Stunning Small Apartment Tour and Makeover + Budget Friendly Home Design Tips from a Pro

In this video, we’re touring a small and super stylish open concept apartment in Toronto, Canada. It recently got a makeover by the one and only Alexandra Gater – a home decor expert who’s a pro at making small spaces look great and feel functional, on a budget.

In Margaree’s apartment, she created designated spaces for lounging, working, and sleeping using simple but strategic techniques like painting a feature wall, placing furniture on an adequately sized rug, and repurposing an existing hutch as a home office. And she also talks about some of the neat thrifted and DIY pieces she included in the transformation that bring the home to life, like the dusty rose arm chairs, the massive ornate full-length mirror, and the cane webbing headboard.

You can follow Alexandra and see more small space makeovers on her YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/AlexandraGater

Amazing space. Studios are really tricky to arrange. I can really like even if I like space and prefer 1 or 2 bdr.

  22. Tara Harmsen on July 10, 2023 at 3:44 pm

I freaking love this renovated apartment. It is so my style!
I only do not see any cat furniture… that cat at least needs a gorgeous cat tree. There is one on zooplus for a 100 bucks and fits the space. I have it.

  23. Taz. on July 10, 2023 at 3:44 pm

    Very cute.

  24. Tyna Edwards on July 10, 2023 at 3:47 pm

The living room area is so smart because the large rug anchors all the furniture to make it seem like a separate room. There are so many features I like. The desk, the mirror, the headboard and night tables all nice. I also like that it has just enough color to make it feel warm and cozy.

  25. Terri on July 10, 2023 at 3:47 pm

Alexandra’s ability to style even the smallest spaces is impressive. But in the case of this "living in the eaves apartment", she has excelled herself.
I must vacate a beautiful flat overlooking the sea. I have lived in this 50 sqm space for 9 years and hate to leave. I am moving into a truly Lilliputian flat of barely 27 sq m in the same "complex". This video of what Alexandra did in the tiny Toronto flat has given me hope that. At age 77, I might just be able to make the transition without too many tears. Thank you for the "inspo", Alexandra and "Team AG"!

Super cute & so functional! ❤

  27. nofreenamestoreg on July 10, 2023 at 3:50 pm

Why did you not add a Murphy bed? Otherwise it looked why better before the transformation.

  28. Amy Sill on July 10, 2023 at 3:50 pm

It’s very pretty but I prefer looking out a window when I work. Also would have been nice to keep the bed orientation the same as before and add add a gauzy curtain to provide privacy and make the bed seem like it’s in own little room.

  29. Gabby Rocio on July 10, 2023 at 3:52 pm

    I love it!

  32. Jared Mayo on July 10, 2023 at 3:57 pm

My gf would like this,it’s her style

  33. Kel Collins on July 10, 2023 at 4:00 pm

Subtle changes can make a difference in the function and aesthetics of a space. I especially like the hutch conversion into a desk because the pre-existing oak built-in adds such a character bonus as well as allows multiple uses of the open area around it.

  34. Micha on July 10, 2023 at 4:02 pm

Looks really nice but one cannot stratch on that sofa 🙁 the armchairs look good but are helpful only when gueats are there

  35. Marianne O'Sullivan on July 10, 2023 at 4:04 pm

Super soft & cute. Love it! Environment makes all the difference. ❤

  36. Fara Gräf on July 10, 2023 at 4:04 pm

looks nice, but i wouldn’t always have a look on the bed. i prefer look to the window. and where is cats climbing area?

  37. Kim Price on July 10, 2023 at 4:07 pm

This is my favorite studio you’ve designed /decorated. Love it.

I like how she explains everything, very helpful!

  43. Solid State on July 10, 2023 at 4:15 pm

I’d totally switch out the bed, rotate it and put a white curtain in front so the bed isn’t the center of the attention. The workspace on the other hand is amazing.

  44. Renee Dennis on July 10, 2023 at 4:15 pm

    Nice!
