WE SHIPPED OUR VAN TO HAWAII! | Claire P. Thomas

I can’t believe it has already been 9 months since we moved into the van. Penny has taken Jared and me to some incredible places all over the west. we had no intention of taking Penny THIS far west, though, until the idea of it popped into my mind. It was cold and rainy in Oregon and I was dreaming of warm & sandy days. “What if we ship Penny to Hawaii?!,” I thought one random morning. The islands were finally opening back up again to tourism & we were already on the west coast, so the timing felt perfect.

COVID restrictions have definitely made living in a van more complicated than it already is. Most of the places we’ve been wanting to visit and experience are still locked down. So, we figured we would wait it out in a tropical paradise, then come back to the mainland to travel though the rest of the States. Doesn’t sound too bad, huh? 😉 It was one of the easiest decisions we have ever made.

Within a few weeks we were driving down to San Francisco to ship Penny off. We decided that Maui was the best Island for us. We have friends there & it offers a little bit of everything we were looking for. We still plan to island hop and leave our footprints on each Hawaiian Island, but we’ll spend most of our time in Maui.

We found an awesome shipping company that allowed us to ship the van with all of our things inside. We were originally told that we would have to remove everything, which would have been a hassle! If you are interested, the company is called, “Coastal Auto Shipping.” It was more expensive, but 100% worth it for us because we didn’t have to buy a storage unit or pay to ship our belongings to Maui.

Once we shipped the van, we stayed in San Fran for a couple nights before jet setting to Maui. For the following couple of weeks we stayed in a super cute Airbnb. We loved it! This is the exact one: https://abnb.me/ciDsLFH2Dfb

Every place I’ve been has been absolutely incredible & has taught me something new. But, over the past 9 months I’ve never had a problem continuing my journey & moving onto the next new destination…. until now.

There’s something so extraordinarily unexplainable about this place.

The people, the culture & the way that nobody feels like a stranger here. I am in love with the energy, the music, the fresh food & the natural beauty that makes me second guess if this is real life or a dream.

Maui has 100% stolen my heart. I’m not used to this feeling of complete contentment with where I am at. It’s an incredible feeling & I never want it to go away. We’re not going away. Not anytime soon. We don’t make plans anymore, we come and go when the time feels right. It’s feeling like we will be here longer than we expected.

Thank you for tuning into our adventures. We can’t wait to share more of Maui with you soon! 🌺

Maui "No Ka’ Oi", I lived there for over 10 years, be extra careful where you leave your van while exploring, by a club for the steering wheel and be mindful where you park as your van will get broken into, sad but true, Charlies in Paia for breakfast, order the Cajun Ono Benedict or the pancakes. Take the van up to Poli Poli you can boondock there and watch amazing sunsets and don’t miss hiking the Waihee Ridge Trail also another possible boondocking site

Hi Claire, I’m wondering ….. do you need to change your plates or anything like that or are your Oregon plates okay for a certain amount of time in Hawaii?
