in the back country for 30 years. Never needed to carry bear spray, whistles, or take weird safety measures for a fast escape. I do carry a tactical knife and a hacket, but more so to cut food down and break down fallen wood. Taking all those precautions makes this sound like terrible trip

Isn’t it sad you can’t just go camping and not have to worry about these things? Happy camping!

Instead of all that nonsense, all you need is a gun and a dog.

When I camp alone I just do the shit as always let someone know where I am and bring a gun problem solved 😂

  31. CaSuLtRaS on August 25, 2023 at 7:58 pm

Being from a country where you don’t get to defend yourself when your life is at risk, it always amaze me how some people in the US are so anti-gun that they would do all of that shit in order to not carry.

  32. Adam Weed on August 25, 2023 at 7:58 pm

    buy a gun

  33. Big Boss on August 25, 2023 at 7:58 pm

I told my sister when she went camping alone to take an extra chair and pour water into 2 solo cups and move them around the table thru out the day to show extra peoples movements

  34. K B on August 25, 2023 at 7:59 pm

What’s with all the talk of guns?
Such an odd suggestion, Americans perhaps?🤔
That’s not how we think up here. Certainly not any camping gear I’ve ever heard of.

Ditch the car….. go back country. 👍

  38. SIlverranger on August 25, 2023 at 8:06 pm

A high lumen flashlight is your best friend while camping. Most bad things are gonna happen at night, so having a blinding flashlight with a strobe mode can completely blind an attacker in the pitch black of night. SWAT teams use bright lights and flash bangs to great effect and so should you. Combining bear mace with a blinding light would work fantastic. Have a knife you can open with a flick of a finger with 1 hand. If something bites or restrains an arm being able to attack with another can save your life. A spring assisted knife is usually best because it’s the easiest and fastest to open in a high adrenaline situation. Keep your car fob on you and use your panic button to draw attention if you need help.

  39. Waylon_Jennings on August 25, 2023 at 8:07 pm

    Buy a gun

  40. Big Foot on August 25, 2023 at 8:11 pm

Great tips but on some real that multitool wont deploy quickly if you needed it. Get a dedicated knife like a cheap fixed blade with a full tang or a folding knife from a reputable brand with a good steel D2 tool steel is a good place to start.

  41. Les Bratton on August 25, 2023 at 8:12 pm

You missed the important one, stay strapped.

  42. x-tremewax on August 25, 2023 at 8:13 pm

tip- put the carabiner on the inside of your tent, that way if someone actually did try to steal your stuff, at least you’d be inside safe. but, that does not stop them from cutting into your tent. newsflash, everyone brings a knife when they camp. most likely you will run into someone with a blade. be careful out there.

  43. Gary Cooper on August 25, 2023 at 8:14 pm

Excellent points! You did well! I endorse this video.

U should get your self a dog

  45. Jace Stephenson on August 25, 2023 at 8:16 pm

Shoulda bought a pistol and it woulda been way better

  46. Jacqueline Cutshall on August 25, 2023 at 8:16 pm

Ummmm why don’t you carry. Seriously that knife will do what ?!

  47. Elliot Savenko Graebner on August 25, 2023 at 8:16 pm

It’s camping. Don’t hesitate to get a larger knife. They can be very useful as tools, but something about holding a sturdy knife helps chase away fear. (Also, firearm if you’re American and feel you need it cuz the areas sketchy) not to mention that in general solo camping is relatively safe so long as you know what you’re doing as far as camping in general.
