It’s certainly a lot of work to live in a van. I can do it just fine until I have to work to make money. I can’t work (in the film industry) and van life at the same time. Finding a shower, a place to pee, a place to get water, takes up a lot of time and energy! Best of luck to you and wherever life takes you next!

Long weekend and the occasional long trip is about as much as I would want to do.

  11. Ritebowl on November 15, 2022 at 8:39 am

Dude I use my van for work on the weekends. My girlfriend and I travel, do events and sell jewelry for work. It saves us so much money not having to get hotel rooms. It’s not small either. It’s a 2010 Chevy express AWD with a 3” lift, solar, 3000 watts of power, a shower, rv toilet, and is over 9’ tall with the top on it I installed. So plenty of head room and walking room. Ladder on the side and a massive roof rack so we can hang up top. I love it and it’s very useful but let me tell ya. After 2-3 days of being in it and we are driving home. I can’t wait to hit my couch and watch tv. My bed feels like I’m in a cloud when I go to bed at night and my van bed isn’t cheap. My living room and watching tv on a 75 inch tv is like heaven. So I totally get it. I could never just live in my van. You do appreciate all those things you have at home. Some people just aren’t cut out for van life. I’m one of them. I totally get it and I hope you enjoy you new apartment. Thanks for sharing.

    What wise people don’t own : 50" TV… Microwave…
Maybe some basic conscious Life choices are out of wack here.
Glad at figured it out in my twenties.

  14. philip J Dry on November 15, 2022 at 8:41 am

That’s why I invested heavy for years and won’t do van life until I can cover the rent and food

  15. R S on November 15, 2022 at 8:42 am

I was originally searching youtube for van life content, so considering you’re no longer a van lifer I probably shouldn’t subscribe.. but because you seem like a really cool guy I definitely will 👍. I’m glad you’re enjoying your new apartment 😊 ✌️

  20. velma smith on November 15, 2022 at 8:49 am

Van life seems so hard I couldn’t do it, having to find some place to take care of your personal needs just drive me nuts and to mention it’s so dangerous, of course there’s much more, but those two things I just can’t give it up. Enjoy your apartment.

  21. Jane Burton on November 15, 2022 at 8:49 am

Hi William – I just came across your channel by accident as have been checking out various RV and Van videos on UTube.
Thanks for your candid wake up call about actual life on the road. It all sounds very romantic and free but there are a lot of realities to deal with that it’s good to know about.
Maybe in the future you will still be able to do some weekend or vacation travelling.
For myself – a bathroom/shower is an absolute must and I would likely opt for a smaller compact trailer I could pull so that my vehicle was independent of my RV.
I see on UTube that there are all kinds of makes & models now as it’s become so expensive to stay in motels and inns etc. Also covid opened our eyes to having to isolate plus most travel stops were closed during the pandemic.
Wish you well with your apartment and future endeavours. Cheers!

  22. Kathleen McCormick on November 15, 2022 at 8:49 am

I agree. I traveled around in my van for a couple of years. I went all over North America. It was wonderful. But I have now bought a home in a small town in New Mexico that I traveled through frequently and got to know. Everything is so much easier, convenient and comfortable. Traveling in a van is hard. It’s an adventure for sure and I am so glad I did it. The memories of all the places I went to and what I experienced are precious to me but I’m glad I have a place where I feel I am at home now.

Dude, I have sold my van a year ago now

  24. Eric Nata on November 15, 2022 at 8:51 am

I always wondered if people really like to drive and travel all over the country then why not become a semi truck driver where they can earn good money at same time.

