The BEST TOILET For Van Life??? Hint: not composting

This video covers the new toilet that I installed in my sprinter van: the new Separett Tiny. Not only do we install and discuss how this toilet works, but we also compare it to all of the most popular alternative toilets in vanlife such as composting toilets, cassette/black tank toilets, and dry flush toilets. Hope you enjoy!

    Thanks for the idea starting van life now

    Laveo dry flush all the way. The *absolute* best toilet. They now sell a powder additive to solidify urine into a gel for easier disposal.

    Isn’t sort of icky to empty the solid bucket even though it has a bag?????

    En español 😫

    Or use a cassette toilet correctly. If you don’t install a fan, and leave the lid open on this one I’m sure it’d smell quite terrible.
    If you don’t use your bathroom correctly it’s not gonna be pleasant.

    A lot of dumbs don’t use the tablets you put in to disintegrate the waste, and the anti-smell thing. The contents can be dumped into a regular toilet.

    Damn girl *smack* lmao; how much are they assking?

    holy shit……literally……. damned expensive throne…… but it nice looking

  8. Martin Chamberlain on June 11, 2022 at 11:07 pm

    Good grief, this is one expensive toilet in Canada! Otherwise a great video!

  9. Thoth Al Khem on June 11, 2022 at 11:07 pm

    So if you got drunk and can’t find your van just smell for fresh or old shit coming from the vent…..HELL NO.

  10. Bram Dasu on June 11, 2022 at 11:09 pm

    I think I would rather add the urine collection system to the diaper genie. The last thing I want to do in the closed environment of a van is to try sealing up what is in essence a plastic trash bag and or dealing with removing the seal holding the trash bag in place.

    Where do you mount the Ma Deuce?

  12. Jonboy on June 11, 2022 at 11:11 pm

    I have used this toilet in my camper for about a year now, I would never have a thetford cassette style toilet again, it’s unbelievable but true that this smells less than toilet that has the both mixed together, don’t get me wrong I wish it was cheaper as it’s a pricey toilet but worth every penny in my opinion

  13. Char of Heart on June 11, 2022 at 11:12 pm

    After my exposure to the Thefford 2.5 and the plain bucket and wood chips, might like this one. There’s still the bag dumping which I might put chips in the bottom for smell and moisture control. Everything else is what I already do except this toilet would allow me avoid dumping every other or every two days.

    The bucket method you use a lot of chips to absorb the liquids and cover the solids. So it gets heavy for light lifters or disabled and needs to be done every 3rd day or night. The easy toilet showed up in recommended so I found this channel for more vanlife ideas. Thanks for sharing! 🤗❤️👍🏾💯

    anyone try adding cedar chips or the like to poo bucket…just enough ?

  15. Donna S on June 11, 2022 at 11:15 pm

    When using 2nd or 3rd use for #2, and the back opens, I find it hard to believe there’s not an immediate stink. Did I miss something ?
    I get in between uses smell is contained, but when it’s opened by seated on it for next use what prevents the stink from filling the room??

    How do you clean it? Love This Toilet!

  17. tasha hillestad on June 11, 2022 at 11:19 pm

    I want that toilet. My current toilet(black water tank toilet) has leaked twice now in my van. A warning to other van lifers, do not go cheap when buying the toilet for your van. Cheap toilets can have faulty caps and are more messy to clean in general.

  18. Newlight Forward on June 11, 2022 at 11:19 pm

    I just built my composting toilet for my skoolie…but I’d love to be able to incorporate something like that lid/ lever that would easily move out of the way. My fav part of this design.

  19. mick g on June 11, 2022 at 11:21 pm

    human waste is not a good composting material.. and that’s no poop !

  20. HalloweenFanatic on June 11, 2022 at 11:22 pm

    The one with the bag… A cheaper system is getting a 5-gallon bucket and putting regular bags in it. They make cheap $15-$20 seats that clamp onto the 5-gallon bucket too. It’s not pretty but one could always make a plywood base to slip the bucket into to make it more like a toilet. Then you could toss your waste in the trash or in a big burn barrel where you burn your trash even.

  21. Avanteeka Bakshi on June 11, 2022 at 11:22 pm

    But can’t you see all the poop when changing the bag?!!!

  22. Eddie Nolan on June 11, 2022 at 11:23 pm

    Dumping bags of shit where though? A bin isn’t for shit. Like many canal boaters in the UK who thought they could dump their month old "composted" bags of shit into the bins supplied by the canal company, they were told "composted" shit bags aren’t allowed to go in bins, because they aren’t compost, they’re shit. Its a health hazard to be honest. A cassette toilet emptied into gas station toilet, or truly composted waste (6 months) are the only responsible options in my opinion.

