why i hated VAN GOGH: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

Your favorite salt bag’s opinion on VAN GOGH: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE. A cash grab exhibit that had some of the worst graphics produced in the 21st century. I went to it so you don’t have to.

This NYT article is what made me want to go to a Van Gogh Exhibit in the first place. It’s a fantastic piece about how Van Gogh’s sister-in-law basically made that bitch famous: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/14/magazine/jo-van-gogh-bonger.html

Vincent went through the ringer in life, and only sold one painting, despite the many works he gave the world. I’m certainly glad vincent van gogh is getting the attention he deserves. I’m sad to see that this exhibit was nothing more but cheap exploitation of one of the most prolific artists to grace this world

Hmmm 🧐 I just got home from the one here in Indio, Ca. , called Beyond VanGogh the Immersive Experience. It was well presented and the animations were well executed. I actually had tears rolling down my cheeks and chills running up and down my body throughout. It was powerful to feel “immersed” in the paintings I’d admired previously at an exhibit years ago in LA. The intro was really well done as well and set up the immersive part well. The gift shop was well attended to. I picked up some refer magnets then found some different ones and by the time I walked back to put them back, they had already replaced them with new ones. So if anyone reading this lives in the Palm Springs area, I recommend 👍🏼☺️

Ha,the one she went to is the same one in the city where I live, right now. Lol

Remember, there are at least 5 different companies running very similar exhibits with similar titles:

    – Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience
    – Imagine Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition
    – Immersive Van Gogh
    – Van Gogh Alive
    – Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience (the one featured in this video)

Make sure to do your research properly and see which one you’re looking at (learn from my mistakes)!! Most people who had better experiences went to a different exhibit than the one featured in this video. My opinions here are only about the one called "Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience" run by Exhibition Hub & Fever.

I went to the one in Hollywood California at about $55 per person plus $20 parking fee. While I enjoyed the presentation a little more than you,it was underwhelming that that’s all it was, sitting in a room watching some projections. Not what I think of when I hear the words immersive experience. It was definitely not worth the price I paid for 4 people. It needed more, more exhibits, more rooms. More immersing.

  6. SEG on October 24, 2022 at 7:34 am

I got the scammy part and I totally agree.

It would be nice if quiet, dead and boring museums would ALL get the message that we want something more than viewing art as dull and instead liven things up with full multi-experiences – with immersive being just one aspect.

Their lives were varied and alive why shouldn’t viewing their work be ALIVE TOO and not mausoleums of worship .

    I’m so sorry 🙏🏾😕

  8. Totally Asmr on October 24, 2022 at 7:35 am

same as london, just came back from the one in algate and it was literally the same, boring and the visuals were cheap

  9. Cc F on October 24, 2022 at 7:36 am

I felt the same in London. If it had been a free exhibit, I’d have skipped through all the art re-prints “gallery” section happily learning a few new things about Van Gough’s story along the way.
I’d look into the ‘drawing room’ smile for any kids there who could spend some time with crayons, which I did.
And I’d sit back like I did in the “immersive experience” and smile at someof the clever prettiness on display around me.
Leave and say, that was alright.
Wasn’t worth the money at all at all.
They did have another virtual reality experience which you paid extra for once inside lol .. this , was worth paying for. Absolutely brilliant. A whole experience of just that would have been great.

  10. PurpleGlobeThistle on October 24, 2022 at 7:36 am

Wow. That looks awful. When I got the flyer I was pretty convinced it would be lame so I didn’t go. Im so glad I was able to confirm I made the right decision.

Mindset is everything…….to those with an open heart and mind, this is a beautiful, evocative and memorable experience…..

  12. Time Tellers Union on October 24, 2022 at 7:42 am

Uhhhh, did they turn Van Gogh into a Skyrim theme and a solitaire end game screen?

The Tower Theater is accessible by public transportation. And no, I do not wish to hear another review by you. It seems you do not care to see beyond some personal expectation and everything will be demoted immediately if it doesn’t live up to the "Oz" you’ve created in your mind. So, no. No, thank you.
"Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well." – Vincent Van Gogh, painter of sunflowers.

I just went to Beyond Van Gogh in Palm Springs and agree 100% that it is a total scam! It was like watching a poorly made PowerPoint in a hot barn with poor elderly forks looking desperately for a place to sit down. Horrible!

  19. Maya M on October 24, 2022 at 7:46 am

I’m sorry you didn’t like it, I really enjoyed it, and had an emotional connection to his artwork there.

  20. Cowarros on October 24, 2022 at 7:48 am

I went to this one in Atlanta on a date. It is a huge rip off.

  21. Korey Pickering on October 24, 2022 at 7:52 am

thank God I’m not the only one who thought this. $120 for two tickets to a 36 minute projector show🥴

  22. J S on October 24, 2022 at 7:52 am

Took my wife to this exhibit in Philadelphia,I could not agree with you more.

  23. Ahturos on October 24, 2022 at 7:53 am

That´s to bad. I went with "Van Gogh Alive". It had less stuff, one room with the bed room set up and then some paintings and text before entering the big hall with the screens all over the room playing with the classical music for an hour. I liked that becuse you would have to turn around to catch everything. It was like 5 diffrent screens you needed to keep an eye on, the quallity was good I felt with small animation, not to the extreme you showed like guy crying in chair I did´t see that one there. There were the night sky the flower fields. Stormy clouds, beautiful. Like entering Disneys Fantasia. It was 22$ so expensive but still worth it with friends.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It was a great experience in Dallas.