  27. web3 wizard on November 15, 2022 at 8:54 am

What’s the purpose of living a van life if you are going to live in an expensive city haha

  28. B.C splat briancross on November 15, 2022 at 8:54 am

Put Jesus our Lord and savior at the center

  29. Surf Siren on November 15, 2022 at 8:58 am

I really wanted to do the vanlife thing, especially during the pandemic. I watched the videos endlessly and converted my crossover (no build), and went camping a lot, but kept an apartment. Couldn’t do the lack of bathroom thing at 50 and San Diego is NOT the place to do it. It is pretty much illegal here and it is too hot for too many months anyway. I am glad I got over it before I went for it and got rid of everything. I did however downsize to a studio and got rid of "stuff" that would prevent me from being able to pack and move in a day. I am glad that I have everything I need to live in my small SUV if had to.👍🏻😁

I LOVE that dog! That face!!!!

  31. philip J Dry on November 15, 2022 at 8:59 am

The reason why most fail at van life is because they jump into ice cold water. You have to ease yourself into it. Do some vacations to other cities, do Airbnb for the weekend. Camp out on the beach or camp for a week. Gain experience and knowledge and increase your endurance. A big problem is isolation. You are alone in a strange place with no familiar faces. Everyone becomes a possibility threat and that will lead you to feel better staying inside your van. So if you do van life, stay close to friends and family till you feel you can travel. Being able to communicate with people you know and can relate to helps ease the negative feelings. The silence can overwhelm people. When you do travel, find a group you can travel with. The real fear of being robbed or car jacked will give van lifers anxiety and stress. So if you can travel with a group, places with 24 hour security and a fence around you. Those 3 things will make you sleep easy at night and that is everything. Without layers of protection people can’t feel comfortable doing it. And having others with you, a community is a necessity otherwise you’ll dig a hobbit hole and won’t ever leave it lol

    What do you sell please?

  33. cdLady54 _ on November 15, 2022 at 9:06 am

Its one thing to have extended vacation, but we all need a home base. Glad you found that out. Stay safe and enjoy life.

  39. TDA DIY on November 15, 2022 at 9:14 am

No way could i live like a nomad. I have a remodeling business and need a garage for tools etc. I like having a house with low expenses and some room to move around. Im actually looking forward to the housing market downturn so i can get a place with more property. My current place was a foreclosure i picked up in 2009 for $11k cash. 1250 SF house on a slab on 3/8 acre 10 miles outside of Detroit. Cheap living and peaceful quiet neighborhood with vacant lots next door.

  40. bigdaddy209 on November 15, 2022 at 9:18 am

Why not buy a 26 ft RV , you just didn’t want to do it anymore.

  41. LuckyGuu on November 15, 2022 at 9:18 am

PLEASE COOK: LARGE MUFFINS WITH TOO MANY CRANBERRIES(YUM!) , Steamed Trout, Fish tacos, Blueberry pancakes and Rabbit any style.🦞🦞🦞🦞🦞🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜I used enjoy SD buffets 15 years ago. I think there was an Indian buffet on Black Mountain Rd, if memory serves. The bussers came to our table(just two of us) 26 times! ha ha! {back living in Delaware now ☹️}∆

  42. K H on November 15, 2022 at 9:18 am

It could be that the grass is always on the other side. People want to dream and make an escape without imagining the downside.

  43. DjAlanBarratt on November 15, 2022 at 9:19 am

I personally think that you missed a beat, you could of documented your troubles, and highlight the actual realities of starting out in van life, and your business, cause you can work from anywhere, so document that also, and make sure your work, youtube is your side hustle, and that’s actual reality tv and we’d eat it up

  44. Seascape185 on November 15, 2022 at 9:19 am

Maybe this is just a respite and you will build a van with a bathroom and not be so lazy about cooking ? Are you lazy about cooking in your apartment or do you call door sash 😜Anyway you could always plan better and mao out state parks and make reservations as well as boondoxking sights for other vanlifers where you become more of the community ! Theee are thousands upon thousands of private farm lands open to you as well once you are with in the community .Are you friends with other YouTubers that also do this ? I think this is orobibly the price that’s missing in your life ! If this life style was available when I was growing up I would have done it in a heartbeat ! So my next life awaits .Good luck life is a journey not a destination may you stay in the open road my friend !
