very FIRST RV PARK Experience || BEST Place to CAMP in Dallas, TX: Hickory Creek Campground
WOW! I cannot believe we arrived in our first destination: Dallas, TX. We are staying at an army corps of engineers park: Hickory Creek Campground. We honestly cannot say enough good things about this first campground.
We first booked site #12, however, the spot was on a small hill & we didn’t believe it would fit our 42” 5th wheel (Jayco 355mbqs) very well so we went back to the front to see if we could switch.
The park hosts were amazing & we picked site #18 which was wonderful. Although, after driving around the entire campground we believe SITE #9 is the best site in the entire park. It would have given us outstanding views and was a good distance from the water with having little kids. (All sites had partial hookups: electric/water, dump stations available at the entry)
We only spent 3 days in Dallas. The first day we just relaxed in the RV and went and got groceries from walmart pick up. This was a good recovery day after 2 full days of travel.
On Wednesday we went to the Fort Worth Stockyards and watched the cattle drive. They have a daily cattle drive at 11:30AM & 4PM. It was a very historical site and the whole family enjoyed visiting.
Once we got back from the stockyards we all took naps and then later in the afternoon we went on a nature hike and walk. The campground had a great paved nature walk that ran the entire width of the campground. At the end of the walk there were bathrooms and an amazing view over the lake.
We honestly could not have picked a better RV Campground for our First RV PARK experience. We would highly suggest this campground to someone who wants to be in a woods type setting, but also close to the city.

Looks like Shiloh is getting the hang of the leash!
This is so cool to see because I used to live just a few blocks up the road from that park when I was a little kid in the late 80’s and early 90’s. But I moved to New Jersey when I was 8, in 1994. I used to take walks up there with my family all the time and we went fishing and I used to go in the lake sometimes, or sometimes we’d take the dog for a swim. I’m watching this because I’m curious if I’ll recognize anything, but I’d be surprised if I did because it’s such a big area and I don’t know if you were in the part that was down the street from my old house. I used to live on Hickory Lane.
Did they try skipping some rocks in the lake?
I can’t wait to see how it is boondocking! I’d be a bit nervous 😬 I’m living vicariously through you guys!
Thanks for sharing! This campground is close to us. We’ll have to check it out. 👍 Subscribed to follow your journey (#114). 😀 I look forward to our channels growing together on YouTube. 🎶
