The 10 BIG Interior Design Trends of 2020

The 10 BIG Interior Design Trends of 2020

Design trends ebb and flow, like fashion! I have pulled together 10 favorite trends I’m spotting for 2020, as we enter a new decade. It’s always interesting to see how things come back around over time. Take for example, the Art Deco era … which stirred up in the 1920s, just before World War 1. This period heavily influenced architecture in some of our largest cities across America. Take NYC and Chicago for starters!

What we’re seeing now is a revival of this mix of modern, glamorous style with a progressive tech savvy push. Lines are softer in our architecture and patterns, while finishes maintain matte black in the foreground.

To kick off my trends video, Joey and I took the babies to see the Blanton Art Museum in Austin. Here, I’m standing in front of the Ellsworth Kelly “Austin” building.

While home remodels can be pricey, I’m hoping these tips shared will provide ideas that are tangible to tackle this year in your own home.

I would love to work with you personally on any level Kim. You have taught me so much in 30 minutes than any of the art and design books or travels I have done on my own. My email is: Jordanmariee@me.com, I am North Austin and just think the world of your perspective and teaching styles. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your new born! You truly are the "jack of all trades" and now motherhood too. It’s like who’s Jack? ahhaha

You love the Ellsworth Kelly building and commented about the architecture. Can you tell me who designed it (I bet not)? Did you give any credit to the architects of the building? I don’t think so.

Just what I needed. I just painted over my earth tones that I have had forever. My living room is now a white/ pink that only has a pink tint at night. I guess I will be transitioning blue into this mix. It just takes me so long to make a design decision and I never feel like my home is done or right.

Hi Kim, I’ve been on furniture convention in Cologne/Germany last weekend and recognized the same trends in Europe as well. Actually for my personal taste it was a bit too dark (dark furniture/dark thick velvets) even it seems to be cozy. I prefer more bright but also very natural Scandinavian style with full wood furniture and natural materials. I recognized also lots of furniture like chairs and tables out of transparent plastic in many colors and simple forms.

Love the opening with Joey! I’ve said the exact same thing "how long did it take to get out of the house"? Had me chuckling to myself! Great Video Kim!

Really interesting but not for me. I do not like dark colours in rooms as I find it so depressing. Even in Ikea last year, they had room sets in really dark colours and I could not even go into them I found them so dark and depressing, a definate turn off for me I’m afraid, but each to their own. I’ll just have to be non trendy in my light bright house with my neutral earthy tones.
