Sprinter Van vs RV | Let’s Discuss
When Snow and Curt decided to do Full Time Van Life to travel around the world, they had 5 requirements for their vehicle that they would turn into their tiny house on wheels. In this video, they discuss these 5 requirements and tell you why they picked a DIY Sprinter Van over an RV or Motorhome.

The 5 Requirements for Snow and Curt’s Tiny House on Wheels:
1) 4×4
2) Width of Vehicle – easier to drive
3) Add Personal Touches / Custom Design
4) Storage Within The Vehicle
5) Must Fit in a Shipping Container

Looking forward to seeing you in Sweden. Give me a signal if you come to Helsingborg πŸ™‚

great thinking and I like the simplicity of home built ….. when done by competent builder.

Hi! We’re a Millennial couple and we have 3 cats! We’re looking into van/RV life and want to travel the world too! πŸ˜€ Thank you so much for being an inspiration!

Funny, cleaning stations for campervans in Guatamala or Kenia? Next to the road me thinks..Anyway i would build one with a black water tank that can be emptied by a push on a switch.

    All day every day van.

Hi. Great pointers! Comfort is key! And, where does the attic go when you remove it in 2 pieces? Another container? And have do you safely lift the 2 sections off and move them?

  8. jha shua on May 22, 2022 at 9:42 pm

Also durability. i have a 1977 van and it has no leaks. rv’s if not built properly do not last if you are living in them for 10 years, without a lot of upkeep to the seams and outer layers. A steel bodied van is better if you really are keeping it long term.

  9. Heidi xxx on May 22, 2022 at 9:42 pm

And, ok, this is your 10 year plan. It’s a fantastic one. I’m very glad you were able to get out of the rat race, scale down, replace stress with pleasure! I hope it goes really well for you. Have you fleeting thoughts to 2, 3 decades later? Will you be able to afford old age?

  10. PJ T on May 22, 2022 at 9:43 pm

Propane is so dangerous especially if you’re hit. I’ve never understood why more aren’t useing induction cook tops.

  11. Sergio Domingues on May 22, 2022 at 9:44 pm

In your case it makes sense to me that you decided for a van, you had plenty of valid reasons. Most of the times I do not see the point. Converting a van is not cheaper than buying an RV, vans have less livable space, most of them are not even stealth.

Thank you for sharing the valuable information with us. I am wonder how you deal with your cats, when you van has to go into cargo. Are the cats fly with you? Cause there might be quarantine needed in some countries.

  19. Kristine on May 22, 2022 at 9:51 pm

I said it before and I will say it again. Your van is the best layout I have seen on YouTube. I watch a lot of these kind of videos, and I always think of how your van is the best layout for full time. Your bathroom idea is the best. Plus I love all your videos. lol

  20. 80s kid on May 22, 2022 at 9:51 pm

The van is super cool, can park anywhere and sleep and no one will even know. My only concern is perhaps someone will try to break in one night, whilst your asleep

  21. Keith Chambers on May 22, 2022 at 9:52 pm

Can you use the van in winter, when the days are often below freezing up here in the north?

  22. Reubs on May 22, 2022 at 9:55 pm

Hey guys, have been watching a lot of your videos lately and enjoy the content. All the reasons you provided in this video are the same reasons I too got a 4×4 Sprinter to continue around the world. One thing that came up while I was making that decision, was the ULS diesel required for the 2006+ NVC3 Sprinters and potential lack of USLD in many foreign, particularly "third world" countries. As I bought my van in Europe, I got the 4×4 T1N model which isn’t really available in the USA and vice versa for Europe with the newer NVC3 4x4s. However, is this something you guys are concerned about as you venture further into South America and onward to Africa?Β

I did all of Africa on a motorcycle and throughout many of the countries, 87 was the highest octane I could find, but I never paid attention to the diesel.

  23. Henry Geljon on May 22, 2022 at 9:56 pm

Probably the best van I have seen on YouTube

  26. Lawrence F on May 22, 2022 at 10:01 pm

I just came across your channel and subscribed. What model and year of your Sprinter Van?
Top of my concern is How reliable is it? Have it ever left you guys stranded on the road??

  27. hackLAB on May 22, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Thanks. Loved your video. In your opinion should I get a New or used Ram 159 Van for DIY conversion ? I’m an engineer can handle the build just unsure if a used is worth risk without warranty?

My reason for building a van over RV would be cost simply because here a cheap RV would set you back $80k and a decent van build about half.

You made a good choice in vehicles. Sprinters are used all over the world. If you bought an RV in the states it would probably be on an American chassis and parts would be a lot harder to find. Didn’t say what year it was so hope you went with the diesel. Did you ever give consideration to going with a cab & chassis and building your own camper? I can see some advantage.
