Do you have to worry about expansion on stairs?

  2. Glo Luskey on May 2, 2022 at 8:41 pm

I have watched so many tutorials that left me still feeling uneasy about tackling this project. You explained this so well I actually feel like I can do this now having watched this, thank you.

Any recommendations on how to transition from a top step which meets LVP that is running perpendicular with the stair treads? It would be great if I could have the nosing on the top step butt up and look flush next to the perpendicular planks on our second floor. Any ideas?

  9. Keng Jee Thao on May 2, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Do you need nail down the plank? Or glue just fine?

  10. Paul Gugger on May 2, 2022 at 8:52 pm

When adhering risers to the stairs do i need to use any additional screws or nails to hold the vinyl/mdf in place or will the adhesive do the trick on its own? Thanks

    Next time try D 815

  14. J Bull on May 2, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Great video Southern Boys. Enjoyed the details. I wonder why you didn’t use that handy scribing tool to measure the mdf for the riser tho.

Hey great video man thank you for the useful info your videos are by far the most helpful! Quick question i am looking to install vinyl planks on my wooden steps but i am concerned about the noise in my tenants apartment below. Can I use an acoustical underlayment to deaden the sound? If so how would i install these? Not sure if they glue down or not.

My secret weapon is a heat gun…I live in Canada so it’s cold….throw a heat gun on high for 25 30 seconds back and forth with a fresh blade, will cut like butter. Door jambs , heavy risers, full length width cuts anything you wish!

  28. Corinne Lutter on May 2, 2022 at 9:11 pm

What do you do when the existing stair treads (circa 1975) are uneven (cupped) front to back? So basically there is a hump in the middle of tread running the length of the tread. How do you level it so the LVP has support along it’s entire length? I was thinking shims, but that would leave gaps and therefore no support in spots, which I think might create spongy spots.

You took your time with every step and made it perfect! But, I’m wondering are you not using baseboards? Also, how come you didn’t use weights?

  37. Woodnoober on May 2, 2022 at 9:22 pm

I’ve noticed other folks strip the backing off of each plank so that the glue works better. You mentioned that the flooring you used has cork so it wasn’t necessary. Is there a special glue that works best with cork or would any construction adhesive work? I’m about to put some cork-backed vinyl flooring on our stairs and I can’t seem to find a good answer and I don’t want to screw it up.

  38. Linda Alaimoana on May 2, 2022 at 9:24 pm

If my stairs treads are too rough, can I use the same MDF for an underlayment?

  39. DB Hobbes on May 2, 2022 at 9:25 pm

How much can I expect to pay someone to install vinyl plank on 12 steps ?

Can ardex be used as the primary glue for the whole plank? Or just the nose?

Should the underlayment on each vinyl plank be removed?

  46. Norman Shigeyasu on May 2, 2022 at 9:31 pm

Great video on vinyl plank on stairs. My home has floating steps and I want to have vinyl planks installed. Is this something not typically done? I have not seen any videos on how this should be done.

  50. Brian Boru on May 2, 2022 at 9:38 pm

Great video, thanks. So you don’t adhere the tread to the stairs? Only the nose to the tread? What if the tread moves while you’re walking on it?
