FYI for anyone getting ideas on trying this, car camping is ILLEGAL on O’ahu! Stop promoting illegal activity please. ā˜¹ļø Even our own homeless aren’t allowed to car camp so tourists definitely should not. If you see any posts for campervan rentals please call the owner or report their business because they are lying to you and trying to make money off of tourists that don’t know they’re breaking the law. Please be a responsible and law-abiding tourist. Locals have no problem calling the cops on campervans. Better to be safe and book a legal accommodation.

Not Pono to encourage illegal camping in a van in Hawaii. Don’t fall for it because if caught you will be fined, also kind of hard to relax and go to sleep when you’re worried if you will be caught. Hawaii residents are aware of the problem with illegal camping in vans and they keep a watchful eye in their neighborhoods, there are also many neighborhood watch groups and they will definitely call the police if they encounter you sleeping in a van or if there’s a vehicle they do not recognize parked in the area. Also most public restrooms are locked overnight due to vandalism so you are shit outta luck in that department if you gotta go. There are many legal b&b’s to stay in and they are much cheaper than hotel room. Don’t break the law when on vacation in Hawaii. Crime has risen a great deal throughout the Hawaiian islands and the thieves have been busting windows in vehicles parked around the island and stealing whatever they can get their hands on, when staying in a legal rental you can leave your valuables locked up but in a rental van you are vulnerable.

Why are you promoting illegal activity. You are gonna get someone hurt! There’s no "van life" in Hawai’i. No infrastructure. No place to dump your waste and you’re telling people to go into residential neighborhoods? What you dont think the people who LIVE there need to park? You are the exact kind of tourist locals hate. Cheap, disrespectful and entitled.
