Shout out from PDX brother. Your build has been a huge inspiration to my build design. Expecting to launch in about 5 to 6 months on my new journey.

Honestly mate don’t, I live in Maui and own van rentals Hawaii is super anti van life… And really aggressive locals and meth issues. If you do it, don’t stay in Maui go big island or Kauai..

Recommend backing into parking spots if possible. Makes it easier to ride out in a hurry if ever you were to find yourself in a dicey situation.

The State of Hawaii does not have any formal highway rest areas. What they have instead are “scenic points” and “lookouts” which are essentially viewing areas along the sides of highways. Some of these scenic points and lookouts have their own off-ramps with marked parking spaces, while others are just a wide shoulder with no markings.

Some of these scenic points have limited hours. In these cases, there are signs posted prohibiting parking between overnight hours. Smaller scenic points have no signage at all.

The State of Hawaii has enacted a law banning staying overnight in a vehicle while parked along highways and other public areas along a highway. This law is found under, Hawaii Revised Statute, Statewide Traffic Code, 112…

291C-112 Certain uses of parked vehicles prohibited between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.; definition; exceptions.

    (a) No person shall use any vehicle for purposes of human habitation, whether or not the vehicle is designed or equipped for that purpose, while the vehicle is parked on any roadway, street, or highway or other public property between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. or while the vehicle is parked on private property without authorization of the owner or occupant authorizing both the parking of the vehicle there and its use for purposes of human habitation.

    (b) As used in this section “purposes of human habitation” includes use as a dwelling place, living abode, or sleeping place.

    (c) This section does not apply to the parking of vehicles and their use for purposes of human habitation in parks, camps, and other recreational areas in compliance with law and applicable rules and regulations, or under emergency conditions in the interest of safety.

    (d) The department of health shall promulgate rules and regulations, pursuant to chapter 91, necessary for the administration of this section.

There are no statewide maximum time limits for staying at a Hawaii scenic point, except in cases
where a scenic point has signs posted prohibiting parking between overnight hours. Each county, however, has adopted ordinances that prohibit or limit parking along highways between certain hours. These ordinances apply to scenic areas and lookouts.

Hawaii County (which covers the Big Island) has an ordinance (Section 24-202) that prohibits parking a vehicle along a “Federal-Aid Highway” for more than 60 minutes between the hours of 2:00am to 6:00am. Federal-Aid Highway in Hawaii County is generally Highways 11, 13, and 270.

Honolulu County (which covers the island of Oahu) has an ordinance (Sec. 15-16.4) that prohibits parking a vehicle along a “Federal-Aid Highway” for any amount of time between the hours of 2:00am to 5:00am. It also limits parking to just 120 minutes between the hours of 5:00am to 2:00am. Nearly all highways that stretch through Oahu are federally-aided highways. Honolulu County also bans (Sec. 15-14.1) parking anywhere, anytime along Likelike Highway (State Route 63), as well as any freeway (Interstate H1, H2, H3).

Kauai County (which covers the island of Kauai) has an ordinance (Sec. 16-13.4) that prohibits parking a vehicle along a “Federal-Aid Highway” for any amount of time between the hours of 1:00am to 6:00am. Parking is further limited to just two hours between the hours of 6:00am to 1:00am. Federal-Aid Highways in Kauai are generally Routes 50, 56, 58, and 5020.

Maui County (which covers the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe) has an ordinance (10.48.110) that prohibits parking on any road or highway for more than 60 minutes between the hours of 2:00am and 6:00am.

The “shady” spot mustve been in Eureka Ca. Lol

  13. HonuSouv on November 27, 2022 at 9:16 am

As some one who lives on Oahu wouldn’t recommend it. First shipping is very expensive and you need to have a very trustworthy company. That $1500 sounds to good to be true unless you shipping from CA.
Parking are vvverrryy small and you better be very good at 3 point turns and reverse in Parking. Parking overnight is very very limited. And its very expensive to live. You will have to work 2 full time jobs to support yourself and deal with the traffic. If you’re staying really long….all the vehicle stuff is also expensive. Registration, safety inspection, blah blah expensive to be legal in Hawaii. Life is not a hurry and technology is slow.. These is being real with you. But there are lots of things to do. I rather give you the real info. someone else can give you places to do and eat …the exciting stuff. I love it here just preparing you it all not paradise that ppl make it.

When you decide to go to Alaska, you consider using the Alaska Marine highway. You could even camp in your van on the deck I think. Driving back through Canada is cool too.

  20. inoob on November 27, 2022 at 9:22 am

whens the last time you cleaned your van brother

  21. Nick Wind on November 27, 2022 at 9:24 am

Just to be clear you are going to need to ship the van a few days ahead, be without the van and buy yourself airfare to and from Hawaii in the budget. You are not traveling in the van to Hawaii.

  22. J T on November 27, 2022 at 9:25 am

Yea hawaii prly super limited. Check out baja cali 👌

  23. IMP3TIGO on November 27, 2022 at 9:25 am

Great videos man. Only suggestion I have is to make the videos have some sort of ending so that it doesn’t feel quite to abrupt when it suddenly ends. Hope you can ship the van to Hawaii soon, that will be epic.

Everyone needs more than there salary to be financially stable. The the best thing to do with your money is to lnvest it rightly because money left for saving always end up used with no returns..

  43. Ox Sixty One on November 27, 2022 at 9:51 am

How much it costs to shipping ur van to HI?
$1500 one way is not bad. Thanks.

  44. Dale Gibson on November 27, 2022 at 9:51 am

Matson requires all items in the van to be removed before shipping. That means both ways! Lots of $$$ to ship items separately.

  45. Andy Kov on November 27, 2022 at 9:54 am

    Bro, fix you cracked windshield!

Hey Ryan, really enjoying your channel. Regarding Hawai’i, you may wish to reach out to the police department regarding stealth camping. RVs and RV camping is rare in Hawai’i, at least on the island of O’ahu (home of Waikiki beach and the I’olani Palace). The Big Island (Island of Hawai’i) may have more to offer, larger, more rural and every eco system on the planet. In the winter you can stand on the beach in swim trunks and look up at snow on the volcano. O’ahu would be more urban camping. Not sure about Kauai or Maui. Keep in mind also the cost of living, maybe check out a Hawai’i online news paper and look at the grocery ads and gas prices?

I was raised in Hawai’i and it’s so lovely and friendly and the fusion cuisine is amazing!  Imagine the recipes you could learn and try there.

PS: People there are very thoughtful drivers, we don’t honk unless someones life in in harms way and we slow to let merging cars get in front of us. Its considered rude to not let a car onto the road or highway :-). Good luck to you, I hope you get there.
