Oh snap! You’ve let the best kept secret out of the bag! Edisto is one of my very favorite places! I love this island, and have spent many, many vacation dollars here. It is like going back in time with the beauty of the low country, but it’s not for everyone. No amusement parks, little to no fast food places, just little local places with so much charm that beauty that you can’t help but relax.

Edisto sucks. Under no circumstances should you spend your money there. It’s awful. And it smells. And there’s nothing to do. Especially if you have young children, don’t go there. Totally blows.

  10. AFB ⛄⛄ on December 22, 2022 at 2:08 am

    There’s alligators there

Hey, amazing video. Which entrance would you recommend on Edisto beach?? We will have a few grandparents with us and they can’t walk far, so we need to find a nearby entrance and bathrooms. Do they have them on Edisto beach? Mary

  15. P W on December 22, 2022 at 2:13 am

You can’t be serious. The sand is coarse. Best used in concrete.

  16. Nancy Nelson on December 22, 2022 at 2:13 am

This has some real UNC-TV vibes. Nice.

  18. Sara Burrows on December 22, 2022 at 2:15 am

Please take this video down! Edisto belongs to descendents of slaves who continue to live and work on the island. Normal tourism keeps businesses going, but there is little money by SC Preservation society to protect historic sites. This type of video will result on tearing down of historic places and crowding out the residents who’ve lived here for generations.

  19. TheUFS on December 22, 2022 at 2:16 am

I lived in Edisto my whole childhood, and moved to NC about 4 years ago. I hope to visit again soon. Everyone on that island knew my dad. The Salisbury bunch

One thing I appreciate about being from south Mississippi is boiled peanuts are everywhere. In our little town, an elderly man boils them on his covered flatbed trailer on Main St. The Cajun flavored boiled peanuts are great as well.

  22. David Overholt on December 22, 2022 at 2:17 am

    Thanks!

  23. RVing keep it rolling on December 22, 2022 at 2:19 am

Love green boiled peanuts 🥜 don’t like the red. I’m just over the line in NC I love emerald isle. I must say I’ve never seen grits cooked like that I usually use butter, cheese, salt and pepper . Nice video I’ll have to go check Edisto island out.

You forgot about the deer. They’re Everywhere, and they’re not afraid of people. I woke to several at the back of the house we stayed in. They let us walk right up to them.

  26. mike manjo on December 22, 2022 at 2:22 am

Wow! Amazing music choice with the Botany Bay segment! Great job. SC history is so interesting! Jane

  27. jason kilanski on December 22, 2022 at 2:23 am

American history is interesting. At the end, the story that Jim Hutchinson identified spies leaves out that the previous plantation owner he identified was his own father.

It sounds less heroic, but more interesting, in the framing that it was Jim’s family who owned the plantation and slaves. Most people want everything to be black and white, when it’s really a spectrum of gray.

  30. Howard Kerr on December 22, 2022 at 2:26 am

I can’t even guess how many times I passed the I-95 exit for this place in the last 11 years. Normally I get off and " run " through the nearby Wal-Mart for a few necessities and then continue north. The story of my life: missed opportunities.

  31. Anthony Chappell on December 22, 2022 at 2:27 am

OMG, this is one of the best video presentations I have ever seen. You have sparked my interest to go to Edisto Island now. Your discussion of shrimp and grits as well as boiled peanuts has my mouth watering 🙂
The Boneyard Beach footage is awesome. Please continue to share your adventures!

  32. Jesse Revilla on December 22, 2022 at 2:28 am

Beautiful vid; SC is beautiful; Florida does have it’s crowds at the beach but still plenty of places where the crowds are not there and in FLA you can enjoy the actual waters in late March through October. Where as in the SC July & August thats it and still with a slight chill. But I get it; the old South shores are peaceful and bring Southern charm. We’re watching you to capture our trip that way come Oct. Thank you

  33. Ivy Adams on December 22, 2022 at 2:32 am

I actually live on this island, no joke so I searched it up on YouTube to see if people Vlogged about it. Marsh hen mill used to be called geechi boy, and if you are gonna get grits from there be sure to get the “unicorn” grits, they are really good, they are actually just purple corn grits. If you are gonna go to the beach with little kids, make sure to go to the sound side which is the farthest end of the beach, there are hardly any waves, lots of shells, not too windy, however there is sometimes a rip current so be careful.

  34. Dale Lipan on December 22, 2022 at 2:33 am

  40. Tim Anderson on December 22, 2022 at 2:38 am

I have frequented Edisto since I was in elementary school (I’m now 41), and I must say that you absolutely have made a masterpiece here. It is so difficult to capture the beauty of the island, its creatures, and its people, but you did it and did it well. Seriously, thank you for doing this… it’s such a great (and I’m convinced will be timeless) tribute to Edisto.

  41. Hanna Lawrence on December 22, 2022 at 2:39 am

Just an FYI on the hat…unless that hat is an ad hat for the mill where you bought it, GRITS generally stands for Girls Raised In The South. Just didn’t want you to be taken by surprise.

  46. Robert Barnes on December 22, 2022 at 2:45 am

This is from a local book your Edisto state park site at least 4 months in advance. Even in the winter it stays booked. Edisto is an awesome place to visit.

  47. sabtab on December 22, 2022 at 2:47 am

Awesome video! Any sites in Live Oak that you would recommend ?
Did you drive to the beach from your site?

  48. Chris Eph on December 22, 2022 at 2:49 am

Hey y’all ! I may have missed it in a previous episode , but can you tell me more about your scooter and it’s carrier on the rear of your MH ? Great video! We’re local here on Johns Island and a short hop to Edisto . Love seeing y’all check out the places we’ve come to love here in the low country

  49. Edith Wormsley on December 22, 2022 at 2:49 am

This was my happy place. Unfortunately haven’t been there in 2 years due to the passing of my husband in 2021

  50. Jim Ramsay on December 22, 2022 at 2:50 am

Great video. Been coming to Edisto for 40 years and love it. Our only request is for people to come and enjoy, but also know that part of the charm is the pace and the lack of lots of entertainment, pharmacy, chain restaurants, large stores. There are other beach areas with all that – come and enjoy Edisto for what it offers and don’t demand what it doesn’t! Yes, Botany Bay is one of the most amazing places to visit. I never get tired of visits there any time of the year, any weather.
