Hey 🙂 I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4×4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road – I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I’ll see you out on that open road 🚐

**My van is a 2019 Ram ProMaster 1500 High Roof, 136″ WB with 33K miles**

I’m a tattoo artist with a large group of clients in three central locations, I’ve just acquired a van to take advantage of some travel life in between those destinations.
Currently I do live in the van but I can if needed making those trips easy.

I’ve been in technology for 22 years, and was working from home 100% for 14 years. Love the remote work lifestyle, and great to hear your experience and advice on it. Thanks.

I’m having an existential crisis watching these type of videos. This will never be possible for me as a healthcare worker. WHY DID I CHOOSE TO BE A COMPASSIONATE PERSON??

  8. Sarah Homan on August 6, 2023 at 4:01 pm

I currently work 100% remotely and am a dog mom and SFH homeowner. I’m considering RV life (van life poses too many challenges to me as a single person) as an alternative to selling my home and buying a townhome. I think the only major thing stopping me is I want my non-dog-friendly pitbull to have the space (fenced yard or basement) to have the zoomies and run free.
I love these tips and it’s given me a lot to think of, both with the pros and cons of van/RV living. Thank you for sharing!w

How do you let people know about your pet and house sits? I have been doing this about 5 years and have excellent references.

  10. Anthony Agonias on August 6, 2023 at 4:06 pm

I don’t know why I feel the need to learn some Ben Howard covers all of a sudden. Old Pine, Only Love, and/or Conrad would be my top picks.

Hi. I’m really hoping to go into Vanlife but I don’t know what job to do. I didn’t go to college so I don’t have a degree so I don’t think anyone will hire me.

  15. Vintage MovieLover on August 6, 2023 at 4:10 pm

You can’t just pick up any of these jobs without qualifications or experience, unless you have contacts or are related to "somebody" 🙄 Only exception being making something but then you need space and equipment depending on what you make.

  16. Tim Hill on August 6, 2023 at 4:11 pm

Thank you so much for the tips. I know when I get started I won’t have a problem.

I’ve been looking for a Wealthfront referral link for a while that would be meaningful. What I mean is that there’s a lot of investment advice youtubers that have referral links on their very large channels and probably rake in tons of fee-waiver benefits from them, but I wanted to find someone where I could get the benefit I wanted for signing up without adding to the machine of generating stacking fee waivers for someone that probably don’t even need them. I found your channel from searching posts on youtube about Wealthfront and I’m happy I did.

Contract welder and live out of a small camper. Travel from state to state following bigger jobs. When there is nothing I continue to travel usually to new waters and make my income by carving and making custom fishing lures in my spare time. When I’m not welding or carving, I’m fishing 😊. I’d like to get into making videos of the process.

Content creation…youtube wants to much to monetize your content. Thats why I made a channel over at rumble..monetize is instant and they pay more.

I have been a seller on eBay for over 8 years now. I make approx $40-45k profit yearly working part-time (more of a side hustle). Unfortunately, I’m not sure how compatible this would be with “Van life” due to the storage issue. I guess I could focus more on the smaller items like jewelry or collectibles like trading cards. But how would this work with not having an address? Please advise

I loved your video and videos❤. Love your content and I must say you are super informative. I work remotely, i am a virtual assistant and online business manager. I love to hear your takes on the down sides.

Environmental engineering consultant, working full time remotely for my own company.

Mystery shopping would make a lot of sense, like restaurants or auditing gas stations. When in remote areas, sometimes gas station audits can pay a lot of money and a free couple of gallons of gas.

  29. Gail Andrews on August 6, 2023 at 4:25 pm

I love working remotely. Hope to one day to live in a van and or RV. I do have 3 dogs. Working on getting items I need like lens for my camera, etc.,

Many years ago i did transcription. Pay wasn’t great but it was enough and I could do it as much or as little as I wanted.

  31. johnny comelately on August 6, 2023 at 4:28 pm

This is a very good quality video, thank you.
I have done equities trading for years with a relatively small amount of capital. It is satisfactory financially and suits all those parameters you mention.

  32. Z zandigiacomo on August 6, 2023 at 4:28 pm

I have been working remotely for 3 years. I live in Germany and teach English as a second language. I love working from home. I would love to live in a van one day and travel full time. You’re videos are really inspirational. The video work is quite lovely.

  33. D Lee on August 6, 2023 at 4:29 pm

Man I wish I could work my forklift job remotely. That’d be dope! A remote controlled forklift lol. I’d sit in my van in the mountains or on a beach in Cali with a VR setup and remotely drive my forklift LOL. Maybe someday…..

  34. A2Be on August 6, 2023 at 4:30 pm

As a fellow photographer myself, I would love to hear how one becomes a professional outdoor photographer. I think most of us would agree that most of us would love to get paid to create images/content for clients, but how did you do it?

  35. t p on August 6, 2023 at 4:32 pm

Working remotely as IT staff, the company has no plans at this time to have the IT staff come back to the building. Interestingly some of the IT staff needed the face to face time so much that they have left the company because working remotely is not for them.

  36. CJ Kennedy on August 6, 2023 at 4:33 pm

Im a music event rigger that travels all around the country working Large Festivals and Arenas with amenities that vary drastically from one location to the next. Ive been looking into moving into van life for 10 yrs, and your videos being very well cinematicly made, are also very informative. I just purchased a Sprinter, and am also living small so I can afford to buy my own land/ home situation. And its not even living that small when the word is so big right outside your door. <3

I’m trying to be a Forex trader (still new) So I basically just look at the price graph over different currencies and guess if the price will go up or down:) My goal is to make my account grow 10% per month:) It’s a ton of forex trading videos here on Youtube

Fellow introvert who just dissolved her therapy office/art studio storefront, to work remotely and be able to travel again, so this was SO helpful, thank you:) Love your channel, such gorgeous and Professional camera work

  43. Rob Sadler on August 6, 2023 at 4:44 pm

Christian, just wanted to mention that people can "scope" (editing) court reporter transcripts. All you need is the software, occasional internet connection to download a zip file, edit the file and upload and send to court reporter. This pays by the page, and it is something I plan to do after I retire, and it can be done remotely!

  44. ENSO LLC on August 6, 2023 at 4:44 pm

Becoming a trader in the stock market. Start with 5k, think it as your tuition to join.
Learn the basics first before thinking about making money.
When do it right, its far cheaper than any University and you will be free from working for someone else.

  45. Bucky Russel Scribner on August 6, 2023 at 4:46 pm

Everything you mentioned for earning remote income already has a saturated overload of people already doing it. There is no "good" or "decent" income with any of them. The return in your time investing in doing any of these is not worth it.

  46. Leanne Meissner on August 6, 2023 at 4:48 pm

O.K. Ben Howard "Promise" – listened to it – yep! Came by way of your "Let’s Talk" video. "Promise" lyrics made me think, ‘Home is wherever you dare to love, not where the illusion of safety and the insanity of mundane sacrifices live.’ You packed a lot of info in a very succinct presentation on this one. Good job! Eat More Broccoli – Hee-hee!

Christian stop ✋, your just so smart and beautiful not surprised you have or are still doing modeling.

I really like the arrangement in your van. If you could you give me a ballpark figure on how much it would cost and how long would it take….

  49. johanan on August 6, 2023 at 4:53 pm

You are so beautiful. I want to marry someone like you.