  25. Mr. Simon on October 24, 2022 at 7:57 am

I had a great experience in fresno ca. My wife and daughter loved it also.

  26. christopherxiong on October 24, 2022 at 7:57 am

I went to the one in my town over the weekend and I too felt cheated.

  27. Dirty Saint on October 24, 2022 at 7:58 am

Lmao you just saved me from spending a day’s work of hard labor on this. The ghost of Van Gogh is in Putin’s ear right now saying “do it. nuke the exhibits!”

  28. JustD JustD on October 24, 2022 at 7:59 am

i agree… as soon as i walked in i realized it was a cash grab …. it was terrible…

I’ve been to the Van Gogh Immersive Experience twice and I loved it! I had a great time! It felt very therapeutic to me. In the videos you showed form your experience, the show looks very different than the one I saw. They must’ve made some vast improvements.

  30. DMTdreamz on October 24, 2022 at 8:00 am

  32. Tasnima on October 24, 2022 at 8:02 am

I bought the tickets for the London experience during covid and finally got round to going this year in January. The location was in a good area and graphics for the immersive part looked good to me. I loved the instrumental that would play over it (Sunrise by Christopher Slaski) and would have loved to take my mum. I really enjoyed it and found it so therapeutic. I did add another poster to my collection from the gift shop and thought the prices weren’t too bad.

  33. legerdomain on October 24, 2022 at 8:03 am

you need to do some acid to fully experience it

  34. Zoë on October 24, 2022 at 8:04 am

This is such a shame & it makes me angry when companies do this. 🙁
Melbourne, Australia has a space called The Lume which is currently showing a Van Gogh exhibition & it is spectacular. The main space is huge, you can even go up onto a large balcony area to watch the film – there is even a cafe in the projection space, part of which is designed to look like The Terrace.
Hopefully you have much better experiences with these types of exhibitions in the future!

  35. Donald Dennis on October 24, 2022 at 8:08 am

The Beyond Van Gogh exhibit was pretty bad. I bet one of the traveling exhibitions was pretty good, but apparently these two weren’t.

  36. Grey Palmer on October 24, 2022 at 8:09 am

You definitely had some really bum luck, the one in Nashville was incredible. Some aspects were certainly similarish, but it was far more well done. I suspect they may have learned from their mistakes in the past months, such as with the "exhibit" you visited, because it was mmmaaajjjooorrrlllyyy late opening and it was definitely a considerably better quality well thought out experience. If I remember correctly our tickets were also a bit more expensive, and was called the Immmersive Van Gogh Experience ran by Lighthouse Immersive and Visioni Eccentriche. I’m sorry yours was so lackluster 😭

    van gogh alive was great

  38. Rannd on October 24, 2022 at 8:12 am

Yup… same experience in Cincinnati… and I completely agree with all your points. The shocking thing is people are actually giving this five start reviews….or they faked them.

  39. Leonardo Luc on October 24, 2022 at 8:12 am

OMG stop it please, to much negativity, next time Use common sense and enjoy. Its not the real thing for that you have to travel to Amsterdam, get it.

  40. ramon Lopez on October 24, 2022 at 8:15 am

Tf does she want for $35 bucks? Someone to wipe her ass and bring van gogh from the dead? She sounds spoiled.

  41. Ali-G oregano on October 24, 2022 at 8:15 am

It seems this company put this experience on here in Dublin Ireland which I went to and to be honest I loved it. I thought it was brilliant. I do agree about the finding the cheapest venue thing but I loved the experience.

  42. Gwenluvsmusic on October 24, 2022 at 8:16 am

Wow! I think I’ve just seen this one in Dublin, but they seem to have fixed the issues you’ve addressed! It is actually one of 2 different Van Gogh experiences we have in Dublin this summer, and I’ve loved them both. I think if I turned up and it was how it was for you I’d have demanded a refund!

  43. Osama Sayed on October 24, 2022 at 8:18 am

You missed the best part of the entire exhibit – the VR experience which was honestly one of the most breathtaking moments of my life

  44. Qixin Zhang on October 24, 2022 at 8:18 am

and think about how van gogh’s life was like, how his life ended, and how people making money utilized him now

  45. Susan Carroll on October 24, 2022 at 8:18 am

Wow. This is not the same show I saw at all. This video looks very different from what I saw. I loved, loved, loved it! It was fantastic. I’m sorry your show was not good. I wonder why it was so different…

  46. Matthew Gray on October 24, 2022 at 8:19 am

    u r cringe

  47. Seon Kim on October 24, 2022 at 8:20 am

I think the one that I went was slightly different, but my reaction was more or less the same. They put all the paintings by Gogh all over the wall in a very fancy manner, but I could not observe any meaningful perspective about him and his art. It was more like "Set up some badass screens with badass beam projectors, Ctrl+A, select all Gogh paintings, beautiful transition effects, F5, boom, $$$$$"

  48. Sona TV Entertainment on October 24, 2022 at 8:22 am

You must be joking right ? You should have not gotten VIP, always get the tickets 🎟and then pay $5 for VR experience. That’s how money wise people do it. Make your dollar go far. Skip the VIP. Anything VIP is a scam. Stick with the basic always.

  49. Haskell Whittington on October 24, 2022 at 8:22 am

We visited the exibit in New Orleans. For us it was incredible start to finish with only one exception…….it was freezing. We had trouble taking our time because we were shivering. All of the other aspescts of this exibit were so well done. Ty for sharing your perspective on your visit, we will never forget the day we went. It was really special for us.

The Lume at the Indianapolis Museum of Art was wonderful.. sorry for your disappointing experience.. it did look tacky.