  23. Jake Myera on June 11, 2022 at 11:23 pm

    Ok

    6:53 "masquerading toilets"
    Heh, fooled ya! I’m not a real toilet!

  25. The Dali Llama on June 11, 2022 at 11:27 pm

    Is one style of toilet better for "solids" that aren’t that solid?

  26. Paul White on June 11, 2022 at 11:27 pm

    Your point about how long it takes for a composting toilet takes to actually compost is a very interesting valid one. I also agree that adding composting material such as sawdust or wood chips is a waste of space and unnecessary. Thank you for showing us this fairly new and efficient unit. Simple styling is best and it does look good too.

  27. Toka Peka on June 11, 2022 at 11:28 pm

    just poop at mcdonalds. If you’re in the wild, poop in the bush, behind a tree, in a lake. Saves money and benefits the environment

    what is the brand and where can I buy
    that bathroom enclosure? What model number is that Separette toilet? Very informative video. Thank you

    The video I’ve been looking for 💚

    That shower cabin + toilet combo seemed weird, but after some thinking it looks ingenious:
    – the toilet itself can be washed w/o any trouble and you don’t have to be scared of urine getting outside of toilet;
    – you can sit while showering;
    – shower cabin is likely to be sealed, thus preventing escape of odors outside of it;
    – both toilet and shower cabin need ventilation, therefore you can use only one ventilation system;
    – you can do your business even while showering (avoids pollution of greywater with urine if you suddenly have to pee while showering);
    – you can even use it as a poor man’s bidet (you shouldn’t, to prevent pollution of greywater, but still).

    you missed the incinerating toilet… i have ordered the cinderella and hope its all it claims … it better for 5000.00

  32. Olivia Gray on June 11, 2022 at 11:32 pm

    What happens when women pee? Can we not sit down all the way? because if we put our full body on the seat it’ll open up the poo hole right…?

  33. k hanna on June 11, 2022 at 11:33 pm

    Aesthetically and design wise it is the BEST toilet out there. Never in my years of living did I think I would write a sentence like this. But it really is!

  34. Charles Hood on June 11, 2022 at 11:33 pm

    If you absolutely can’t handle the thought of touching any “stuff”, then nothing beats the Laveo Dry Flush toilet. It’s worth the price of the bags. If you can afford to go camping, then you can afford the bags. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  35. Mike van Bike on June 11, 2022 at 11:35 pm

    11:10 "you can just plop" 😆

  36. Amanda Alley on June 11, 2022 at 11:36 pm

    Ahhh I am so upset now after watching this.. I almost bought this toilet 3 days ago, but the distributor here in Australia said it’s not a good idea to use in a shower because of the electricity. So I just ordered the natures head. Bugga I really wanted this one cause it’s so much nicer looking and I didn’t want to deal with compost which was useless anyways. Wahhh 😫

    Very nice man

  38. Pseudorandomly on June 11, 2022 at 11:38 pm

    For some of us, that solids container is gonna have a lot of liquid in it, if you know what I mean …

  39. pacino on June 11, 2022 at 11:40 pm

    just use a simple regular toilet covering plastic bags; for every poop uses a new bag.

  40. Intercat on June 11, 2022 at 11:40 pm

    Human poop is dangerous. We dump out (sorry) microbes that are a real problem. This toilet eliminates the nasty smell for the owner, but you are dumping (SORRY!) microbes into the landfill that can leach out and hurt the world. The question is not "How pretty is your toilet?" (yours is very pretty), nor "How do you poop indoors without being smelly?" (good job on that one), but "What do you do with that bag of poop after you take it out of the van?" And there, you have become the problem.

  41. steve hansen on June 11, 2022 at 11:41 pm

    So the vent fan is to stop people from parking in the spot next to you?

  42. Cheryl Kruisheer on June 11, 2022 at 11:41 pm

    Such a clear and short explanation. Thank you for geeking out.

  43. bearripper on June 11, 2022 at 11:42 pm

    Idk about you but i see a pretty glaring problem with this 2 part toilet. unless you poop at some kinda angle your gonna be shitting all over the liquids part and if you have say diarrhea you can imagine the splash back and now you have poo in the pee area. Another thing if you throw up in that your gonna be wearing most of what you just threw up.
