Vinyl Plank Flooring – Review After One Year in Our Home!

Vinyl Plank Flooring – Review After One Year in Our Home!

I saw the issues that came with hardwood floors first hand time after time doing service work for new home construction. I also used laminate in a couple of my own homes as an affordable alternative to hardwood but had issues in the first year with water and chipping.

We decided to install luxury vinyl plank when we built our current home. Its been over one year since we moved into our home, and I wanted to take a few minutes to walk through and show you how it has held up in terms of scratches and dings, spills, and humidity, and temperature changes!

Why no shoe moulding to finish the transition from flooring to baseboard?

  2. Jarrod Heard on April 17, 2022 at 6:30 pm

Love the review, thank you. Sorry if I missed it, but is there a link to this vinyl flooring product?

  3. Cathy Stratton on April 17, 2022 at 6:31 pm

So what is the brand of this product? It looks lovely.

  4. Blackberry on April 17, 2022 at 6:32 pm

I want to know the product and the thickness and color, brand and we buy online

  5. Kevin LaTour on April 17, 2022 at 6:32 pm

Love the choice and look of the product. Yes I have a few questions : How does it feel when you walk on it ? Is it obvious it is vinyl flooring when you walk on it ? Does it have a obvious sound to it that makes you realize its vinyl flooring ? And most importantly, is it at all slippery when dry or wet ? Thanks looks great

  6. Ginger Monette on April 17, 2022 at 6:32 pm

Does the dog slip and slide on the floor or does the vinyl give him some traction?

  7. Rich H on April 17, 2022 at 6:33 pm

Video is so jerky it made me sick.

  8. CJN4737 on April 17, 2022 at 6:33 pm

You can tell that plank is garbage quality by the way its all wavy and flexible in his hand. A real quality peice of vinyl plank will be 7-8 mm thicc and will not look like a floppy schlong when you hold it.

  9. Russell Stocker on April 17, 2022 at 6:37 pm

Hi, the flooring is looking great. How’s it holding up? Could you let me what product you used? Many thanks.

Great review. We have just got LVT on our floors in December ’21. It is in hall, bathroom, utility, living/dining/kitchen. It is great! We were renovating and have only 1 access to house so EVERYTHING comes in/out across these floors. So easy to keep/clean. No marks/scratches at all. We did get a floor leveling cement down first to ensure floor was perfectly level and also got an underlay down but honestly its perfect. We are delighted with it and everyone who has seen it loves it too. Would highly recommend.

  15. Rose Edwards on April 17, 2022 at 6:49 pm

Can you put this on top of glued down wooden laminate flooring.

  16. ADU IBAR on April 17, 2022 at 6:50 pm

    You just repeated that twice?

The hospital where my mom works has these vinyl sheets that imitate wooden planks, in the corridors and waiting rooms. The good thing about them is that they’re pretty durable, more water resistant. But they don’t feel as good and nice as real wooden tile floor

In my house I chose a wooden tiled floor for my room and it’s also in the living room, my sister chose stone flooring for her bedroom, and outside my mom installed these vinyl sheets in a darker wood tone, they look pretty cool

  22. D Le on April 17, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Thanks so much for your vid! Did you level the floor to fill out the dips before installation of the vinyl flankS?

  23. Don Johnson on April 17, 2022 at 6:55 pm

Is the a loose lay type of floor?

  24. n0dda on April 17, 2022 at 7:00 pm

What idiot does a product review but then doesn’t provide the name of said product? Do you think all vinyl plank flooring is the same? Well it’s not so thanks for wasting everyone time on your mystery flooring….

  25. Rodney Dangerfield on April 17, 2022 at 7:01 pm

Great video and thanks for sharing your experience, Mitch!

Question: Since vinyl plank flooring will be installed in my unfinished, 6 ft basement, is the underpad necessary?

Yours truly, Fellow Canuck, Rodney, from Toronto

  26. Straight Whitemale on April 17, 2022 at 7:01 pm

We had a home with linoleum flooring in the kitchen. Our dog lived to hang out in the kitchen all day . Our dog was old and had really gone downhill since we moved to that home. Long story short we ripped up that floor tiled the kitchen. Our dog came back to life big time, such a dramatic change. Ever since then I would never consider fake flooring again. IMO that crap is poison.

