Hey lisa thanks for the great content. What if you have a pedestal sink in the powder room and are unable to put papertowels or soap dispenser. Thanks.

Hi Lisa thank you so much for the great tips!

  7. Carly Friesen on October 3, 2022 at 7:10 am

This was great! I hadn’t thought about the stack of towels vs single towel. I can’t see it working in my space, however, because we just have the single bathroom with tub/shower, elongated toilet, and 24×24 sink with just enough space for the door to swing open 😅. It’s hard enough right now to fit a small garbage can plus stool and potty seat for my kids (need to get a fold-up stool…). Our medicine cabinet mirror is falling apart and I would LOVE to replace it with a sink-to-ceiling mirror instead, but need to figure out a better option for storing toiletries. Seeing the fabulous wallpapers is making me reconsider just going with plain white paint, and now I’m pondering some kind of stencil pattern 🤔 using colours that correspond with the tiles on the floor and shower area. So many possibilities!

Lisa, I don’t HAVE a powder room!! The builder put in a (small) full bath right off the entry and next to our study. Presumably allowing the study to be used as a bedroom if necessary. I have decorated the bathroom as much as possible like a powder room though: fancy mirror, sconces, wallpaper, etc. What I have done is picked a shower curtain that pulls from the color on the wallpaper and I keep it fully extended so guests don’t actually see the tub area, but it is open above the shower curtain. However I need to make some surface changes like a new tile floor and a larger commode. Can you think of a better solution that could be executed when I have new flooring done? Maybe have the contractor create a partial wall above shower curtain to close off bathtub area more?

  12. Diane Baum on October 3, 2022 at 7:16 am

Wallpaper bold! Best thing for powder rooms!

  13. Margaret Cleary on October 3, 2022 at 7:19 am

love your energy & tips Lisa! I’m subscribed. I read your suggestion for a slender shelf if we have a pedestal sink in a narrow space (like mine) hopefully I can find something stylish that fits? Also how to update headboard stylishly (when a spouse isn’t the "bold" type :-). thank you!

How come we don’t do powder room and laundry combo? This is common everywhere except north america.

Great tips. I like to have a medicine cabinet with basics, like Tylenol, bandaids/Neosporin, Tampax, etc. for my guests, so they don’t have to be embarrassed by asking for these things. I also have paper towels, in nice metal holders, liquid soap pumps (not soap bars), and visible extra toilet paper in every bathroom. A good lock for the door is important, too, guests shouldn’t have to worry about someone walking in on them!

  19. Espe Goodbread on October 3, 2022 at 7:29 am

Thanks for the tips, will change the hand towel.👍

Hi lisa.. a off topic question. What was your advice on mixing medals in the kitchen? Rose gold handels on the appliances in matte white. Brushed nickle handels on white cabinets. What was your advice on how many metals you can mix. cant find it… thank you..

Airplants are not low maintenance, low light plants! Please have them on a living room, or better, a place with lots of ventilation where you can water them periodically

I just would like to understand why is it called powder room. It’s a toilet right. Why do we have to give it a posh name if it’s not really necessary.

  29. Lisa Holt Design on October 3, 2022 at 7:41 am

Guys!! Time to chat POWDER ROOMS! This one is so funny because it’s not a room many people think about… yet, it’s SO tough to design and makes a huge first impression on your friends and family!! 36. Maureen Feeney on October 3, 2022 at 7:46 am

I haven’t found a good tray yet since the only spot to put them is on my toilet and they can fall off fairly easily. So now I just have one towel but I replace it right before a guest walks in the door so it’s fresh and clean for them

Several guests have asked me for air freshener spray, not something I like, but now I include it. My bathrooms all have nice big operable windows, but still, if they want it, they get it. Frequent visitors know that the bathrooms on the floors up or down, compared to that on the main floor, have more privacy, so they use those if they prefer.

My powder room is a blank canvas – very light grey walls, a window and a vanity with a black top. Loved your tip about the full wall of mirrors behind the sink. Just wondering if it can go behind the vanity and the toilet? If not, what mirror do I go with to compliment a black vanity top?

  42. Secondeve on October 3, 2022 at 7:50 am