    This stuff looks fantastic!

  28. John Moore on April 17, 2022 at 7:02 pm

Have you thought about it being made in China?
Have you thought about your health?
Have you ever heard on not reusing plastic cups or water bottles?
    Remember the Chinese Drywall?
    Time will tell.

  29. MountainPrepper on April 17, 2022 at 7:03 pm

hello, what is the name of the manufacturer and product model? Thanks

  30. John Moore on April 17, 2022 at 7:04 pm

It areas with high humidity it traps moisture underneath.
    It does not channel air.
    It will rot wood subfloor.
One manufacturer requires you waterproof your crawl space.

  31. LZRD84 on April 17, 2022 at 7:04 pm

I love the look of this but worry about how high the plastic fumes are? Is there a way to check?

  32. Patty Fluegel on April 17, 2022 at 7:05 pm

put the chair protectors which look like little rubber boots on the table.

  33. Raymond Chow on April 17, 2022 at 7:05 pm

Nice flooring.I notice the double oven you put in. People had some bad things to say about this product. Did find it hard to use?

  34. Grandma Isback on April 17, 2022 at 7:06 pm

The house we currently life in has these… I was considering putting it into my own house until we lived here… I am cured. It is the worst stuff ever invented, straight cement untreated would be better.

  35. Linda Murphy on April 17, 2022 at 7:08 pm

Our biggest concern is with pets. Dogs precisely. Do dogs claws cause deeper scratches than those chairs would. We have a dog and granddogs and they play and leave scratches in our wood. We are worried about refinishing the wood because our small dog will be breathing the chemicals for a long time and endangering his health.

Awesome description/walkthrough! Points for the “obsession”/thoroughness 😎 Not a joke, mean it. Thanks!

  37. cemzdril on April 17, 2022 at 7:10 pm

We put this flooring on clean concrete sub floor. One year later vinyl is oozing goo in between tiles then hardening. I have tried everything to clean it up but all it did was peel finish layer off vinyl plank. I have to replace half the flooring. Any idea what is happening? We live in SE USA.

  38. Zaza Krall on April 17, 2022 at 7:10 pm

I have the plank vinyl in sky gray and love it. The only problem I’ve had is from my infrared fireplace. I use it exclusively to heat my mobile home and one of the legs was cracked so the floor underneath it is scorched. But also it was the coldest winter on record. If I was fussy I would be able to lift that plank and replace. It’s a great product for mobiles because the humidity is high and also being on the west coast is higher humidity. People ask about shoes when they come over and I just say leave them on.

  39. george nemeth on April 17, 2022 at 7:10 pm

What is the brand? Great video by the way…

  40. Julie Martell on April 17, 2022 at 7:11 pm

That’s for your video. Does this flooring squeak while walking in it!

  41. Lenda on April 17, 2022 at 7:12 pm

Vinyl plank flooring sux butt. I will NEVER recommend it. Wood look tile.

  42. Michelle Frumento on April 17, 2022 at 7:12 pm

  45. MoonBear on April 17, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Really love the style / color of this floor. I don’t like the price, or the fact it’s a glue down product.. Does anyone have any experience with similar looking products that don’t cost an insane amount?

  46. velocity vox on April 17, 2022 at 7:21 pm

just wondering what brand and colour is this? honestly, this is the best looking vinyl I have seen

  47. Annie Loh on April 17, 2022 at 7:24 pm

May I know brand is it ?

  48. alex lanning on April 17, 2022 at 7:25 pm

it sounds like an honest appraisal

  49. Lynda Downing on April 17, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Beware! Vinyl floor planks are sensitive to UV. I live in Cape Town, South Africa where UV is obviously more of an issue than in Canada. We have just bought a cottage with vinyl plank floors throughout. Over a few years the planks in front of large picture windows have faded from French Oak to a hideous pale blue colour. We are in the expensive process of replacing the vinyl planked floor with scree.

Bathroom sharing the same floor material? It’s a bathroom dude.. poo all over the house. Imagine invisible mushrooms everywhere
